The May Archives
Another day, another dollarMay 31, 2005:
  • Yay! Nick and Jenni have a wedding page on The Knot! Visit it here and learn all about the big day.
  • We had an exciting morning here, going to the library to pick up some new books for everyone and some DVDs for Josh. On the way there, we even stopped at Sonic to get some popcorn chicken and a free Powerade slush. Food and drink pleased us greatly.
  • Josh and Renée were not the only ones to be denied a walk during these last few rainy days. Twinkie has been unable to frolic in the backyard due to all of the mud. Apparently she couldn't take it any longer, because as we were heading out this morning, Renée spied a pile of doggie dookie on the ground. We couldn't get too mad at Twinkie -- the poor thing looked absolutely mortified.
  • One of the books we got from the library was called "My Daddy and Me" and was all about the fun things that a little boy does with his dad when he gets home from work. Josh must have taken the book to heart, because as soon as Chris got home at 10pm, Josh woke up, and the little guy was wired. He wanted to crawl around on the bed, read books, ride in the Baby Bjorn, play with a plastic chain -- anything but sleep. The cutest thing had to be when he discovered his shadow. He kept patting the wall and talking to it, looking around proudly after doing that. He's so smart!
  • Speaking of our little genius, Chris's dad called tonight to let Renée know he would be stopping by. After getting off the phone, Renée told Josh, "You're gonna get to see your Papa!" Josh looked up at her and asked, "Hannah?" Granted, it was probably just a fortunate combination of two syllables he frequently utters, but even his coincidences are supercool. That's our guy!

May 30, 2005:
  • It was a bleak, dreary Memorial Day today. The rain kept Josh and Renée from going on their walk this afternoon, so they had to be content staying indoors and entertaining themselves there. Later, when the rain let up, they tried to take their walk, only to find that some people were setting off fireworks up the street. Who sets off fireworks in the middle of the day?
  • Meanwile, Chris was off earning time-and-a-half at Staples all day long. There was some excitement in the form of a Staples cookout, where they made hamburgers and some very delicious extra plump hot dogs. Chris brought some food home for Renée on his lunch break, and she agreed: those were some tasty dogs.
  • Other than that, though, not much to report. Josh continues to try to climb anything in his path and has an uncanny ability to seek out the sharp corner on any object. If anybody has a spare padded room that we can borrow, let us know.
All stood up and nowhere to go

Nothing beats a good bookMay 29, 2005:
  • We spent the afternoon at Nana and Papa's for a Memorial Day cookout. The Carusos, Ramseys, Douglases and Jane Black all gathered for an afternoon of tasty food and good company. Sadly, the weather did not prove to be conducive to swimming, so Josh was not able to display his pool skills. However, he did show off all of his other new tricks that we talked about yesterday (yes, including his diaper trick).
  • One of the highlights of the evening occurred when Hannah was trying to get the new kitten Tinkerbell to play with a feather toy. Josh was eating his dinner at the time, having fun smearing the oatmeal in his hair and letting Nana style it for him. When he spied the feather toy, he started laughing hysterically, giggling every time Hannah waved it around. This continued for several minutes, giving us an opportunity to get a very cute video of our little guy. He's so silly!
  • At one point in the day, Josh was sitting near Meg when she suddenly sneezed. Josh looked up at her with alarm and then burst into tears with a comically sad expression on his face. Apparently seeing someone sneeze can be terribly traumatic for a little boy.

May 28, 2005:
  • Josh is thrilled by his new mobility. He has developed what we affectionately call the "gimp crawl," where he uses his hands and one of his legs to move along, the other leg kinda flailing behind. Even without knowing the "proper" technique, he can still fly across the floor. In fact, today we even created a new game: Josh Bowling, where Josh acts as the ball and crawls across the floor to knock over a set of pins made of blocks. He's ready for league play already.
  • He has also become quite proficient at knocking away any spoons that dare approach his mouth. Today he snatched the spoon right out of Renée's hand as she tried to feed him. Undaunted, she just got another one, letting Josh play with his prize. Of course, Josh immediately grabbed the new spoon as well, triumphantly waving them above his head like a victorious prizefighter.
  • A third trick that Josh has picked up could prove to be a messy one if we're not careful. We can no longer change Josh's diapers on his changing table -- he's far too wiggly and is likely to fling himself right onto the ground. So now we change him on the floor, which would be fine, except that Josh associates the floor with crawling. Inevitably, as soon as we get his diaper off, he rolls over and starts crawling away with his little naked booty waggling in the air. It's adorable, but it won't be if he ever decides that's when he needs to make a poopoo...
I can't find any toys to play with

