The April Archives
April 30, 2005:
  • For the first time in several weeks, Chris was home to watch the Gilmore Girls mini-marathon live. Unfortunately, ABC Family decided to use tonight to play the top five GG episodes as voted on by the viewers. Needless to say, this sorta messed up our chronological viewing plan, as Rory jumped from being a sophomore in high school to being accepted at Yale. Disheartened, we had to turn to the Braves game for solace. At least the Braves had the courtesy to win, sparing us from even more disappointment.
  • Renée found a television show that featured her two favorite things: food, and vintage bakeware.. It was called A Century of Food and traced the path of all things yumtastic in American culture for the past hundred years. Of course, no documentary would be complete without a selection of commercials from the 1950s, displaying a variety of vintage cookware that would cost thousands of dollars to collect on eBay.
  • Other than that, not much going on today. The weather was bleak and gloomy most of the day, though Chris and Josh did manage to sneak in a short walk during a break in the rain. No fun wildlife today, unless you count our very hairy neighbor who was out on his porch. Shudder.
Ryan Seacrest, eat your heart out

Wake me when we get to Sesame Street.April 29, 2005:
  • Not much news yesterday. Renée and Josh had swim class, and when they got home Chris grilled burgers for lunch. In the evening, the whole family went for a walk, an outing which left Josh plumb tuckered out.
  • Today Chris didnt have to go to work, so we caught up on our Gilmore Girls tape and puttered around the house. Deciding that our newly shrub-free mailbox area would benefit from some pretty flowers, we went to Lowes. Problem: we know NOTHING about pretty flowers. After much befuddled wandering, we picked up a tray of petunias. Will they be up to the task? Stay tuned to find out!
  • After our flower hunt, we met Renées dad at The Fishermans Catch for dinner. Josh was in a great mood and shrieked merrily in his high chair while we ate. To the elderly restaurant patrons, we say hey, he wasnt CRYING!!
  • Post-dinner, we stopped by the Tingle abode where we had an unexpected wildlife adventure. Several neighbors had gathered to look at two owls in the trees across the street. It appeared to be a mother owl who had abandoned her baby. The baby was just sitting all alone in a small tree while the mother scared birds in a nearby oak. Poor baby owl! Josh was unmoved by the little creatures plight, drooling calmly on his Daddy.

April 27, 2005:
  • Hooray! Constantine got voted off of American Idol-- that's even better than if Anthony had gone! Constantine's cocky brooding act had long since worn thin with us, but we figured the teenage girl vote would keep him in for a while. But yay! The public finally realized that he was, by far, the worst singer left in the competition. In a bold move, we're going to go ahead and predict the next three weeks. The losers will be (in this order) Anthony, Scott, and Vonzell. Then it's Bo and Carrie in the finals, and that will be a duel for the ages.
  • In more excitement, we purchased a laptop computer today. Chris's Staples connection paid off, as we were able to get a Toshiba laptop (which previously sold for almost $700) for less than $300. The power of mobile computing now belongs to us! Now all we need is a high-speed internet connection and a wireless router, and we'll be able to update the website from the hammock.
  • Josh practiced his standing today. He's getting quite good at it and even stood for a split second after letting go of his table; then his arms pinwheeled around, and down he went. He may just skip right over that crawling thing and go straight to running around the house.
  • It's good that the Braves won today, but poor Tom Glavine. Ever since signing with the Mets, he always gets beat up by the Braves. Hopefully he'll do a little bit better against the rest of the National League. That 300-win plateau is still within reach, but the only if the Mets start winning.
Not gonna topple....not gonna topple....

Tut tut....looks like rainApril 26, 2005:
  • Despite the inclement weather, Renée and Josh went to their swim class today. It turned out to be much less crowded than usual as only four babies showed up. Josh, always an opportunist, took the chance to play with the coveted red octopus. He also kicked while floating on his back, impressing Mommy very much with his Nemo-like abilities.
  • Tough night on American Idol. Bo was the only one who really impressed us tonight -- everyone else was mediocre at best. Anthony actually sang pretty well, but we're so sick of him that we hope that he gets voted off. We shall see tomorrow whether America shares our dislike for him.
  • Josh's most recent addition to his menu is green beans, and while he seems to like eating it okay, he really likes smearing it everywhere -- his face, his high chair, his clothes, everywhere. Perhaps he's got a future as a professional finger painter.

