The March Archives
The future's so bright, I gotta wear shadesMarch 30, 2005:
  • It was a day of much food flinging today. It all began at lunch when Chris and Renée were eating their leftover chili mac. Josh was sitting on Chris's lap and suddenly reached out and flung Chris's entire bowl to the ground. Of course, this pleased Twinkie greatly.
  • Later, we decided to experiment with Josh's dinner. Renée spread a shower curtain under the high chair, gave Josh a spoon and the bowl with his food (rice, carrots, and bananas tonight -- quite the feast), and let him go crazy. And make no mistake -- go crazy he did. He flung more food, made a big mess, but eventually figured it out. Again, Twinkie was the beneficiary of all of the flinging, as she got to lick the shower curtain clean.
  • Chris set up the hammock in the backyard today, and we all had a nice family hammock snuggle. Josh seemed to enjoy the swinging, but he really liked watching Twinkie frolic around with sticks in her mouth. This made him laugh hysterically, which is a very cute sight to behold. Highly recommended.
  • Speaking of cute sights, check out Josh's new sunglasses. The best use of one dollar ever.
  • Our streak of correct American Idol predictions ended at two as Scott Savol survived tonight's episode. We were surprised by the departure of Jessica Sierra but not particularly displeased; she wasn't one of our favorites and won't really be missed.
  • As we write this, David is en route to our house. Josh has become a much more wiggly baby since last they met -- should be interesting to watch.

March 29, 2005:
  • Josh has finally mastered the Jumperoo! Now he bounces merrily, which is great for us because he can entertain himself long enough to allow us to get things done around the house. Oddly, though, he doesn't stop bouncing when he wants to get out. Instead, he just bounces harder and cries frantically to be picked up. What a cute, goony little guy we have.
  • Tough choice on American Idol tonight. There weren't any clear-cut favorites, and nobody really dominated the evening. We think Scott Savol will be voted off tomorrow, which is sad because we like him. His performance tonight was just too bad to be ignored -- at least by us. We'll see tomorrow what America has to say.
  • Josh had a mini-breakdown at Target today when confronted with the sight of a man wearing sunglasses. Apparently the eyewear was just too much for Josh to take. So be warned, potential visitors to the Caruso house: Josh demands eye contact, and you'd better provide it unless you wish to face the wrath of an angry baby.
  • Perhaps we're the last people in the world to discover this, but if you pound chicken breast with a mallet (some would call this "tenderizing"), the meat becomes more -- dare I say it? -- tender. For some reason, we never knew this until recently. To think -- we've been eating tough chicken for five years. Where is Betty Crocker when you really need her?
This cup seems to be broken....

Oh goody! More stuff for me!March 27, 2005:
  • Happy Easter, everybody! The Easter Bunny was kind to our household this year, bringing lots of candy for Chris and Renée and some cool stuff for Josh, including a new sippy cup and a Elmo figure that laughs and talks when you shake it. Not surprisingly, however, Josh seemed just as interested in the Easter grass in his basket as he was in his new items. Babies are so easy to amuse sometimes.
  • We ate a delicious lunch of ham over at the Tingles' house, where we learned that, in a act of confusion, the Easter Bunny had left a basket for Josh there too! In this basket there were many books and a pair of toy telephones that entertained him greatly. He didn't really know how they were supposed to work, but he enjoyed chewing on them and randomly pushing their buttons.
  • Sleeping baby in tow, we headed to the Carusos' house for dessert, which was a choice of about five different things, including homemade cupcakes by Kate. In yet another wacky coincidence, there was an Easter Basket for us there too! This one contained candy for Renée and Chris and a Baby Monet video for Josh. We watched this video and learned that it had a soothing, calming effect. Unfortunately, it soothed everyone in the room except for Josh! He was wired, while we were all ready to take a nap. They should put a warning label on the DVDs: "Do not operate heavy machinery after watching Baby Monet."

