Reasons Why Someone Might Be Opposed To the W.T.O.

#1. The WTO is an unelected  body, which meets in secret and yet whose policies affect all aspects of our society.

#2. The WTO rules on whether our domestic laws, (those made by democratically elected officials) are barriers to trade.

#3. The WTO refuses to address the impact of free trade on labour rights.

#4. The WTO ruled that it is illegal not to trade with governments simply because they are ruthless dictatorships or utilize child labour.

#5. The WTO is dangerous to the environment as environmental concerns become "barriers to trade".

#6. The WTO supports big business at the expense of people. Ie. The South African government was threatened with a WTO challenge over proposed national health laws that encouraged the use of generic drugs.

#7. The WTO rules that national  policies aimed at rewarding companies who use domestic materials , hire local residents or are environmental friendly essentially illegal.

#8. The WTO undermines National sovereignty through its supranational court system that can sanction countries economically for failure to comply with its rulings.