April 25, 2005:
  • Quite a busy day for us today. Renée's eBay auction ended yesterday (the Pez dispensers ended up selling for $11), so we started our afternoon by heading to the post office to send the Pez away. With that, Renée completed her first eBay sale and has now taken a step into a larger world.
  • We then proceeded to the Gwinnett Place Mall to spend the $50 gift card that Renée received at her WEDA baby shower way back in July or so. Though we didn't spend the whole card, we did pick up some Yankee Candle tarts (mmmmm.....cherry lemonade) and two big bags of candy from the candy shop. Unsurprisingly, Chris's is already gone, while Renée's will likely last until June.
  • The candy was not the only exciting food that we had today. We finally discovered the elusive Fossil Fuel, and it proved to be well worth the wait. Highly recommended. Later in the evening, we dined on the ever-popular Ritz Chicken with a huge pot of garlic mashed potatoes. Instead of using the usual baking potatoes, we made it with red potatoes and left the skin on. Very tasty indeed, and the leftovers will serve us well in the next few days.
  • Papa, Aunt Kate and Aunt Hannah swung by for a quick visit this evening. The girls played with Josh while Papa checked out a dead tree in the backyard and borrowed the DVDs of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones to prepare for Revenge of the Sith. The visit was brief (they had to get home in time for 24) but nice.
  • Speaking of 24, Chloe with the machine gun has got to be one of the best moments of the season hands down. Sure, she can be annoying, but still -- what a great moment!
Daddy, must you always be underfoot?

That bone looks tasty -- can we trade?April 24, 2005:
  • Happy seven-month birthday, Josh! Our little dude is quickly becoming a big dude.
  • Sadly, our search for Fossil Fuel was foiled this morning, as our Ingles stocks a pitiful selection of Ben & Jerry's ice creams. We're shopping at Publix tomorrow, so we'll try there. We even have a coupon for a dollar off of two pints, so the results of our search are more crucial than ever.
  • The Ingles trip today was not a total waste, however. Chris bought of box of Frosted Flakes that contained within a Star Wars light-up Saberspoon. That's right -- a lightsaber handle attached to a spoon that glows red when you push a button. The spoon will be out in full force in a few weeks when Chris and his dad go see Episode III. Renée, of course, doesn't think this is at all silly. Not at all.

April 23, 3005:
  • Now that it's approaching summer, we've been in a very ice-cream-y sort of mood. We've currently got a flavor called Graham Slam, which is graham cracker-flavored ice cream with little chocolate chunks. Of course, one should always try new things, which is why tomorrow we're going to look for the latest Ben & Jerry's flavor, Fossil Fuel. This concoction is sweet cream ice cream with chocolate cookie pieces, a fudge swirl, and fudge dinosaurs. How terrifically exciting!
  • On the subject of all things terrific and exciting, the Braves beat up on the Phillies tonight, 11-1. Sadly, Chris was at Staples and missed the whole thing. However, he was glad to see that all of those peanuts he ate this afternoon helped the cause.
  • It was just one of those days when all we wanted to do was curl up in bed and go to sleep. Luckily, Josh was actually willing to comply with that wish today. Renée and Josh had a wonderful nap on the couch today, sleeping for about three hours! Now if only he'll go along with his daddy's desire to sleep past 7am.....
Look at me -- I'm Marge Simpson!