March 26, 2005:
  • Today we had a family adventure. We packed up a lunch for ourselves (and a jar of bananas for Josh) and headed to Stone Mountain for a picnic. After traipsing around on the far side of the covered bridge for a while, we settled down to eat beside the lake and watch geese.
  • At first, the geese were only mildly curious and were easily placated by a few potato chips. Then came the Alpha Goose. This goose, the biggest of them all, charged in honking and scattered the lesser geese, then advanced toward us in a menacing fashion. As Chris knows all too well the fury of butt-nipping geese, we scurried in terror until the goose retreated.
  • Something was definitely up with the wildlife in the area today. After we got home, we were out in the backyard when we heard noise from the forest. Suddenly two deer went sprinting by at top speed, surprising us and stunning Twinkie. Perhaps the Alpha Goose was in hot pursuit.
  • We spent the evening watching movies on TV. First Renée watched Fried Green Tomatoes while Chris went out to get Easter supplies. Then, after dinner, we watched What Women Want and The American President while Josh slept beside us. Our usual Gilmore Girls fest was thwarted by a ridiculous ABC Family movie, so we had to make do.
What's that ominous honking sound?

Does this outfit make my head look big?March 25, 2005:
  • Along with the joy of a six-month birthday comes the trauma of a six-month pediatrician checkup. Josh only had to get two shots today - he didn't cry at all with the first one, but the second one was apparently much more painful.
  • We were looking forward to learning Josh's new stats, and here they are: 16lbs 12oz (38th %), 26.75 inches tall (62%), and a head circumference of 18 inches (92%)!! Our little man is tall and skinny with an enormous skull! It's gotta be huge to store that superintelligent brain.
  • The pediatric nurse could have used some of Josh's smarts - after giving him his second shot in the thigh, she carefully placed the Band-Aid on his lower leg. Looking at it for a moment, she said "Wait, I didn't give him a shot there!" Perhaps the bloody hole in his thigh was the giveaway.
  • The competence of the receptionist who checked us out was also nothing to sneeze at. She did a victory dance upon successfully scheduling Josh's 9-month appointment in the computer - either it was her first day or she truly believes in celebrating life's little moments.

March 24, 2005:
  • Happy Six-Month Birthday, Josh! It sure doesn't seem like it's been half a year since our little guy was born, but here we are. This growing up thing isn't all fun and games, though. The horror known as teething has reared its ugly head, turning our normally sweet boy into what can only be described as a super crabbypants. Josh has been uncharacteristically cranky the past few days, which is to be expected, given the fact that sharp objects are beginning to protrude from his sensitive gums.
  • Ever the trouper, Josh still accompanied Renée on some expeditions today. They went to a mommy meetup at Lilburn Park; unfortunately, there were no other babies there -- only toddlers. Josh still had a good time playing on the baby swing with his mommy and enjoying the pleasant spring weather. Later, they went to Target to get supplies for Easter baskets. There Josh decided that he'd had enough for one day and started to act up, only to be told by an old lady that "You're too cute to be fussy." Displaying his mommy's sense of independence, Josh made every effort to prove the lady wrong.
  • Very cool news from the west coast. Dana, Chris's FSU buddy and the director of Zeke, emailed to say that Zeke was being featured in a book about student filmmakers and would be included on a DVD packaged with the book. This book, which comes out on Tuesday amid a grand gala in New York City, is available for purchase on Amazon.com for about ten dollars, and more information about it can be found here. Chris has already ordered his copy; have you?
I'll have what Mommy's drinking