I love exploring!May 26, 2005:
  • One down, one to go. Josh seemed to be all better today, but Renée was feeling much worse, having taken on Josh's symptoms as well as a few new ones. As a result, we had to back out of our plans to go to the Yellow River Game Ranch with the Atlanta Mommas. Sadly, Josh will have to wait a bit longer to meet bunnies, squirrels, and deer up close.
  • On the up side, Renée's "sick day" gave her a chance to play the Sims on our laptop as she snuffled in bed eating cough drops. This was the first time we'd gotten to play with the Makin' Magic expansion pack, and it is very cool indeed. Chris joined in the Simtastic fun, and even Josh created a Sim named "B'vv'v" complete with a trapezoidal house.
  • Josh's mobility knows no bounds. Today he was slowly and carefully cruising around the edges of his Pack & Play. Can crawling, walking, and a lively game of charades be far behind?
  • Although we haven't been enjoying perfect health this week, we HAVE been munching on a couple of tasty treats. A few days ago, Renée made Strawberry Shortcut - basically strawberry shortcakes with vanilla Jello pudding. Then yesterday, Chris made the Jello fruit punch treat (see our May 5th entry for details). Yummy! Meanwhile, Josh is experiencing the new horizons of Beech-Nut's Apple/Blueberry mix. He especially enjoys painting his eyebrows with this purple goo.
  • Network TV no longer has anything to offer us - all our shows have ended for the season. Whatever shall we do in the evenings? Take longer walks? Make movies starring Josh and his stuffed monkey? Watch some of the many DVDs we've borrowed or bought but not yet opened? Stay tuned to find out!

May 25, 2005:
  • The day did not start off so well for the family. Josh and Renée both woke up at 4:45am feeling ill -- mommy with a sore throat, baby with a runny nose. As the day wore on, Josh seemed to be feeling better, though Renée's condition did not much improve. Hopefully that late-night bowl of tomato soup will work some curative magic.
  • Josh added a new trick to his ever-expanding arsenal. He was sitting in his playpen today, playing with the mesh walls, when all of a sudden he pulled himself up to a standing position. He was so proud of himself, gabbing up a storm and stomping his feet. He stood for about five minutes before falling on his bottom with a loud thump. Is there anything this baby can't do?
  • We all watched the American Idol finale tonight -- even Josh, who was wired all evening long. Even though we wanted Bo to win, we did like Carrie, so we don't feel too bad. Her single, however, is terrible. Why are the American Idol songs always so lousy?
I'm super strong, even when I'm asleep

I'm naked and loving it!May 24, 2005:
  • Happy eight-month birthday, Josh! We brought Josh to the Target portrait studio today to get some new pictures of our little guy. Unfortunately, they don't have a cool website the way that Sears did, so we can't give you a preview of the pictures. You'll have to wait until we pick them up on June 17th to see our cute dude's newest masterpieces.
  • While we were there, Renée got to use a Starbucks gift card that she got for going to www.insiderpages.com. That's a site where you can post reviews of local establishments for other people in your community to see. Once you post five reviews, they send you a $5 gift card. Not too shabby, huh?
  • Chris mowed the lawn for the first time since encountering the snake. He was a bit jumpy (a leaf blowing down the road practically caused him to leap out of his pants), but luckily he did not see any wildlife larger than an ant.
  • After watching the final American Idol, we don't have a prediction for who's going to win. We hope that Bo wins, but it's just too close to call. Either way, it should be a fun night tomorrow.

May 22, 2005:
  • Yesterday was a day for dogs. We found a delightful treat at Ingles in the morning -- a pair of cupcakes decorated to resemble a little furry mop dog. It's tough to describe it well, and unfortunately we gobbled it down before we thought to take a picture. Suffice to say, it was both cute and delicious!
  • Later in the day, Twinkie befriended a pair of dogs who were visiting our next door neighbor. The dogs ran up and down the fence, barking at each other and generally having a great time.
  • Renée and Josh had a busy afternoon today, heading over to Grandma and Grandpa's house to have an early celebration for Grandma's birthday. They ate at Golden Corral and then returned to the house for the Worst Case Scenario game (Renée won handily) and embarrassing home movies of young Renée and Mike. Quite an enjoyable day for all.
  • Chris, on the other hand, got to deal with the police after a woman used a counterfeit credit card at Staples to make over $700 in purchases. Chris managed to get the woman's license plate, so here's hoping she finds herself behind bars soon.
  • Finally, starting on June 2, Josh will be one of the newest little gymnasts at The Little Gym. Renée signed him up for classes yesterday. He's going to be a Bug until he hits 10 months, when he can become a Beast. Lucky guy.
These socks really complete the look