Oh boy - my picture album!! April 22, 2005:
  • Tonight Renée got together with five other moms for a Mom's Night Out. They went to Sangria's, where they enjoyed mango margaritas and yummy fajitas. Renée was even kind enough to bring Chris some leftovers. Meanwhile, back on the home front, Josh and Chris watched the Braves game. Lo and behold, the Braves won! A good time was had by all.
  • While watching the game, Chris had access to a wide variety of snackage. This is because earlier in the day we realized we had absolutely no snack food in the house at all. Horrified, Chris ran to Ingles to purchase peanuts, Oatmeal Creme Pies, grapes, and assorted other goodies. Josh is quite jealous, but can be mollified with applesauce.
  • There were some scary storms today. High winds this afternoon brought a limb down in our yard. Then tonight, Renée and Twinkie were both hiding from the thunder and lightning. Everyone has emerged unscathed.

April 21, 2005:
  • Not much to report today, but we just had to share this picture with the world. Isn't our little guy super cute?
  • Ever since Chris started performing manager duties at Staples, we have a new enemy: ADT Security. Whenever the store opens later than 7am or closes later than 10pm (which is to say, virtually every day), the alarm company calls the house to make sure that all is well. Of course, during these time periods, Josh is usually asleep -- that is, until the phone rings. It's an annoyance and doesn't really serve much of a purpose, since Chris isn't going to hop out of bed and rush to the store if the other managers are five minutes late opening up. Sheesh.
  • Speaking of Staples, tonight's episode of The Apprentice had the contestants designing a new product for Staples. The winning product, the Desk Apprentice, is now for sale, but don't ask Chris to pick one up for you -- this item is only available on Staples.com.
  • Renée has currently got a lot of duplicate Pez dispensers up for sale on eBay. As of right now, with two days and thirteen hours left, she's received three bids, bringing the total up to $2.00. Very exciting times.
  • The Braves finally pulled out a win today, sparing Josh a few tears. Hopefully their offense will kick into gear soon -- you can't always count on those ninth inning errors to provide you with some runs.
I love my Stage 2 food!

WHEEEEEEE!!!! April 20, 2005:
  • Another beautiful day, another opportunity for a fun family outing. Today we went to the library (new books and audiobooks for the whole family!) and then walked from there to Mountain Park Park, where Josh had the entire playground to himself. He slid down the slides with Mommy and Daddy and even got to swing on the big kid swing, both on Daddy's lap as well as on his tummy á la Superman. It was very nice to be able to play on all of the fun stuff without having to fight with a high schooler for use of the jungle gym.
  • After all this playtime, we continued walking -- all the way to Bruster's! Chris had a delicious waffle cone of mint chocolate chip ice cream, but Renée outdid him in the tastiness factor with her Creme Savers flavored Strawberry Creme ice treat. So yummy. So very very yummy.
  • What is wrong with this country? How is it that Anthony Fedorov remains to sing another week while a genuine talent like Anwar is going home? Bah, we say. Did anyone else notice Anthony's pouty lip when he was in the bottom three? That alone should have gotten him a one-way ticket back to Palookaville.

April 19, 2005:
  • Chris used his lunch break today to go visit Josh and Renée at their swim class. He got to see them play Humpty Dumpty, Ring Around the Rosey, and the perennial favorite Hokey Pokey. Josh did very well at all of these games, but he did not want to have anything to do with the life jacket that the instructor wanted him to wear. Guess Josh is just that confident about his swimming skills already.
  • Later in the afternoon, we had a relaxing lounge in the hammock, though Josh preferred to jump on Daddy's belly rather than lying down. Now that he's got a Jumperoo, he thinks that everybody is his own personal bouncy toy. What a goony little man!
  • American Idol prediction for the week: Anthony Federov is going home. Of course, we say that every week, but surely we'll be right one of these times. We liked Bo a lot this week, even going so far as to cast a vote for him. Now no one can accuse us of being uninvolved in the democratic process.
Has anyone seen my other hand?