What a studMarch 23, 2005:
  • Quite the exciting day for Josh on the eve of his six-month birthday. First of all, he and Renée went to Bank of America to start his very own bank account. He is already rich (currently has $28 to his name) but any contributions to his college fund will be cheerfully accepted and deposited.
  • Next, mommy and baby visited Kid To Kid and bought Josh a snazzy new swimsuit to wear to his swim classes next month. Now the other babies won't tease him about having to wear plastic pants since the swimsuit will tastefully hide that fact. After a modeling session this afternoon, we can only say this: all those six-month-old girls had better watch out, because we've got a ladykiller on our hands.
  • We'll have to wait an extra day to find out if our American Idol predictions are correct. Due to a technical glitch, all of the votes from yesterday were thrown out. Instead, tonight they re-broadcast all of last night's performances so people could vote again. So again we'll say that Mikalah must go, for she was lousy and more annoying than ever -- she even wore a shirt that said "My job is to annoy you." Mission accomplished.

March 22, 2005:
  • Josh is getting too big for us to keep up with! Yesterday he was in the crib playing with his toy, when all of a sudden he grabbed ahold of the top of it and pulled himself up! So now we've got to lower his crib mattress before he tries to fling himself out of his crib.
  • Tuesdays have been "New Food for Josh" days lately, and today he tried pureéd bananas. Alas, it did not go over quite as swimmingly as the squash did last week. He grimaced and made gagging faces when Renée attempted to feed him today. He did eat a little bit, though, so hopefully he will continue to give the bananas a chance.
  • Our choice for American Idol reject of the week was a no-brainer tonight: Mikalah sounded awful and is just generally annoying as well. We thought Carrie Underwood did well, and Chris was quite pleased with the inclusion of "Total Eclipse of the Heart."
  • Finally, some excitement at Staples yesterday. Way back in November, Chris took an online training course about Epson printers because he was bored. Fast forward to January, when a representative called Chris to tell him he was randomly selected to win a printer, which would be delivered to the store in six to eight weeks. Well, yesterday an envelope addressed to Chris arrived at Staples. Apparently, they decided that rather than giving him a printer, they would just give him a check for $200, which is much better, since we don't really need a new printer right now. Hooray!
Billy Idol, eat your heart out

Mommy, Daddy, have you met my foot?March 20, 2005:
  • We really do cram a lot into these weekends. This morning, Chris ran out to get a haircut (looks okay, though they gelled him heavily, forcing a second shower). When he returned, we all ventured to Target to pick up, among other things, a Jumperoo for Josh. He hasn't quite mastered the jumping concept yet, but he loves the lights and sounds that it makes.
  • Then we packed the whole family in the car and headed to Conyers. Josh hung out with Nana, Papa, Aunt Kate and Aunt Hannah for a few hours, taking a long walk and playing airplane with Papa. Meanwhile, Chris and Renée went to the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival. We ate many tasty treats (hot dogs, fries and a caramel apple) and saw numerous crafts. We greatly enjoyed a show put on by Atlanta Puppet, the grand finale of which involved a puppet squirting water out of its eyes while "The Crying Game" played. Bizarre yet amusing, and the kids loved it.
  • When we returned to Chris's parents' house, we ate a boiled dinner in honor of St. Patrick's Day and had brownies and ice cream. By this time we were pretty well ready to burst, so we had a nice sit out on the swing, where Josh showed off his feet to anyone who would watch. Then it was time to go home, where we watched Gilmore Girls and the Food Network. Fun day, fun night.
  • One other bit of news: Josh has a tooth! Though we still have not seen it, we can hear it when we tap a spoon on his gums. Our little guy is so big!

March 19, 2005:
  • Very busy day today. After we all were bathed and fed this morning, we headed out to the Mountain Park Aquatic Center so Renée could sign Josh up for swim classes. So starting April 12, our little guy will be a pool baby! More on this exciting development as it occurs.
  • After completing the registration, we stopped by a consignment sale at a nearby church. There wasn't a whole lot of stuff left, but we did pick up a very cute sun hat and shirt for Josh. Still no good deals on used Jumperoos, so we might end up buying a new one as an early 6-month birthday present. We'll see.
  • We had many guests tonight as a large contingent of Lobbyrats visited us. Courtney, Kevin, Caitlyn and Dave Utrata all came over to fawn over Josh and give Twinkie the attention that she never gets from us. We picked up food from El Torero and watched Collateral on DVD, though Renée conked out on the floor about halfway through. It was a nice visit, even if Kevin made Josh cry every time he looked at him. Just goes to show that we have a very discerning baby.
  • A couple has rented the house next door to us, and we met our new neighbors today. The exciting news is that the woman is pregnant with a little boy! Soon Josh may have a new friend to play with, and that would be quite cool.
Easter makes me so happy