I am Darth Josh, Dark Lord of the Diaper!May 20, 2005:
  • Yesterday was a day of good eats. Josh kicked off the flavorful festivities by actually feeding himself part of a Veggie Puff! While this may not sound like much to you, it's a big deal to us, considering he had previously only used them to decorate Twinkie.
  • We continued our food feast with lunch from Sonic (mmmm..... Extra Long Chili Cheese Coneys) and dinner at Frontera. Josh was especially cheerful at dinner, making sure everyone within a 20-foot radius knew that he could say, "MAMAMAMAMAMA! MAMAMAMA!"
  • When we were not gorging, the house was overrun by all things Star Wars. Chris and David had The Phantom Menace and Return of the Jedi playing on the DVD player while they played the Star Wars card game. Chris dug into the bottom of the dresser to pull out his Cantina t-shirt. Even Josh got swept up, revealing his affinity for the dark side with his saberspoon. Renée spent much of the day hiding from the dorkiness.
  • David said goodbye to us today, since he is heading back to Annapolis tomorrow. Before he left, though, he posed for a picture with the Joshman. Josh tried to keep David from leaving by clinging to the cabinet, but not even the paprika could make David stay. So sad.

May 18, 2005:
  • The day got off to an unpleasant start for Chris as he trekked to the dentist in Snellville. The diagnosis was not good. Chris needs a root canal and a crown, and not one of the cool Burger King/Star Wars crowns either. Moreover, he will have to pay large sums of money for this pleasant experience. Blecch.
  • Renée had a much better time this afternoon, cashing in her Mother's Day gift card at the spa. Her hand and foot "facials" left her relaxed and smelling very nice.
  • While Renée was being pampered, Chris, Josh and David had a boys' afternoon. Josh was introduced to the wonder that is Star Wars cards, although he slept through much of the game in the Baby Bjorn.
  • Upon Mommy's return, the men handed over the baby and broke out the toolbox. As a result, our new computer desk is now assembled and in place. Amazing - we've got desk space, and the keyboard doesn't crash to the ground at random intervals!
  • Our American Idol prediction this week was correct, and we bid goodbye to Vonzell. The Bo/Carrie final showdown? Too close to call yet, although Renée has a slight bias in favor of her fellow Alabamian. We'll be watching the final performance with bated breath.
  • Tonight is the culmination of much geeky anticipation. Chris and David are heading out to meet family and friends at Steak and Shake, then getting in line for the midnight showing of Star Wars!! Excitement! Adventure! Light sabers and robots and interplanetary wackiness, oh my! Renée is more than happy to stay home and sleep.
Nobody's gonna hold me down!

I want to go see Star Wars too!May 17, 2005:
  • Yay! David is here. Let the geekery commence!
  • Josh and Renée met some other mommies and babies for a walk at Ronald Reagan Park this morning. Josh was a happy little guy the whole time, gabbing merrily to anyone who would pay any attention to him. After the walk, though, Evil Josh surfaced. Evil Josh screamed his head off during the whole car ride, prompting Renée to stop at Staples to visit Chris and try to calm our poor baby down.
  • Chris took the opportunity to show Renée a computer desk that he liked. Renée liked it as well, so we bought it to replace our current broken desk. Chris and David will assemble it tomorrow in a funfest of manliness.
  • Tonight's American Idol did nothing to change our standing prediction of a Bo/Carrie final. Vonzell was good, but not good enough. Go Bo!
  • In less than 24 hours, Chris, David, and assorted family members will be in the middle of Star Wars. It is a great day indeed.

