in Koh Samui, and in Koh Pangan

KOH SAMUI island is located at the Southeastern coast of Thailand. To get there, we took a 4 hr train ride from Penang, Malaysia (but we missed the stop adding another 6 hrs. of our travelling time: too much tong-its!!) at the cost of $ 20 cdn. to Surat Thani where you can get to the port via bus (1 1/2 hr ride) and another 1hr ferry ride to Koh Samui. This island is very popular among the Europeans and Australians. Many lives there for years and the others stays there for months (do I have to mentions the rest who comes back every year??). It was a great place to be in because this island has a lot of things to offer (after all, they specializes in sex trade!!). Imagine the Cabarets' Shows featuring transexuals that's got the body to die for (truly!!). Nightlife is obviously great, since clubs are mostly owned by Europeans. Two most popular clubs are "Reggae Club" and "Green Mango" which plays all kinds of music from mainstream to acid jazz etc. . Drinks are about $4-5 cdn. but you have an option of buying a bottle of whisky for $6 cdn. a bottle (if you don't mind the awful taste of their alcohol). On days you can enjoy the beach and the watersports available (and believe me, there are LOTS). There are several nearby islands you can go to such as KOH PANGAN and KOH TAO.

If you're an asian female traveller (particularly if you have a farang male with you) just like moi!. Don't be offended if people speaks to you in Thai at all times and believes you to be a "hooker/girlie bar server" because that's the norm in this area. I must have explained myself at least 20 times in a day, that I'm not Thai. Their price is particularly high compare to the other places in Thailand due to the tourists that flocks there- but compare to its counterparts, it's still is a good deal.

During the day, we usually enjoy the beach riding the waves with body board snorkelling or jet skiing. Koh Tao is the place if you're into snorkelling. They offer a boat tour to Koh Tao for approximately $50.00 roundtrip and includes lunch but we didn't go that far. Instead, we went and toured the island via scooter reaching NaMuang Waterfalls 2, passed by Golden Buddha, etc. Now, getting there is another problem because almost all the signs are in Thai. So don't forget to bring your bible!!!! (Lonely Planet: Southeast Asia). Here's some photos of the "Black Moon Party" we went to in Koh Samui

BLACK MOON PARTY: Secret Beach: Koh Pangan island

Koh Pangan is the place where the "Full Moon Party" is held. It happens every full moon of each month. Popular among the backpackers, the party goes on until 7 am (and *%$#% are available if you're lucky, mostly brought by travellers themselves for the sole purpose of trafficking during the party...but be careful!). When we went there, the beach post party was in awful condition. Broken beer bottles are scatterd on the shore. Bonfire leftovers and rubbish are left along the far end of the beach where it was held so do make sure you have flip flops when you go there!!. In fairness, there is an area where you can swim and snorkel without being bothered by beer bottles. The reef is quite small but much better that in Koh Samui. If you're looking for some nightlife though, you won't find it here.. unless there's a "full moon".

The last two places we went to was BANGKOK and PATTAYA. In Bangkok, we developed a throat infection (perhaps from the pollution). The traffic is so bad that it reminds me of Manila!. Anyway, we went to the red light district in "Phat Pong" and you will not believe what I saw. But I will not describe it here, i'd rather tell you that it's the best place to go shopping. Brand name shirts and other items are so cheap... around $13.00 cdn. What more can you ask for??.
In Pattaya, we went there the day before the election, therefore, all the bars doesn't serve any alcohol that night. No shows whatsoever. All I noticed are the enormous amount of old men with young thai women around... or gay men with lady boys. The most recent pics I want to post were of my California adventure this year 2007. Here are some of the pics I took this year with friends and family who are based here West Coast.