Take me out to the ballgame, Daddy!March 18, 2005:
  • Chris had to sit through an all-day training session today so that he can become a keyholder at Staples. It was full of useful information, such as what to do if a vehicle crashes into the building. He has not received the keys in question yet, though it will be a grand day indeed whenever he does.
  • Renée and Josh took advantage of Chris's absence by returning our library books before we could get hit by even more overdue fines. They also put the big bunny on the door to welcome all visitors to our house, although it seems like the only people we see are the Jehovah's Witnesses. Bunny pictures are sure to be forthcoming.
  • We had a very tasty dinner tonight, making Ritz Cracker Chicken from Kate's recipe. Throw in some cheesy broccoli and corn on the side with a smoothie to drink and you have all the components of a delightful evening. Yum yum!
  • Our ongoing efforts to convert our collection of VHS movies to DVD got a small boost today when the L.A. Confidential DVD that Chris had ordered from Amazon came. It only took some $2500 in purchases to earn enough points to get this $15 movie for "free". Hooray for capitalism!

March 17, 2005:
  • Happy St. Patrick's Day! We all made sure to wear green today to avoid being pinched. When Chris got home from work and changed clothes, though, he forgot to add something green to his new outfit and received a vicious pinching from Renée. It was pretty terrifying, but he survived.
  • Renée and Josh decorated the house for Easter yesterday. Josh was a big helper and very much enjoyed playing with the Easter eggs. The only item that still needs to go up is our five-foot-tall Easter bunny door decoration, which stayed up until June last year. Chris sure does love that bunny.
  • Continuing in their tempest of productivity, Mommy and Baby also made a delicious chili dip yesterday. It basically consists of a layer of cream cheese with chili and cheddar cheese spread on top of it. Bake for ten minutes until everything is all gooey, then enjoy with tortilla chips. It was very yummy and we were thoroughly pleased.
  • For once, our American Idol prediction came true. Lindsay is gone! Next on our "You must leave" list: Constantine and Mikalah.
Kiss me -- I'm Irish and adorable!

This is new and excitingMarch 15, 2005:
  • Josh has had an adventurous couple of days. Tonight he made the leap from simple grain cereals to something much more interesting: vegetables. This foray into the second major food group began with a little tub of squash. Although initially a bit apprehensive, he soon warmed to the orange goo and even had a good time playing with it. We'll continue to try him out on squash for the week before moving on to another veggie.
  • He also had his very first shower yesterday! Accompanied by Chris, Josh experimented with bathing without the tub. He was quite a good boy during his shower, though he cringed a little when it was time to rinse the shampoo out of his hair. He's not really ready to give up his usual baths yet, but it's nice to know that he doesn't mind the shower as well.
  • This afternoon we watched some old home movies of a six-month-old Renée that her dad had put on DVD. The movies themselves were great, but even better was the audio commentary, which had been recorded by Renée in 1983. One of the highlights occurs when she describes all the things that she could do at the age of six months that Mike could not do at the same time, like crawling and rolling over. Sibling tension? Never heard of it.
  • Tonight begins the paring down of the final 12 on American Idol. For the third week in a row, we're predicting the farewell of Lindsay Cardinale. We can only hope that this time America has enough sense to prove us right.