May 16, 2005:
  • Today Josh and Renée attended a free intro class at The Little Gym to help decide whether they want to enroll in the summer session. They played on the gymnastic mats, sang silly songs, and played with bells, bubbles, and bouncy balls. Josh even performed somersaults (with the help of the teacher)! At the end of the class, Josh got a smiley stamp on his hand. Though it was all a bit cheesy for Mommy, Josh had a great time. Will he go to more classes at The Little Gym? Stay tuned to find out!
  • Last night we had the worst time while trying to watch Desperate Housewives. Our entire street lost its power, so we had to scurry around in the dark for a candle or flashlight, only to have the lights come back on as soon as we found one. Then the TV, VCR and satellite dish all had to reset themselves, so it took about three minutes for us to get back to the show. Then (of course!) the power went out again! This continued over and over again for much of the last half of the show. Grrrrr! Stern letters are sure to follow.
  • We made a trip to the mall today to have Chick-Fil-A (gotta love those coupons for a free chicken sandwich) and to have Renée's ring go through its twice-yearly inspection and cleaning. We also were going to test out our laptop's wireless internet capabilities in the Borders hotspot, but a stabbing pain developed in Chris's tooth, requiring us to go home so he could tie a wet dishtowel around his head. The wireless test will have to wait, as will Chris's tooth -- the first available dentist's appointment is Wednesday.
Who are you calling Big Head?

You know I'm irresistibleMay 14, 2005:
  • Busy day yesterday -- so busy that we all passed out at 9:30 before we could update the page! Josh went on two walks, one with Mommy and one with Daddy. Mommy and Josh stopped off at Wendy's after their walk to take advantage of their Free Frosty Weekend. Yum yum!
  • It's been a couple of days of good eating. Last night we finally put our caramel apple kit to use, making up a tasty batch. Then this morning Renée brought home Krispy Kreme donuts. Gorging immediately commenced.
  • The reason Renée was able to pick up donuts is because she was out hitting the yard sales this morning. She visited three sales and picked up thirteen tins for her collection, a Harry Potter computer game, two books for Josh, a set of alphabet cookie cutters (missing the leeter "A"), a new shirt for herself, and a cute new Braves outfit for the Joshman. All these items cost a grand total of $7.60 -- isn't yard saling great?
  • For the third week in a row, there was no Gilmore Girls on ABC Family. Quite displeased, Josh wrote the ABC executives a stern letter, which we are confident will achieve quick results. In the meantime, we filled the void by watching The Iron Giant. Josh couldn't manage to stay up until the end, but Chris and Renée both enjoyed it.

May 12, 2005:
  • Yay! Chris got to see Josh clap today, and we even got an adorable video of our little guy clapping during lunch. Furthermore, it seems Josh has good taste -- he clapped at both the Star Wars soundtrack and The Simpsons. He is his daddy's boy!
  • We called our wedding photographer to find out about finally picking up our pictures, some 18 months after they were printed. Our luck in these matters being what it is (remember Kroger's lost honeymoon photos?), the photographer said that he could no longer find our pictures. Fortunately, he has the negatives and proof books, so he can reprint our order. But still, you'd think someone who made his living as a photographer would make an effort to take care of the pictures.
  • Chris had a scare while doing yardwork this afternoon. He was edging the driveway with the Weed Eater and hit what seemed to be a huge worm. As it turned out, it was a snake, which he then flung into the street and beheaded with a shovel. Better safe than sorry, right? Seems this particular creature was a Brown Snake, a harmless reptile that feeds on worms and small lizards. That's a relief, but we're not anxious to do any more gardening right away, and the driveway remains only partially edged.
  • Tonight was the next-to-last episode of The Apprentice, and it seems clear to us that Kendra is going to win. Tune in next week to see if our prescient powers of precognition prove potent or just positively pitiful.
Mommy, tell Daddy to lay off the suds!

This is the good lifeMay 11, 2005:
  • Chris's day off was switched from Thursday to Wednesday, so we took advantage of the swap and had a busy day of family fun. We had a very nice stroll around Mountain Park Park, spying some ducks but not the tall stork-like bird that used to reside there. We were hoping to get a picture of it so that someone could identify it for us, but it was not to be.
  • Next on the agenda was Wal-Mart. Earlier in the day we had the misfortune to run out of baby wipes and Diaper Genie refills at the same time during a diaper change. We picked up large quantities of both items, as well as some new blocks for Josh (sports themed, this time) and a cool toy called the Stand-Up Ball Blast. Josh wholeheartedly approves of the new items.
  • Renée also got a sun tea jar so we could make (what else?) sun tea. She had a glass during dinner, which was a sumptuous feast of steak, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes. We had always feared the prospect of making steak on our little grill, but it turned out to be pretty easy and delicious as well. Hurrah!
  • Josh entertained Mommy today by clapping for the first time! He did it several times, always when Daddy was out of the room. By the time Daddy rushed in to see, Josh was through with his clapping.....until Daddy left again. What a devious little guy!
  • Last but not least, Anthony Fedorov is finally gone from American Idol, and good riddance -- we've been predicting his departure since April 5th. It's gotta be tough to be Vonzell right now -- all signs point to a Carrie/Bo face-off.