Mommy, who's cuter?April 18, 2005:
  • Attack of the monster poo!! Josh took a giant dump in his jumperoo today. Clothes were stained. Legs were smeared. Mommy gagged. The horror, the horror!! Josh was unfazed, smiling brightly in his stinkiness.
  • On the subject of goo, Josh tried peas for the first time tonight. He seemed to like them, not having any noticeable change of expression when we switched from cereal to peas and back again.
  • Chris and Josh took a nice walk this afternoon. They saw some big dogs and met some young neighbors. Josh brought along his sippy cup of apple juice, but preferred to throw it into the street and make Daddy fetch it. Parents, so easily trained.
  • Since Mommy had to deal with monster poo, Josh and Daddy surprised her with a fun ice cream treat while the family watched Nanny 911 tonight. It was an Oreo ice cream clown, complete with cherry nose and peanut butter-chocolate kiss eyes. If you learn anything from our website this month, let it be this: Oreo treats cure all ills.
  • If you have been fretting that Chris will attend the midnight premiere of Star Wars alone, take heart: he has ordered tickets for himself and his dad. It will be a festival of Caruso male bonding - too bad Josh is too young to attend.
  • Speaking of male-bonding-fests, as this entry is being written, there is a seemingly endless Braves game on TV. Still scoreless in the top of the 12th inning!! The Braves have got to pull through - we're running low on Oreo goodness.

April 17, 2005:
  • No update last night, as Chris was stuck at Staples doing inventory until 3:45am. This fun activity consisted of accompanying some people as they counted everything in the store, and then going behind them and recounting everything. Needless to say, it was the place to be in Stone Mountain on a Saturday night.
  • We've discovered a new recipe in an unlikely place: the newsletter that accompanied our power bill. This recipe was for a very tasty Pizza Dip. You take two blocks of softened cream cheese and spread them over a 2-quart casserole. Add one jar of pizza sauce, two cups of mozzarella cheese and some sliced pepperoni and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Then serve with corn chips and enjoy! It's yumtastic!
  • The family drove over to Lilburn Park today so that Josh could play on the playground. Alas, being a weekend, the park was overrun with obnoxious teenagers, but we still managed to get in some quality time on the baby swing and the bouncy tractor. Josh even went down a slide with a little help from Daddy. We'll have to go again sometime when the "big kids" are in school.
  • Finally, sheer excitement arrived in the mail yesterday. After some three months of waiting, the replacement remote control for our home theater system showed up. Huzzah! Now we can raise or lower the volume at will. The power of audio technology is in our hands!
What do you mean I'm too young to drive?

Might I trouble you for a napkin?April 15, 2005:
  • Josh's sense of independence is growing faster than his motor skills can keep up with. Today he decided he wanted to feed himself and repeatedly grabbed the spoon of sweet potatoes from Renée's hand. As you can see from the picture, the whole "spoon goes in the mouth" thing still eludes Josh, though the whole "I look adorable while covered in orange goo" thing comes naturally to him.
  • We got an odd letter from the Gwinnett County Department of Assessors, saying that the property value of our house had dropped over $80,000 this year. We called to inquire about it and learned that they thought that our house was no longer there. Kinda makes you wonder about the people doing the appraisals if they can manage to miss an entire house.
  • Renée made a trip into Snellville to pick up a bag of clothes from a fellow Freecycler. The bag included two pairs of shorts, some t-shirts, and even a dress. Not all of the clothes are worth keeping, but still a pretty good haul, especially for free.
  • Sometimes Twinkie just isn't that bright. One of our glasses broke in the dishwasher this evening, and Twinkie rushed over to try to eat the broken glass. Luckily she didn't consume any, but really -- that's dumb, even by Twinkie's standards.
  • Chris is gearing up for the release of Star Wars: Episode III on May 19th -- or more specifically, at midnight on May 18th. However, Josh is a bit too young (it is rated PG-13, after all) and Renée is going to stay home with him. So who wants to go see the very first show of Star Wars at Stonecrest in a few weeks? Any takers?

