ILLINOIS SPOONPLUGGER
March, 2000
UPCOMING MEETING: The
next meeting of the Illinois Spoonpluggers will be conducted at
the LaGrange YMCA location on March 9th, beginning at 7:30pm. Our
first order of business will be to disperse spoonplug orders
placed by members last month. If you are included in this group
and are unable to attend the meeting, please notify Leonard
beforehand.
MEETING IN REVIEW:
February's meeting was conducted at the Elk Grove Township Hall,
where a respectable turnout of 16 members was gathered. Dave
whetted the appetites of fellow spoonpluggers with his display of
two walleye mounts in the 8lb. &12lb class. Taxidermy is a
hobby of Dave's and his quality of workmanship spoke for
itself
. Great job!
It was decided that future newsletters would be sent
via e-mail to those members who have Internet connections. All
other members will receive theirs through the mail. If you have an
Internet connection and would rather receive a hard copy as in the
past, notify George or Jim.
Our topic of discussion was centered on structure
situations existing in a lake in central Illinois. With the aid of
maps supplied by Jim, specific reference was made to the "dam
area" as well as structure situations existing in the creek
vicinity. Jim and Joe have fished one or both of these areas and
provided insightful commentary into why certain spots were proven
producers. "The Home Study Course, namely Mapping &
Interpretation-Vol. 2," Figure 72 was also used effectively to
supplement this discussion, especially where "interpretation" was
concerned. It was concluded that "due diligence" on the
fisherman's part would greatly facilitate locating potentially
productive structures on "Lake Types" of this nature.
Topic of Discussion for this
month: Preparation for the Upcoming Season; preparing
equipment, approaching spring fishing conditions, mental aspects,
goal setting etc.
FYI: When selecting "lake types"
conducive to early spring movements, there is no question that
some lakes will be "hot" and others will not, and that maximum
fishing success will be enhanced by the correct choice of fishing
waters. Primary lake prospects would contain such characteristics
as shallower basins, darker waters, smaller sizes, discharges, and
currents.
NOTES: It is the
intention of the Illinois Spoonpluggers to feature as many club
members as possible in our newsletter. This can be accomplished by
contributions of a fishing photo along with a structure map
illustrating a fishing situation encountered during your "on the
water" experiences. Please hand such items over to Wally or Jim
for placement in future newsletters.
Since the February
meeting it has been learned that we will no longer be able to use
the facilities in Elk Grove. They do not have anyone to open and
close the building for us. We are currently looking for a meeting
location on the North side. Does anyone have a
suggestion?