May 10, 2005:
  • Renée and Josh were supposed to meet some other mommies and babies for a walk today, but for various reasons, no one else showed up. Having accomplished the feat of getting out of the house by 10:30 am, they strolled around the park on their own for a while before heading to library, where Josh got some board books for himself and a Dave Barry book for Daddy.
  • Later in the afternoon there was a frenzy of excitement. Twinkie nearly threw herself out of the window at the UPS guy who was delivering a secret gift for Chris (to be unveiled on Father's Day). A few minutes later, Twinkie was again flinging herself against the glass, this time in pursuit of the DHL guy bearing a belated surprise Mother's Day gift for Renée: pretty flowers with a Pooh vase. We can sleep soundly knowing that Twinkie is a dedicated and vicious guard dog.
  • We watched American Idol tonight, but it was a less than thrilling show. We stand beside our previous predictions.
  • Much more thrilling, however, are the new Yankee Candle tarts we're using. Cherry Lemonade and Pear Vanilla Bean both smell yummy and do an excellent job of covering up eau de Twinkie. Highly recommended.
    Where are my little friends?

    I pout better than Constantine!May 9, 2005:
    • Josh got a frighteningly early start today, waking himself and Renée at 5am when Daddy was getting ready for work. Luckily, he was up for only a short time before an extended morning nap.
    • Chris had a less than wonderful day at Staples. He was manager on duty, and all the problematic customers waited until the other manager was gone before descending on the store in a swarm. Poor Chris ended up with no lunch break and no bathroom break for eight hours. A happy tummy, his was not.
    • This afternoon we visited Nana for a belated Mother's Day celebration. We had tacos and root beer floats and enjoyed Nana's present - an updated Josh DVD. (Grandma got one too - each has a personalized cover and intro.)
    • We have discovered that Josh employs two different eating styles: public and private. While at Nana's house, he was very well mannered, and ate his whole jar of baby food without snatching the spoon from Nana or smearing goo into his hair. Compare this with his lunch at home today, where he massaged his sweet potatoes into his own eyebrows.

    May 8, 2005:
    • Happy Mother's Day! Chris and Josh teamed up to give Renée a gift card good for a day at a nearby spa, where she will receive a luxurious hand and foot treatment. Additionally, Chris has promised to go to Athens this week to pick up our long-awaited wedding pictures. Finally, as we near our second anniversary, will we have our photographs.
    • This being a day of pampering, we decided to order in our dinner this evening. We got one of the new Three Cheese Stuffed Crust pizzas from Pizza Hut, and it was very good, if a tad heavy on the tummy. The bacon on top probably didn't help that very much, but it sure was tasty. Josh, meanwhile, must have thought that today was all about Pampering, because he went through several Pampers as a result of two poopy diapers. His heart was in the right place, though.
    • Finally, we completed the gorgefest with a ice cream cake that Chris had made. Nothing spells loving like mint chocolate chip ice cream with a drizzle of chocolate, all on an Oreo crust. Mmm mmm good!
Mommy, I left a present for you in my diaper!

    Scoot over, ya big lug!May 7, 2005:
    • Congrats to Kate, who received her acceptance letter to UGA today! She is transferring in as a junior and hopes to live in Myers, former home of the lobbyrats. More on this exciting story as it develops!
    • Yesterday Josh and Renée visited Grandma at school for her class's Teacher Appreciation party. The kids already knew Josh from the pictures plastered all over Grandma's desk, and were eager to play with him. He handled the celebrity well, babbling happily during story time.
    • Before Chris went to work today, the three of us went on a family grocery run. Josh is finally old enough to sit in the shopping cart like a big kid. He was not very interested in choosing food, however, preferring to play with a bag of Oreos.
    • This evening, Renée and Josh went to the Tingles' to give Grandma her Mother's Day present. They had a nice dinner and Josh was very well behaved. He enjoyed a stroller ride around the neighborhood and then the grownups played the Worst Case Scenario board game. Renée won, perhaps because of her motherly paranoia
    • Chris is using the aforementioned Oreos to prepare a Mother's Day ice cream cake for Renée tonight. Cookies and mint choclate chip excitement! Will it live up to the hype? Tune in tomorrow to find out!

