    Your face shows up stress much more than your body. Fight the ageing process by applying moisturiser at least once a day. Spots, blemishes and pigmentation, in the summer specially, can be taken care of with a foundation one shade lighter than your normal skin tone.

    Don't dismiss face masks as time consuming, or messy. While your face mask is working on the skin, put your feet up and relax. Beat the heat by placing cotton wool dipped in witch hazel on your eye-lids. This will en- -hance the effectiveness of your mask.


    Summer is the time your skin is exposed to the sun, causing tanning and sometimes burning of skin. To prevent a burn, a sun-screen product which has para-aminobenzoic acid, or simply, 'paba', or substances called benzophenones, should be applied. You could also try cinnamon oil, which is an excellent sun-screen.
    The juice of a peeled cucumber mixed with half teaspoon of glycerine and half teaspoon of rosewater, chilled.

    There are people who cannot tolerate any exposure to the sun. They need sun-block. The best sun-block is zinc oxide paste or calamine lotion. Most chemists stock it.
    The best way to remove a tan is to dip a piece of muslin in sour buttermilk and cover your face, neck, back and shoulders with it for 15 minutes and then wash off with water. The next day use a mask made of gramflour, juice of half a lemon, a pinch of turmeric and enough milk to make a paste.

    If dry skin is a regular problem, you are advised to cleanse it with an oily cleansing milk and moisturise it often. To make your own moisturising cream, soak a few almonds, and a couple of peanuts in enough milk to cover it, overnight. Next day grind to a paste, mix in a tablespoon of fresh cream, one tblespoon of cucumber juice, a few drops of honey and rose water. Mix well and massage it on a face neck in circular, upward movements. You could use this even on your arms and legs. Leave is on for an hour and then rinse off.

    Skin disorders are sometimes due to stress and worry. Acne is result of overproduction of oil caused by hormonal unbalance or by hereditary factors, fatty foods, alcohol and hot beverages.

    When the acne is mild, the best thing to do is to keep the skin clean. Creams or lotions will only worsen the condition. When the hormones of puberty settle down, the acne will most likely subside. Exposure to mild morning sunlight for half an hour a day, is an important factor. Besides, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and an abundance of food rich in calcium should be eaten. Carrot masks help greatly in combating acne as they are rich in vitamins. Apply carrot gratings on the face and neck (as a mask). Leave on for 20 minutes and then wash off to see the wonders. Do this twice a day.

    Relax a good night's sleep helps. Exercises can dissipate tension. Yoga exercises are good for achieving body control, relaxation and harmony. So do breathing and stretching exercises. Sleep recharges one's batteries both mentally and physically. During sleep, the skin becomes flushed with blood which is a beauty treatment in itself. Another acne aid is lecithin which emulsifies and breaks down fatty globules in the blood. The dose is two tablespoons of granulated lecithin disolved in fruit juice, or six capsules---you could yeast and lecithin. Consult your doctor in any case. All vitamin B-rich food is great for the skin. Brewers yeast tablets regulate the oily secretion of the skin vitamin C (though not an overdose) also helps.

    Mask For Face And Body Stress : Mint leaves and almond paste mixed in water apply over the entire body. Make henna paste mixed in warm tea, apply this to scalp leave till body and hair pack dries up. Rinse them off with warm water. Good for Nerves too.

    WRINKLES

    Fine lines and the aging changes of roughness, pigmentation, sallowness, laxity and dryness on the face or eyelids are the result of many factors. Wrinkles usually take 30 years to develop and are slow to remove. Wrinkles can add year to your age. A good wrinkle chaser is the white of an egg, beaten with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply on the face and neck. Allow it to dry, then rinse off. Mash a banana and apply the paste on the face. Wash off after half an hour. Your skin will be soft, smooth and supple. Do this everyday.

    • Avoid sun exposure on your face and arms, wear sunglasses, hat and sunscreen. Approximately 90% of all changes in skin are due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, pollutants, ozone depletion are a few external and internal insults that causes the skin to age.

    ANTI-WRINKLE LOTION

    Try this anti-wrinkle oil to banish those crow�s feet and laugh lines. Mix aloe vera gel and extra virgin olive oil (increase the ratio of olive oil if your skin is drier) and apply on affected areas. While the aloe vera will control the skin from the damages caused by the sun and rejuvenate it, olive oil adds moisture and elasticity to it. If you have very oily skin, apply just the aloe vera gel.

