Helping you achieve God's goals for your life
Community Chaplains or "Life Coaches" are people whom God has anointed with the gifts of an evangelist and a pastor as a minimum, and are able to pray with faith for the needs of people. They have a special concern for all people living in the geographical area in which the local Christian community is based. Their role and function is especially significant in the early years of forming of a new Christian Community in an area.
Community Chaplains are available to provide you with a listening ear, care & concern, prayer, and to help connect you with other services appropriate to your needs.
Community Chaplains have a special focus to ensure that as many people as possible come to enjoy the abundant life that Jesus Christ came to bring. It is their responsibility and privilege to share with you the Good News of Jesus Christ, to help you study the Bible so that good Christian foundations are laid in your life, and to help integrate you into the rest of the life of the local Christian community.
Ideally, every adult should be able to fulfil the role of a "Chaplain" or "Life Coach", because in essence, it is just having a concern for people around you, and having the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to help them become a follower of Jesus. Our aim is to help all adults grow to this level of maturity.
The primary role of Chaplain therefore involves these five elements:
1. Making contact, and keeping in contact. · Initial visits to people's homes, or other face-to-face contacting process (eg. in market places or city streets using book tables and information stalls or open-air preaching), to introduce themselves and pass on their details; · Delivering or making available regular newsletters ("Chaplain's Notes") to keep in touch. In each edition they include encouraging, helpful, and sometimes challenging thoughts to help you grow in faith and realize more and more what a wonderful God we have. · Continuing to keep in personal contact (eg. through re-visiting) in order to build a good relationship. · Praying for your needs and the needs of the community.
2. Sharing the Good News of Jesus. · Upon "re-visiting", they will seek opportunity to discuss the spiritual dimension of life with you. · They will begin to work through the five key spiritual questions with you:
Do you believe that God exists? Do you understand that God loves you and wants you to experience abundant life as you obey Him? Our world and our lives have been and are in such a mess because we have all sinned against God, and there is coming a Day of Judgement in which we will all have to give an account of our lives before God. Do you understand what sin is and admit that you are a sinner? Do you believe that because God loves you, He sent His own Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross as the penalty for our sins, and rise again so that we could be FREE from sin, death, and hell, and have abundant eternal life as we follow Him? Will you now turn from your sins, turn back to God, ask Him for forgiveness, and begin following Jesus as your king, lord and master?
If you answer 'yes' to all five questions, a prayer of commitment to Jesus can then be prayed. If you are not yet ready to commit to following Jesus, but are still interested in learning more, steps 3 and 4 can be taken first.
3. Foundational Bible teaching. · This involves progressive Bible studies through the following material:
Genesis 1:1 - 12:9 Isaiah 61 Luke 4 An overview of the Six Steps to abundant life
4. Teaching concerning what it really means to be a Christian. · This involves studying the Gospel of Mark in the Bible. In modern terms, you could say it is like reading the "Christian Life Charter".
5. Baptizing new believers and helping them receive the Holy Spirit. If you desire to be a follower of Jesus Christ and be a committed Christian, a chaplain can prepare you for baptism by studying Hebrews 6:1,2 and Romans 6:1-11 with you. Then they will baptize you by full immersion at a suitable place which has enough water! Then they will lay hands on you and pray for you, asking God to fill you with His Holy Spirit (if you have not already received the Holy Spirit by now!). This step may be taken immediately after step 2, but if you do not have a good background knowledge of God and what type of a lifestyle He wants you to live, we recommend taking steps 3 and 4 first. We consider baptism like "signing the contract" - it is good to know the fine print first!