    May 5, 2005:
    • Renée made a delicious Jell-O treat today from a recipe in a magazine. Take cherry Jell-O, add strawberries, grapes, orange juice, ice cubes and boiling water, and mix it all up. Chill for two hours and top with Strawberry Cool Whip. It's divine -- a fruit punch-inspired dessert. Yummy!
    • With Mothers' Day quickly approaching, Chris ventured out to do some shopping this afternoon. As always, he wanted to give Renée her present right away, but she insisted upon waiting until Sunday. Now that's willpower. Meanwhile, it took a major effort for Chris to resist buying the Star Wars soundtrack at Target -- even though he already ordered it on Amazon.com -- just to avoid having to wait for shipping.
    • Sadly, Josh and Renée's swim class ended today. Josh received a certificate listing out his many skills, including Pool Exploration, Swimming with a Lifejacket, and even Blowing Bubbles. Look out world -- our little guy is a graduate!
    • Everyone should try to watch Animal Face-Off on Animal Planet. Each week, they pit one animal against another in a virutal battle to the death, complete with animatronic beasts and computer-generated creatures. This week, a brown bear fought a Siberian tiger, with the bear winning out in the end. It's a bizarre, wonderful show that pleases Chris greatly.
    I can out-bite a tiger

    This one's for you, Uncle Nick!May 4, 2005:
    • Yesterday was the second-to-last swim class for Josh and Renée, and maybe the last one where they actually swim, since there's supposed to be a safety class. Though he tried valiantly, Josh was unable to blow bubbles in the water. Nevertheless, he swam well and even posed for a few pictures when Daddy popped by for a visit.
    • Jay Leno appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday and told a story about how his cat was trying to kill him with a dessert fork. Quick, someone send him a copy of Zeke!
    • Huzzah! David is going to be able to come down to see Star Wars after all! Break out your decks of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game -- the geekiness shall have no end.
    • Josh entertained himself for quite some time today with a sock in one hand and a wet washcloth in the other. Apparently, the sock/washcloth combo is comedic gold to a seven-month-old.
    • Chris overslept for work this morning, turning off his 4:30am alarm and crawling back into bed. Renée tried to warn him not to do this, cryptically saying, "Do not pursue the treasure!" This phrase, taken from O Brother, Where Art Thou, is a great movie quote but a rather ineffective argument against trying to grab a few more minutes worth of sleep. Hence, Chris woke up at 5:45am for his 6:00am shift. D'oh! Only time will tell whether he continues to pursue the treasure.
    • Well, our American Idol predictions from last week did not pan out, as Scott Savol went home tonight rather than Anthony Fedorov. Still, we feel confident that Vonzell will make it to the top three but no further, and Bo and Carrie will square off for the title. Just wait and see.

    May 2, 2005:
    • We are one step closer to planting our flowers. Today we started mixing some good planting soil with the very clay-like soil around the mailbox. After another three or so bags of topsoil, we'll be ready to plant! Now all we need is a big stone UGA bulldog to hang out with our broken gnomes.
    • In preparation for his role as ring bearer, Josh tried on his nice suits today. He has a white one and a dark one. One of them will surely still fit by July. Isn't he handsome? Mothers of Helen, Georgia, lock up your baby girls!
    • Tonight we went into couch potato mode, watching Nanny 911, 24, and The Daily Show. Zell Miller was the guest of honor on the Daily Show. Though we watched with much anticipation, he failed to challenge Jon Stewart to a duel.
    Rubber ducky, you're the one!

    You don't stack them, Daddy -- you eat them!May 1, 2005:
    • Remember last week when we started spending the baby shower gift card? We finished it off today, buying Josh a very cool set of alphabet blocks by Fisher-Price. Every block has a little interactive item inside that begins with the letter on the block (for example, the A has an airplane on a spring, the B has some dangling bananas, and so on). They're quite nifty and Josh had a good time banging them together and chewing on them.
    • We took a family walk this evening, which was nice until the big pretty dog on the corner decided it was a ravenous wolf that wanted to eat little boys. Suddenly it started stalking us, stopping only when yanked back by the chain that tethered it to the ground. Pretty creepy.
    • Culinary disaster was narrowly averted this afternoon. Chris came back from his weekly shopping trip to Publix only to realize that a bag containing mangos, pears and a bag of frozen mixed fruit was not among the rest of the groceries. He quickly returned to the store, where an employee had placed the bag in the beer section to keep it cold. Thankfully, our dinner of smoothies and sandwiches can now proceed as planned.
    • Finally, some exciting news from Chicago. Nick and Jenni want Josh to be the ring bearer at their wedding in July! We had already found the perfect wedding outfit for the little guy to wear, so expect to see pictures soon of Josh in his white tux.