March 13, 2005:
  • We spent the afternoon at Chris's parents' house, where Renée attended a jewelry party while Chris hid out downstairs. She picked out a cute anklet to get, and he watched The Best of Adam Sandler with his dad. Meanwhile, Josh was cooed over by many women (he seemed to enjoy the extra attention) and had a great time lounging in the baby swing outside. Later, we all had Chinese food for dinner, except for Josh, who happily gnawed on a Tupperware lid.
  • When we got home, Josh had his oatmeal cereal dinner and then we all settled down for a night of cuddling. We watched About Schmidt while Josh napped, then tried fruitlessly to find any information on television about the thunderstorms that were pummelling our house. Shortly after, though, the weather let up a little, allowing this website update -- what a relief.
  • Not too much else to report today. Renée was finally able to wear her birthday tracksuit today after Chris switched out the pants for the correct size. She looked adorable in her pink outfit and, contrary to popular belief, did not resemble an Easter egg.
The Easter Bunny goes hop hop hop

I seem to have gotten wetMarch 12, 2005:
  • Last night we watched Three Men and a Baby. Josh was lying on the couch, trying to sleep, but every time he heard the baby crying onscreen, he turned to stare at the television. Apparently he believes that he is the protector of crying babies everywhere -- what a noble guy.
  • Today Josh and Chris had some manly bonding time while Renée was out shopping with her mom. The boys read some books, took a walk around the neighborhood, and enjoyed the nice weather by lying out in the grass. Meanwhile, Renée got her nails done, picked up a pair of cute purses, and brought home some of the new Arby's Cheddar Jack Chicken Wraps for dinner (highly recommended -- try one today!). All in all, everyone had a nice day.
  • Josh is moving up in the world. This morning, he graduated from his newborn bathtub to his big kid bath seat. He was a tad apprehensive about the whole thing but didn't seem to mind the change too much. The bath had to be cut short, however, when Josh started making suspicious grunting sounds and attempted to create his own bubble bath.

March 10, 2005:
  • A much less eventful day today than the previous few. We started off the day right, with a nutritious breakfast of birthday cake and ice cream. Let no one say that we are not embracing the healthy lifestyle. Josh tried very hard to stick his little hands into Daddy's plate but was ultimately unsuccessful and had to content himself with barley cereal for breakfast.
  • Chris had his one-year anniversary at Staples last week, and today he received his year-end review. It was generally positive, containing such phrases as "Chris sets example and multitasks to achieve positive results" and "Chris prioritizes well and sees big picture." Clearly that 49-cent raise was well deserved.
  • Kevin called today meaning to wish Renée a happy un-birthday but actually wished her an unhappy birthday -- quite a different sentiment. In any event, the call was appreciated and it was good to hear from our Athens friends. We're hoping to get together soon, schedules permitting. Stay tuned for more.
  • Josh tried out one of his new outfits today, an adorable green gardening suit Renée picked up at the consignment sale a few weeks ago. The ensemble came complete with a pair of baby sandals, which Josh deigned to wear long enough for Daddy to snap a few pictures. He then kicked them off and proceeded to chew on his toes. There's no accounting for taste.
Hurry up, Daddy -- my feet must be free!

Happy Birthday, Mommy!March 9, 2005:
  • Happy Birthday, Renée! Tonight we celebrated Renée's 26th birthday with her parents, who brought over dinner from Chili's. After we gorged ourselves on burgers and ribs, we tackled the mint chocolate chip cake that Chris made. Despite Chris's worries about a cake made from scratch, it turned out to be pretty tasty, if mighty rich. It was a nice evening and our full tummies were quite pleased by it all.
  • After the festivities had ended, we watched the American Idol result show. Like last week, we correctly predicted two of the four people sent home this week, though the fact that Nikko is out and Lindsay is in boggles our minds. In any event, most of the people that we like made it through, so we've still got people to cheer for.
  • We also had a mini Friends marathon, watching several episodes from the season 2 DVD set. It's very tough, however, to stay awake with so much heavy food sitting in our bellies. So many classic episodes, so little energy.