April 14, 2005:
  • Another swim class for Josh and Renée today. The new trick for the day was to try to get Josh to float on his back. This did not fare so well, as he was much more interested in his dolphin toy. Nevertheless, the class was fun for both mommy and baby. Hopefully even Daddy will be able to come by for a visit sometime, work schedule permitting.
  • We had a goony afternoon, making virgin strawberry daiquiris and watching Annie on DVD. The drinks were delicious (copious amounts of whipped cream contributed to that) and the movie was great as always. Gotta love that Punjab and his turban of justice.
  • Josh just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Today he got to try out the playpen aspect of his Pack 'N' Play for the first time, which he seemed to enjoy -- he especially loved looking at Mommy and Daddy through the mesh walls. He also had some success with his new sippy cup. It's still a little tough for him to hold on to, but he is able to drink from it without pouring it all over himself. Such exciting times to be a six-month-old.
  • Chris continued his work on the remainder of the mailbox shrub this afternoon. After digging down about a foot into the ground and still not finding the end of the shrub's roots, Chris gave up and just sawed off the part that was above ground. We'll just put a garden gnome over that spot.
Don't fence me in

Me take bite from here, me take bite from there...April 13, 2005:
  • Scary moments during the American Idol results show tonight. It looked like Bo might go home -- but thankfully, it was Nadia instead.
  • We had a pleasant surprise today. Chris got to come home from work four hours early because he was heading into overtime. Yay! Unexpected family time is always welcomed.
  • Since Chris was home, we watched the Braves game this afternoon. It was, to say the least, not very good. Luckily there was Oreo pudding pie to drown our sorrows.
  • After American Idol, we watched a couple of episodes of Sex and the City on TBS. One of them included Brady's first birthday party, where there was a scary clown. Josh promises to have no such terror-inducing costumed characters at his birthday bash in September...except Twinkie, who will be dressed as an overenthusiastic leaping beast.

April 12, 2005:
  • Today was the first of Josh's much-anticipated swim classes. It was an exciting half hour filled with songs and games, including a version of Ring Around the Rosie that ended with the babies being dunked underwater. Josh was a brave little guppy - he splashed around with abandon and didn't choke or sputter once. He seemed quite interested in the other babies, particularly a 9-month-old girl who kept grabbing his hand. What a ladies' man.
  • While mommy and baby were at swim class, Chris tackled the evil prickly bush in which our mailbox was entrenched. After much work with a trimmer and a saw, the enemy has been vanquished.
  • Later that afternoon, Chris didn't have time to come all the way home for lunch, so Renée and Josh met him at Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe for a couple of slices. Josh enjoyed the excursion, cooing and babbling at the top of his lungs from his perch in the high chair.
  • Another American Idol tonight. Yet again, Carrie and Bo make us happy; Scott and Anthony make us doubt the American voters. And Paula makes us wonder - what exactly is in that Coca-Cola cup?
I'm quite a handsome devil.

Get out of my picture, Daddy!April 11, 2005:
  • Pretty uneventful day today. Josh was in an uncommonly good mood all day long, which was a nice treat for us. We had all sorts of fun with him, doing things like playing catch, reading books, and playing the 24-inspired game "Josh Bauer Power Hour". All told, we had a great time.
  • Josh was also most compliant when it came to eating his meals. Some days are a struggle to get anything in his mouth. Not today, though. Today he ate mixed grain cereal, oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes and peaches, and he probably would have eaten even more if we had offered it to him. Guess he's determined to get out of that 38th percentile for weight.
  • We love the Fox TV show Nanny 911. If nothing else, it always makes us feel good about our parenting skills. If we ever encourage Josh to pee in the yard, saying "It's good the way you water the plants," you can report us to the proper reality TV authorities.
  • In other television news, Sesame Street just began its 36th season on the air, and there are a bunch of new parodies to look forward to. We already saw the Andrea Bocelli/Elmo duet and quite enjoyed it, and we can't wait to see the parodies of Desperate Housewives, The Apprentice, and 24, featuring a Muppet Jack Bauer. However, we are a bit disturbed that Cookie Monster is going on a health food kick. More on this as we see the episodes.

