The attacks on protestors were completely unfounded. Some protestors were beaten with billy clubs, others lost their front teeth to rubber bullets, but all were abused in the name of GLOBAL trade and GLOBAL progress.
(The following information is taken from the Globe and Mail Newspaper, Dec.3, 1999.) Some 400 people were arrested on wednesday for refusing to move out of specified "no protest" zones.
Teamster business agent Hobe Williams, happened to see his mother on a passing bus. He states, "I turned to wave. Suddenly I was pepper-sprayed. Right in the face. No warning. No provocation. Nothing. We were just marching down the street to a church."
Kaela Economos showed the press polaroids of a badly bruised nose and bleeding mouth. She said that they were, "souveneirs" of 3 police officers who grabbed her from behind as she talked to a friend , smashing her face into the sidewalk. She stated, "My two front teeth are almost horizontal. I can't protest today. I have to see my dentist." |