March 8, 2005:
  • Tonight we celebrated Renée's birthday in style, if one day early. First, Chris baked a cake, which we will eat tomorrow night when the Tingles come over. Next, we brought home a ton of food from Sonic, including Extra Long Chili Cheese Coneys, Cheese Tots, an Orange Creamslush, and -- best of all -- a 44-ounce Cherry Limeade. It was terrifically delicious, and we felt like we were going to explode, but in a good way.
  • While eating, we watched tonight's American Idol. We're going to go with last week's picks again and say that Janay and Lindsay are going home, but with this fickle voting public, who can really tell? Nadia was good again, but aside from her, the girls weren't too impressive.
  • Renée opened her presents from Josh and Chris and received a framed portrait of Josh, a new book, some Mint Milano cookies, a big huge water jug, and a pink terry tracksuit that Renée had been dropping hints about for months. She was most pleased with her presents, especially since they proved that Chris can actually take a hint if hammered over the head enough.
  • Finally, we ended the evening by watching Flight of the Navigator. Though the movie was good, the busy day had tuckered us all out, and we took turns dozing off on the couch. Renée was quite the happy girl, wearing her tracksuit, cuddling her baby, and watching one of her favorite childhood movies -- not a bad way to spend a birthday eve.
Mommy loves baby, baby loves mommy

These toes are delightful!March 7, 2005:
  • Another night, another American Idol episode. It was the boys' night tonight, and we still really like Anwar and Bo, but we're ready to say goodbye to Travis and Constantine. However, we fear the teenage female vote will keep Constantine in for a little while longer. We hope we're wrong.
  • Things are gearing up for Renée's birthday celebration. Chris shopped for ingredients to make her cake today, while Sandi's present -- the 1980's classic Flight of the Navigator -- arrived in the mail today. Excitement is in the air -- can you feel it?
  • The movie wasn't the only cool thing to come in the mail today. We also received a free sample of rice cereal, free diapers, baby food coupons, and a $25 Amazon.com certificate. Of course, we also got a television bill, but you can't win them all.
  • We finished watching the first disc of Punky Brewster today, including selections from the Punky Brewster animated series. Josh really liked Glomer, a two-foot-tall talking chipmunk who flies and sounds like the Jackalope. Josh was notably less impressed with the interview with the show's executive producer, but then again, so were we.

March 6, 2005:
  • It was a busy and exciting day today. First, we all went to Mountain Park Park for a family walk. It was a bit windy out, so we only did one lap on the mile-long path.
  • We then headed to Discover Mills so that Josh and Renée could show Chris all the exciting things there, like the Lego Darth Vader and the candy store. This being a weekend, the mall was much more crowded than on our first trip. Since this mall includes the ESPN X-Games play center, there were a lot of running, skating, and scootering teenagers flying around. Danged young'uns.
  • There was a sale at the Children's Place, so we went in to take a look. The store was set up so that no stroller (or adult) could fit through the aisles. Deciding that Josh did not need camouflage shorts, we extricated ourselves and headed home.
  • On the way back, we stopped at Bruster's. Josh was very interested in Renée's ice cream - just a few more months til he can get his very own! We recommend the chocolate raspberry truffle - it's yumtastic.
  • This evening, once Josh went to sleep, we made smoothies and had a Punky Brewster marathon. The funky background music cracked us up. Oh, Henry!
Smells better than my diaper.