April 10, 2005:
  • Chris had to work yesterday, so it looked like we might not get to enjoy the beautiful weather. Undaunted, we decided to have a "walking picnic" during his lunch break. We met up at Staples and drove to Mountain Park Park, where we did a lap around the park while eating peanut butter sandwiches and drinking lemonade. It turned out to be a great way to have family time while still allowing Chris to eat on his break.
  • Today the whole family sat down to watch the Braves game, with its pitching duel between John Smoltz and Pedro Martinez. Smoltz was superb through seven innings, tying a Braves record by striking out 15 Mets, and Josh was elated. But then came the disastrous eighth inning, during which the Mets scored five times on the way to a 6-1 victory over the hometown boys. Needless to say, Josh was devastated over this turn of events. Fortunately, there are another 156 games left in the season, so there's a good chance the Braves will win again.
  • Anybody who gets the Sunday AJC should cut out the Mystery Coupon from the Publix ad and go redeem it. Some weeks, it's a bust -- degreasing detergent, sugar, coffee -- boring things like that. This week, though, you get a 12-pack of Publix ice cream sandwiches for a penny -- can't beat that!
It's not that easy reading 'green'

I refuse to say 'Cheese'April 8, 2005:
  • We had a great day of family fun today. Chris and Renée went on a lunch date at Frontera today while Grandma babysat Josh. We went all out on the meal: cheese dip, entreées, dessert, and even a margarita for Renée. The food was wonderful, but what really made it special was the fact that for an entire hour, we could enjoy our food without having to balance a squirming baby on our laps. Amazing!
  • Meanwhile, Josh demonstrated what a good boy he is by making a big poop for Grandma. The timing couldn't have worked out better, at least for us. If you asked Grandma, she'd probably have something different to say on the matter.
  • Later in the evening, we all headed to Target so that Renée could spend the giftcard that she had received for her birthday. An hour later, we left with quite a haul, including a new watch, Annie on DVD, some books, and a big pink floppy hat -- not to mention a gift card with thirty-two cents left on it.
  • Chris and Twinkie spied some deer in the backyard today, and though they made a run for it pretty soon afterward, Chris was able to snap a picture of them. It's sorta like a photographic Where's Waldo? -- how many deer can you spot in the picture?

April 7, 2005:
  • Josh had some exciting visitors this evening. Nana and Aunt Kate came over to eat dinner and to witness Josh acting zany in his Jumperoo. Josh graciously obliged, bouncing with the gleeful abandon that only a six-month-old can muster. He also pleased us by laughing heartily at Twinkie as well as by eating all of his dinner with no fussiness. What a good boy we have!
  • With Josh's dinner safely consumed, we could focus on our own. We had the new Buffalo Chicken pizza from Pizza Hut, which claimed in its ads to have a "zesty" sauce. Apparently "zesty" is code for "mouth-meltingly hot," because we were all downing our root beers like our tongues were on fire. Aside from that, though, the pizza was quite good.
  • For dessert, we had some treats from the Publix bakery. The key lime pie and blueberry cheesecake pie provided a fantastic finish to our food-filled fun fest.
  • Yesterday, the book featuring Zeke that Chris had ordered arrived. Even though Chris's name is not mentioned in the book (boo hoo), it's still a great read and provides some insight into what was involved with the filmmaking process. It also gives you a copy of Zeke on DVD for not much more than $10, which by itself is well worth the price. Head to Amazon.com and help support this book and Chris's ego.
Who stole my shirt?!

I'm ready for my signing bonusApril 6, 2005:
  • The weather people predicted terrible storms rolling in this evening beginning around 7pm, and since Chris was going to be at work, Renée and Josh went over to the Tingles' house to avoid being alone in the event of a power outage. Of course, the weather decided not to comply and stalled out around Alabama, so the evacuation turned out to be unnecessary. Still, Josh had a great time while at Grandma and Grandpa's, playing delightedly with a bin of Tupperware bowls and lids.
  • He also proved again that he is his Daddy's boy, laughing uproariously at an Atlanta Braves tomahawk. Apparently the tomahawk is one of the funniest things Josh has ever seen, ranking right up there with Twinkie and the slapping game, in which we all take turns smacking the table. This boy's sense of humor is as goony as Chris's.
  • Quite the shocker on American Idol tonight. As we said last night, Nikko was one of our favorites, and now he's gone. What were you thinking, America? Have you no ears? In any event, we're down to only 50% in accurate predictions. That's what we get for assuming that the voters care about things like talent and the ability to sing in tune. Silly us.

