Welcome! This web page has been designed to showcase pictures that I have taken as part of an assignment for one of my teaching credential classes. These pictures are of my family and friends modeling "exercises" that are believed to enhance learning ability. These exercises are based on many principles of neuroscience, and are called "brain compatible". The idea is to take advantage of the way our brain actually works and the way real people actually learn. These are some of the "brain-based" activities that my family and friends have been trying! NOTE: Reference textbook: Brain Compatible Strategies by Eric Jensen (1997)
|
Principles of brain compatible learning: -Absence of threat -Respecting uniqueness of learners -Engagement of emotions -Understand the brain's attention span -Active, relevant choice-driven learning -Complex, real-life learning -Eating proper foods -Specific, immediate feedback -Using patterns in learning -Engagement of meaning
Each page tells you: What - The name of the activity Why - Description of the activity and what its purpose is How - How to do the activity --> Plus a few notes on my experience with the activity
Teachers often utilize principles of neuroscience without even realizing it! Any activity that stimulaties neural growth is also contributing to learning! The following pictures are all examples taken from Eric Jensen's book, "Brain Compatible Strategies". I had fun asking family and friends to participate in these activities. I hope you do, too...
Benefits of Brain Compatible Strategies: -Skyrocket memory -Improve intrinsic motivation -Help create meaning -Build lifelong learners -Instill key learning skills -Boost attention levels -Build self-esteem