Being this cute all the time wears me outMarch 5, 2005:
  • Josh surprised Renée today with a new trick. He was in the crib, wearing his robe in anticipation of a bath while Renée filled up the tub. When she came back into the room, she caught Josh with his big toe in his mouth! Of course, he's still young enough for this to be absolutely adorable, though there would most likely be quite the uproar if Renée spied Chris doing this.
  • While Josh was napping this evening, he suddenly laughed out loud in his sleep. He must have been dreaming about playing Peekaboo with his Daddy, which amused him greatly earlier today. It was super cute and made Mommy and Daddy very happy.
  • We've discovered a new Saturday night activity: Gilmore Girls on the ABC Family. Each Saturday they show three episodes in a row, and they started off last week with the first episodes, so we're getting to see the show from its very beginning. It's a clever show with lots of witty banter and amusingly painful (or painfully amusing) situations. We like it a lot.
  • As you probably noticed, the February posts have been relocated to their own page. Go check it out and relive the glory and wonder of that bygone time that was last week.

March 4, 2005:
  • The saying "Good fences make good neighbors" was given the literal treatment today, as a worker from the county came out to repair a fence damaged by a fallen tree. You see, the man that owns the house next to ours noticed that both our fence and his had been hit by the same tree, and since the county owned the tree, they covered the cost of repairs. So thanks to a tip from our neighbor, we now have a newly fixed fence. How exciting!
  • Chris went to Joe's house to help take apart the swingset that will eventually move from Joe's backyard to ours. He brought the camera along to document the whole process, from beginning to middle to end. Once we have a clear spot in the backyard, we can move the pieces over here and have fun reassembling everything.
  • At long last, we have a new chair for our computer desk! Chris picked up a fancy executive massage chair from Staples (on clearance for $8.50, marked down from $179.99 -- now THAT'S a deal) to replace the decades-old chair we had been using. Our butts will thank us.
  • Per Nick's request in our guestbook, here is a picture of Josh in his Cubs uniform. Do not let this picture fool you, though -- he is still a Braves fan, through and through. That's why he's not smiling: the shame of wearing the uniform of a team of losers (just kidding, Nick!).
Let's play two

Mmmmm.....beef jerkyMarch 3, 2005:
  • Yesterday Josh and Renée met up with one of the other Atlanta Mommies at the Discover Mills mall for their Wednesday walk. Renée was quite impressed with the mall, and Josh always enjoys getting out into the world to see new things, so he had a good time too. One of these days we'll have to make a family outing to Discover Mills so Chris can visit the Lego store there and revel in his geekiness.
  • We did a little bit better with our American Idol predictions last night, correctly picking two out of four. We were a little surprised about the girls that were voted off, but there's always next week.
  • Josh did the most adorable thing today. The whole family was asleep in bed, with Josh between Chris and Renée and Twinkie at our feet. Apparently, Josh's wet diaper started bothering him and woke him up at around 5:30am. But instead of crying like he normally would in that situation, he quietly tried to wake up Mommy and Daddy. He just kept looking back and forth, tapping Renée on the shoulder and Chris on the chin, waiting until one of us woke up. Finally we were roused, and Josh couldn't have been more pleased with himself. He had the biggest smile on his face as Daddy changed his diaper. Can you believe that this little genius is only five months old?

March 1, 2005:
  • Josh got to experience his first snow today! We had some little flurries, so Renée dressed Josh up in his snowsuit and brought him outside. He seemed perplexed by the phenomenon, and when Mommy made a snowball for him to play with, he didn't know quite what to do with it. Nevertheless, we got lots of cute pictures of our frosty fella.
  • More excitement for Josh this evening. For dinner tonight he had mixed grain cereal. That's right -- he's no longer limited to single grain cereals! This new one has rice and oatmeal (which he had already had) as well as wheat (which is new to Josh). He ate up the whole bowl and seemed pretty pleased about it.
  • American Idol has been on the past two nights, and we again have predictions for who will stay and who will go. For the boys, Anwar and Bo had great performances again, but we think David and Joseph won't make it to next week. For the girls, we like Carrie and Nadia, but are not so fond of Lindsay. And after another bad performance by local contestant Janay, we think she'll be gone tomorrow night. Guess we'll wait and see.
Help! The sky is falling!