    FRECKLES

    Freckles are tiny accumulations of unevenly distributed pigment spots. They usually disappear as one grows older, but in some cases, the nuisance remains. Exposure to sunlight deepens the colour of these spots, so arm yourself with sunscreen creams or lotions. Apply a pack of sour curds at night and rinse in the morning. Then apply a film of either olive, coconut or sesame oil on the face.
    Other remedy for freckles is : Pat on buttermilk and leave on to dry or apply red radish daily . Leave on for 1 hour.


    LARGE PORES

    The basic rule of thumb to remember in the case of large pores is that astringents help to tighten and close them.

    Buttermilk has astringent qualities. Apply it on your face and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing it off with cool water. Similarly, egg whites also serve to tighten the skin. Beaten egg whites should be applied on the face with cotton wool and left on for 15 minutes.

    Tomato juice contains Vitamin C and potassium and works wonders on large pores. It can be used alone or mixed with curd or Multani mitti (fullers earth) to make an excellent pore-closing paste. Lettuce juice is another alternative.

    Pastes made of cornmeal or oatmeal have also been found to work well in closing pores. The paste should be made with hot water and applied for about half an hour. Then wash it off with cool water.

    Powdered alum mixed with hot water or with rose-water and egg white is also good for tightening and closing large pores.

    POX MARKS
    Can be reduced by coconut juice rubbed on the body. Also solution of cucumber juice, potato juice and black tea. Refrigerate for one day and dab on black spots leave overnight and keep solution ready for three days.


    DEEP DARK RINGS
    Round the eyes, make almond paste with milk and a few drops lemon juice. Leave on for 20 mins.


    EYES PUFFINESS
    Bathing the eyes in warm water, to which a little salt has been added, can really brighten them up. It helps to relieve puffiness too. Altrnatively, dip cotton wool pads in a salt water solution of on tablespoon salt and a pint of warm water. Use them as eye pads.
    For under eye puffiness, grate a well-washed raw potato and soak two cotton-wool pads in the potato juice. Leave to cool in fridge and then place on eye lids and undereye area. Leave on for 25 minuts and splash with cold water.


    SCARS AND PIMPLES
    Equal quantities lime juice, honey, glycerine apply everyday on the scars for 15 mins. Wash off--- or -- 1 tsp.cucumber juice, 2 drops lemon, pinch of turmeric powder.

    PIMPLES

    In gram flour (chickpea flour) add yohurt and make a paste and apply on the face, before it dries completely rub that . Do this for every two days.
    Take a ripe papaya, mash it and then apply on pimples.
    Warm honey and mix gram flour and apply this paste o face. Wash with warm water after it dries.
    Grind mint leaves and apply on pimlpes and ah after 5 minutes.
    Avoid taking oily food, sweets, fries, and potatoes. Take fresh fruits and vegetables with your diet.
    Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
    Don't pinch pimples. It will make scar.
    Use medicated soap which is recommended by your doctor.


    MELASMA

    More commonly known as "the mask of pregnancy," is brown pigmentation on the cheeks, around the eyes and sometimes on the forehead or above the lip. Asian skin is particularly susceptible. Other activities or conditions that contribute to the condition include waxing of facial hair(especially above the lip), allergic reaction to skincare products. Above all, sun exposure can worsen the dark pigmentation. So the best way to avoid or minimize melasma is to wear sunscreen (that blocks both UVA and UVB rays) all day, everyday, year round.


    MOSAIC SKIN :

    This type is a combination of both dry and oily skins. There is a greasy centre panel of the nose, forehead and chin region. The dry part is the cheeks, mouth and the area around the eyes. On the oily areas, apply egg white mixed with a few drops of lemon juice and on dry areas, apply a little gelatine mixed with tap water and blot dry. Do this once daily to get results.


    VITILIGO SKIN CONDITION

    Is charactrised by loss of skin pigmentation which manifests itself in small white marks on some areas of the body. Other areas may become dark. Increase intake of vitamin B through liver, cheese and meats. Take six tablets of brewers yeast daily. Tiny skin protruberances on the neck can prove very embrassing. Rub them daily with castor oil. Or a doctor can clip them off, painlessly.

    SKIN TEST
    Wash your face with soap and water before going to bed do not use any night cream or moisturiser. In the morning check the skin : Does it feel tight with light pink areas ? If so it's a dry, sensitive skin. It seems dry with no traces of suppleness it is an dry skin and if the skin is supple and smooth then an absolutely normal skin.
