What happened at the WTO is nothing new. Although it is shocking to learn that so much brutality and suppression of freedom could be brought to bear against the American People.
The fact is that this is only the beginning of the clamp down on our freedoms. And history does tend to repeat itself. And well so do i but... anyway what happened at the WTO is a mirror-image of what happened at the APEC summit in 1997, Vancouver, Canada.
The summit was for the establishment of "free-er trade among member nations" and set out guidelines for nations envolved as to how they should conduct their own trade affairs etc. Just like the WTO conference. The information presented on the APEC conference is taken from the (National Magazine, CBC television, 98/09/01.)
Student protestors from the B.C. university as well as others opposed to the APEC conference, were peacefully protesting, or trying to peacefully protest, against, primarily, the human rights violations in Indonesia and China. The suggestion being that we should not trade with morally bankrupt nations like these. At one point the Tibetan flag was flying high as a protest against Chinese occupation of Tibet. That flag, as well as freedom itself, fell to the ground during this conference.
APEC protestors chant "Don't you want to know who stole your paycheck? Check the wallets of the guys at APEC!"
