Ahh the supply wagon...
When in doubt... when you don't know where something would be kept... or where to put something... it's in the supply wagon, the source of most all things for the resourceful kajirae of the Kassars. Remembering that the wagon is square with the round, bosk-hide tent in the center that forms the storage area, the wagon will have the deck area around the tent for the storage of things that don't need protection from the weather, such as extra barrels and the larger buckets. Inside the round structure is a combination storage area/workshop. To your left as you enter is a long workbench with shelves beneath and a window flap above. The table serves as a craft area with things stored below such as baskets, candle molds, extra wax and wicks, jars of needles, buttons, spindles of sinew for stitching, scrap leather, paints, rence paper, things used for projects and the like. Small jars of the intensely concentrated scarring pigments and piercing gear: sterile needles, bottles of antiseptic and the tiny nose rings for kajirae and free women. To maximize the utility of the rest of the area, shelves line the inside of the round tent in a hexagonal fashion. Where each angle of shelving intersects the next, small crossbars are attached to the joints to provide a ladder to make the top shelves reachable for the diminutive kaji. On the shelves you would find extra clothing such as leathers and tunics, camisks, dancing silks, and the four items that make a girl clad kajir: the chatka, curla, koora and kalmak, and perhaps the odd kes for kajirus. Further into the wagon will be the piles of extra furs so necessary to endure the cold wintering in the North as well as cured leather, stores of bone needles, larger baskets and extra pots, buckets, botas, boxes of extra dishes, goblets, bowls. Cans of tharlarion oil for the lanterns, some ropes, bolas. Down the center of the open space would be a narrow line of stored crates piled upon one another. Here you would find extra bottled goods that do not fit in the kitchen pantry or the cool room such as ka-la-na, bottled ale and anything else that the Wagon Peoples might seek in trade from traveling merchants. |
