MILLENNIUM BEAUTY
GIVE BEAUTY A **HAND**
Hands, in a woman, are the worst sufferers. Washing, cooking, sewing, cleaning-----household chores result in roughness in the part of your body that is considered the very essence of your feminity. So even if your daily schedule is packed, it is worth pampering hands. A weekly manicure, either by yourself, or at a beauty parlour, is a must.
Hands have a language of their own : They welcome, reassure, caress and flatter. But many a beautiful face has been betrayed by a pair of neglected, uncared for hands. With cared-for hands you're more than just a beautiful face.
- Never open letters or packages with your fingernails to avoid breaks.
Be gentle with your nails. Don't dig at them or scrub them harshly with a brush. This will lift the nail plate away from flesh.
To pick up small objects use the pads of your fingers and not your finger nails.
While working in the kitchen or garden, wear gloves to protect your nails.
Poor quality nails look best if kept short.
Don't cut cuticles, it will lead to infection.
Never use nail clippers to cut your nails and never file them with a metal file.
Always remember to file nails towards the centre and never back and forth movement.
Massage your hands and nails regularly with good, nourishing creams----working from finger tips to palm.

HERE ARE TIPS ON HOME PERFORMED MANICURE :
- Remove old polish with polish remover and file nails. File gently from outer corners inwards till they are oval in shape.
- Soak nails in warm soap water. Liquid soap for hands is available in the market. The soaking helps in softening the nails.
- Dry hands and apply cuticle cream around cuticles. Then push cuticles back gently with orange stick covered with cotten wool.
- Massage hands with a good hand and body lotion or half a teaspoon of granulated sugar, mixed with a few drops of baby oil----working from finger tips to palm.
- Remove grime-----which has softened and loossened---from under nails with the pointed end of an uncovered orange stick.
- Apply base coat containing nail strengthener to clean, dry nails. Apply polish now.If it is peachy pearly colour ( recommended for summer ), use two coats---but let the first coat dry before you apply the brush the a second time. The polish should be applied carefully, from base of nail to tip in a sweep. The coat should be applied lightly, in three strokes. One down centre and the other two on each side.
- You needn't manicure till next week now. But the re-filing of nails and the re-application of polish is acceptable. A note of caution : frequent removal of nail polish can lead to brittle nails.
- Also, leave your nails without polish occasionally, as perenially polished nails can develop permanent stains because of chemical content of the polish.
- A massage with lotion or cream should be indulged in everyday before going to bed to keep hands soft. Home made hand cream can be made out of mixing rosewater and glycerine.
- To strengthen nails soak them in cider 'vinegar.

WAX WORKS WONDERS
This lavish treatment softens dry, rough hands and eases pain for arthritis sufferers. It's available at beauty salons, but is equally easy and inexpensive to do at home too .....
- Gently heat 500g of paraffin wax in an old saucepan until it turns to liquid. First test that it's not too hot---it should be only blood temperature. Use a pastry brush to paint the wax onto your hands, holding them over a piece of newspaper to catch the drips
- Repeat the painting stage until yoou have applied a thick layer of warm wax to both hands. It dries quickly, then sets and becomes white in colour.
- Leave the wax on for about 15 minutes--or longer if you have time. Wrapping your hands in plastic bags makes the treatment even more effective because it helps to trap warmth and moisture. To remove, simply peel off the wax slowly with your other hand. Keep it and use again another time.
- The result will be well worth the effort---beautifully silky soft, clean hands. Now look after them by wearing rubber gloves for housework, and by using hand cream regularly.
