Chapter 10: The Real Lt. Squall

I don't remember what happened in between, but when I woke up I was lying on a bed. Where am I? What the hell happened? I thought. I then realized where I was. I looked around and found a guy sitting in a chair half asleep. I moved closer to the person and looked into the guy's face. I then realized that it was Lt. Squall.

Squall then woke up and said, "Well, hello. It looks like you finally woke up, Amara."

"Yes, it appears to be. What happened?" I asked.

"We really don't know. When I came into the room that you where in I found you past out on the ground with Shiva's functioning device in your hand," Squall said. Then Squall looked at me with his piercing eyes and said, "Amara, Rinoa told me that you used all three of your GF's at one time. Once she told me that I told Rinoa to keep an eye out on you. Rinoa then told me that she thinks you might be a GF. Is that true?"

I didn't say anything for a while. I just froze I kept wondering how could Squall or Rinoa in that matter find out my secret. I then spoke up, "Yes, but I don't remember anything about me being a GF. I don't know my powers or anything."

"That is alright, Amara. Duo came here to Ether looking for you. I confronted Duo and asked him what he was doing here. Duo the yelled and said where is Amara Masumi. I couldn't believe what he was saying. I didn't even know about you until five weeks ago. I told Duo I didn't know whom he was talking about. Duo said Amara is a GF that is hiding. She needs to be destroyed. I tried to fight Duo, hoping I would defeat him but before I could, he vanished. That is why I called you here, Amara," Squall stated.

"I never asked you why you wanted me here, Squall. What I would like to know is where the hell is Duo?" I barked.

"I can tell that you are very determined, but that can also be a weakness, Amara," Squall said.

"I don't care how determined I am, I just want to end this stupid mission. Squall if you are not going to help that is fine, but one thing I would like to know is why did you run away from the Garden?" I barked again.

"I didn't run away. I told headmaster Cid I would like to catch up with my father. Cid said I could as long as I stay in contact with the Garden, which I did. Another thing you are probably curious about is when you took the SeeD field exam, why weren't you in Timber. That is an easy answer, to see if you were paying attention to where you were going. Any other questions?" Squall replied.

"No, not at the moment at least," I said.

"Alright then. I'm hungry, are you?" Squall asked.

My tummy growled and I knew that had answered Squall's question. I then said, "That answer your question?"

Squall laughed and said, "Yes, it does."

We walked down the hallway all the way to the end and then turned to the right and entered the cafeteria. We sat down at a booth and a robot came over to us and asked, "May I take your order."

I was shocked I jumped a little.

Squall laughed and said, "Yes, I'll have the steak, medium rare, with a glass of water. Amara do you want me to order for you?"

"No, that is quite alright. Um, I think I will have the chicken pot pie, with also a glass of water," I said as the robot left. "I knew Ether had high-tech machinery but I never would guess Ether was this high-tech."

"Many people don't even know about this place and if they do know about it, they normally can never find Ether," Squall stated. "Oh, back to Duo. We put a tracking device on him so we could follow him, but no body here wants to. This is also another reason why I brought you here."

"To look for Duo," I said quickly. "If it is possible, I would like to look for Duo by myself."

"Why?" Squall asked.

"I don't want anyone to get in my way and plus this is my battle not there's," I said as the robot came and dropped off our meals.

"Amara, it doesn't matter how determined you are to fight Duo alone because in the end your friends will come and aid you," Squall said as he cut up his steak.

"Squall, I truly like me friends, but what I am worried about is that maybe I might have to go back to the GF world when this is all over with and I don't want them to find out that I will not be around anymore," I said.

"That is exactly how I was, Amara. When I first became I SeeD I didn't want to get close to anybody, for in fear of losing them. If you show that you are afraid of losing someone, you will become weak and alone. I didn't like being alone and I know you don't either," Squall said.

I looked into Squall's eyes and tried to read what he was thinking, but nothing came. I then searched my soul to see if what Squall said was true and I do believe Squall is correct. I then said, "Squall, has something ever been so obvious for others to see in me, but yet I can't see what they see in me?"

"That happens to everyone and plus you know me, I used to be just like you. Look Amara, I know what you are going through, but if you try hard enough, everything you love but are afraid to lose will never be gone. Everyone you love can or may be lost, but if they become lost you will find them again," Squall said.

I raised an eyebrow at the fact of what Squall said, I couldn't believe he said it. I then said, "Squall, I thought you said you were like me."

"That is correct. I did say I was like you but not anymore. I can thank Rinoa for that. She helped me open up," Squall stated.

I then almost cried because I thought more about what Squall said, but I knew that if I fought Duo and I had to use my GF powers, I would be gone, back into the GF world. I then got up and left the cafeteria and went to the bathroom.

I looked at myself in the mirror. I needed to get some of the burden off my shoulders so I punched the mirror and yelled, "Why, out of the people, why me! Why must I be a GF living in a humans world!"

I let myself cry with the sink water running. I was so upset I just wanted to give up everything. I hated myself for not opening or trusting others, but the final battle will soon begin. I just wanted to live a normal life, but I know what I must do. I have to face Duo, but maybe not by myself. I can't defeat Duo by myself I know I can't, but if I have the help like Squall said, then maybe, just maybe we could win.