April 5, 2005:
  • Sorry for the lack of updates -- a couple of uneventful days in a row makes it tough to think of anything to go on the page. David and Chris had an afternoon of yardwork on Monday, so now the lawn doesn't look like it's suffering from some sort of alien mutant growth. David's on his way back to Annapolis on Wednesday morning, having crammed as much Grand Theft Auto playing as possible in a very short period of time.
  • Renée, Chris and Josh enjoyed a fun afternoon today. We got some Black Cherry ice cream from Bruster's and then headed to the park, where we did a lap around the track. Josh even showed Daddy how he could swing just like a big boy in the kiddie swing. Afterwards, we stopped by the library; Renée and Josh each checked out two books, and Chris got a new audio book for his car. It was a beautiful afternoon and we loved being able to enjoy it together.
  • Angry at being left home alone, Twinkie took her revenge on the Easter candy, eating two Cadbury creme eggs that Renée had been saving. Of course, chocolate can be toxic to dogs, so we've got to keep a close eye on her to make sure she doesn't have any sort of intestinal distress on the carpet. That's our goony dog for ya.
  • Split decision regarding tonight's American Idol: Renée believes Scott Savol is going home, but Chris thinks it will be Anthony Fedorov. Tomorrow's episode will reveal who is the best judge of non-talent. We did agree on our favorite performances of the evening, giving that honor to Nikko and Anwar. Those guys, as Randy Jackson would say, can blow.
I'm worn out, Daddy

Just gonna close my eyes for a second...April 2, 2005:
  • After all of the zaniness of yesterday, today was a much more subdued day. Chris spent pretty much the entire day at work, having to go to an early morning meeting in addition to his regular shift. That left Renée and Josh home alone all day. They took advantage of this time by taking a very long nap -- almost three hours! They woke up just in time to see Chris on his lunch break, although Josh later fell asleep before Chris got home for the evening. Alas -- no Daddy/baby snuggle time tonight.
  • One thing that we forgot to mention a few days ago is that Josh has tried a new food: applesauce. He loved it so much that he ate an entire jar in one sitting, slapping his high chair impatiently whenever a spoonful was slow to enter his mouth. That's the kind of feeding we like -- much better than the ones where he shrieks everytime we try to give him another bite.
  • Daylight Savings Time begins tonight. Hopefully Josh will not notice this and let us sleep an extra hour tomorrow. We're already losing one hour -- we can't afford to lose any more!

April 1, 2005:
  • These two days have been filled with activity and excitement. Hannah's 10th birthday was March 31, so we headed to the Outback in Conyers to celebrate. Hannah got many presents including a Hershey Kiss maker, the products of which we are eager to sample. Josh, meanwhile, sat in the high chair like a big boy and was fascinated by coasters.
  • Today was April Fool's Day and we played our first prank as a family. David was sitting downstairs with Chris when Renée came downstairs with Josh and a "dirty diaper." Renée expressed concern over the diaper's poopy contents, and Chris, ever the vigilant father, sniffed the poo, poked it, and tasted it! David was quite grossed out, but as you may have guessed, the poo was in fact a Reese's cup that Chris and Renée had melted earlier.
  • The three of us and David took a stroll around the neighborhood with Twinkie today. Twinkie decided to poo in someone else's lawn; being responsible pet owners, we hurried away quickly since David was stuck holding the leash. Also out for a walk were our neighbors from across the street with their 18-month-old, who is much cuter than their pit bull.
  • For dinner, Chris made stuffed shells, which were tasty, yummy, and a scrumptious delight. Scrumptrilescent, even. We all then watched The Incredibles, after which Chris and David headed out to Stonecrest to see Sin City. A good time was had by all.
I love this scruffy guy!
