Roleplay
Alright, I am going to assume no one knows what roleplay is. So let us start here. Roleplay: A person plays a role, typically uncharacteristic to their real life persona. This "role" is often fun for the player, but be aware just as in life, bad ground is encountered and must be dealt with. Further more, this is not merely "chatting" it is beyond idle talk...there are things to be done, for slaves there are chores and serving, for Warriors quiva's need sharpening etc, you need to focus on where you do things, and act how your character would act. Now, a key element of roleplay is description. Description: The act of painting pictures with words. No this does not mean @}-,-`-- is a rose. No no my friend. Paint the picture. The rose had flowing petals that opened up hungrily to rink in the light offered to it, the sweet fragrance assaulting your senses, the ruby petals soft as silk, the stem a sweet emerald, thorns offering a cruel bite to any who touched it. See? Paint the picture. So, we know what roleplay is, we know what description is. Now we come to a third element...realism. A man cannot swallow himself whole, a slave cannot fly unless she's thrown really hard and even then she'll fall. Further more, a person cannot talk to another person who is on the other side of a Wagon Camp. If you are in a City, you cannot expect to have a discussion with a Man in his Cylinder, likewise, in Camp if you are outside at the main fire you cannot converse with a Man in his wagon. It simply is not plausible. Nor do you send a slave out to the middle of the plains to offer a serve, not only is it near impossible, it is dangerous. When something is done, it should take a realistic stance in what is done and how it happens, it should be done according to what is plausible. Read the posts of others, or at least browse over them so you know where they are and what is going on. Keep the amount of things done in a singular post to a realistic number. In a spar, they are allowed 5 actions, including movements. So assuming they do nothing but walk, they can go 5 paces, at 3 feet per pace, that is 15 feet. So not too bad, but keep this in mind, do not run a hundred yards in a single post, and slaves...do not expect to clean an entire wagon out in one post, especially if it is particularly messy as Kassar FM wagons tend to get. So, description, we know what roelplay is, and we know what realism is. You should now know how to roleplay realistically. Remember, this is not just chat, this is roleplay. Have fun, and enjoy it. Picture your typing as self-improvement, you type bigger, better, you learn more and you improve your creative writing skills. Think outside the box. What I mean by this is if something happens that isnt in the books, don't automatically shun it "because its not in the books". There are a million things that could be on Gor that wasn't mentioned. As well as things that actually happen in online Gor that are accepted without question. Obviously, some common sense will have to be used when making use of this, but I feel it will allow a deeper sense of RP without losing the realism. This advisory is not meant to be rude, but an attempt to explain the proper way things should be done. Take it for what it is, do your research on what you do, if You wish to rp a leather maker, or healer...research it and learn the tricks and tools of the trade...and above all enjoy it when you are done. |