I came out of the bathroom and went back to the cafeteria. I looked around but nobody was in sight. I then looked behind the counter and saw the robot, broken. What the hell happened I thought?

I ran throughout the building looking for someone, anyone. I then ran up to the roof and saw that there was a fight going on in the center of the city. They need my help I thought. I started to run back down to the elevator, but to my surprise the elevator didn't work. Just great now, oh well, I thought as I started to run down the stairs.

I started to count how many flights of stairs there where hoping by chance each flight would be the last. I was on flight number 32 and still counting. "How many more flights are there?" I asked myself a loud.

"33.34.35," I said still running down the stairs. "36.37.38.39.40! Finally I yelled as I reached the first floor. I ran out the main doors and started to run towards the center of the city.

When I was about half way to the center of the city I froze. In my mind I saw flashes of some images. The images were Shiva and the other GF's were fighting an unknown force.

I knelt down on my knees and put my hands over my ears. I could here the GF's shouting in pain. I thought that the fight I was seeing was the fight between the GF's and Duo, but I wasn't too certain. I then saw the unknown force just killed a GF. "NO!" I screamed as loudly as I could. "Stop it!"

No matter how hard I tried to stop the fight, the fight still continued. I saw the unknown force take its right hand and shoot right into another GF's stomach. I saw the blood fly all over the place. My eyes where so big I thought they would pop right out of my head. "Stop it!" I yelled again but this time the unknown force came right at me with it's claw like hand and tried to hit me, but before the unknown force could I snapped out of it.

I moved my hand to my face and felt some blood on my face. I became spooked, I would never have imagined what I was seeing would be or feel so real. I picked myself up, off the ground and moved to where a bench was located. I sat down trying to calm myself down, but I kept thinking I needed to go and help the GF's. I don't know what happened next, but I started to glow a silver tint.

"What is going on?" I asked myself.

All of a sudden a monster was right in front of me. I then stopped to glow. The monster took its sharp teeth and sank the teeth into my skin. The sharp teeth sank so deep into my skin I could feel that the monster's grip was starting to pierce through to the bone. I tried to get the monster's grip loose or at least get the monster off of my arm.

I could see the blood running down my arm and I knew if I didn't do something quick I would be the monster's next meal. I hurried and grabbed one of my twin blades and slashed the monster right across the face. The monster felt the blade of my sword sink into its skin and started to bleed so the monster let go of my arm.

Damn monster I said inside my head. I hurried and used a lighting attack to slay the monster, but before I could slay the monster, the monster ran away. I tore my shirt some to cover my arm wound.

I then continued to run towards the center of the city, but when I got there the fight was over. I couldn't believe what I saw next. There were bloody bodies all over the place, dead. Some of the dead bodies had their heads torn apart or other body parts were missing. I almost past out at the thought of how many people died today.

I knew there was only one person that could do this without having any guilt, Duo. I then shouted out, "Duo, if you are listening to this you better run and hide because when I find you I will kill you! That is a promise!"

I then saw Squall walking over to me and he said, "I know what you see here isn't a very nice sight, but life goes on. I contacted your friends and they should be here sometime today."

"Alright," I said as I followed Squall back to the mansion house. "Squall, why did so many have to die?"

"I wish I could answer that, but I can't. I'm sorry," Squall stated.

I just stared in front of me trying to figure out why so many had to die. Squall then put his arm around my shoulder.

I spoke up and said, "Squall, why was there a fight anyways in Ether?"

"It wasn't Duo; it was his gang. I do believe you know Vash, am I correct?" Squall stated.

"Yes I do so Vash was the one who came here and killed all these innocent people," I said.

"Yes, that is correct, but I can't believe Vash would do something like this. Rinoa said that Vash was quite, but he would try not to fight if he didn't have to," Squall stated. "When we get inside the building I will take a look at your wound."

I looked down at my right arm and I could see some blood was already seeking through the cloth. My arm still felt as though the monster was still sinking its sharp teeth into my skin. I wanted to cry from the pain I was feeling, but I knew crying wouldn't stop the pain.

Squall must have seen the hurt in my eyes from the wound and said, "Amara, go ahead and cry. Sometimes crying makes you feel better."

"I don't like to cry. I think that crying is for the weak," I said as we approached the building and entered it.

We then entered a room with medical crap in there. I sat down on a bed while Squall unwrapped my wound. Squall then said, "What the hell bit you?"

"A monster. I had some flash backs, no maybe not quite flash backs. More like flash present. I was in a daze when the monster attacked me. At first I didn't know what to do, but I managed to get the monster off my arm and then the monster fled," I replied.

"This is one deep wound, but you should be fine," Squall said as he poured some anti-biotic crap on my wound.

I made a face as Squall poured the anti-biotic on my wound. "That stings," I said.

"Tell me something I do not know," Squall said as he laughed. Squall then wrapped my wound. "There how does that feel?"

"Fine," I said. "Would it be alright if I took a short nap until my friends get here?"

"I am not going to stop you," Squall said as he got up. "You can sleep in here if you want or I can show you to a guest room."

"I'll just stay here; this room will suit me just fine," I said as I covered myself in a blanket and laid my head down.

"Alright, I'll wake you when your friends get here," Squall said as he left the room.
