SOUL SURVIVOR?
(The scene opens up on a bright, sunny day Clarksdale, Mississippi. We see
Scott "The Boy" Hellings casually walking along a highway. Walking behind him is Nurse Laurier, who does not appear
to be enjoying herself. The Boy pauses when he comes to an intersection.)
HELLINGS-
"Here I am in Clarksdale, Mississippi at the crossroads of highways 61 and 49. This place might
not mean anything to some people, but to others it means a great deal. Legend has it that
many years ago, the great blues musician Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil, possibly in this very spot. In return, he was
given unsurpassed musical ability. Is it real? Does it mean anything? No one knows for sure.
But one thing I do know for sure is that, if it is true, than Johnson got one heck of a deal. The guy
has influenced everyone from Keith Richards to Bob Dylan and is still considered one of the greatest musicians of all time.
It must be nice to be remembered that way; to be so highly revered.
I hope I can one day
say the same thing about my career in the ring, but sometimes things don't work out the way you plan them. Sometimes life
throws you a curveball. For me that curveball is named Mercy. He is a man who just will not let go of his past, who seems content
to drag me down with him. Now whenever I am forced to step into that ring with him I feel as though I am tarnishing my great legacy. I feel somehow
cheated in fact. I know that all my fans, all The Boy Scouts, consider it a crying shame whenever I face off against Mercy. I mean, if for no other reason than the
fact that it forces them to sit through another Mercy match. Yuck! If only I could somehow convince
others that it really isn't worth fighting Mercy any more."
(The camera focuses on Nurse Laurier, standing behind Scott.)
NURSE LAURIER-
"You better be going somewhere with this. I can't believe I let you talk me into going along
with this stupid trip."
HELLINGS-
"Oh it's not stupid. I'm here to make a point. And hopefully someone is listening. See Mercy and I have already competed
in some epic battles. You can name any epic confrontation - David vs. Goliath, Ali vs. Frazier, Sitting Bull vs. Custer - and then coming in somewhere
after that is Hellings vs. Mercy. I know it, you know it, the whole damn world knows it! But that was then and this is now. What are you trying to prove Mercy? Are you trying
to convince yourself that you still have it what it takes? Stuck in a midlife crisis perhaps? Well I got news for you pal, your little comeback is already on life support and at
Supremacy I am going to make sure it flatlines!
Oh, I know you claim you are here to get back at Rob Gamble for the way he mistreated you in the days of the old RWW, but is that really it?
Are you sure you aren't here just to make my life miserable? Because if that is why you are than mission accomplished Mercy - you have made my life a living hell. It's not that I can't beat you because we know
I've already beat you 3,247 times before, but I just can't be bothered. It's kinda like beating up an old man because you can't brag about it afterwards. It certainly isn't an impressive victory! Need I remind you that
I am the one and ONLY UBERstar!? I have more important things to do around here than get tangled up in your little vendetta mission! Go after Rob Gamble if you must, but leave me out of it. I refuse to be
the collateral damage in your little war with Rob. But answer me this Mercy: where does it end?"
NURSE LAURIER-
"Ugh. I ask myself that question every day."
HELLINGS-
"Will it end after you beat Rob? Are you sure you won't come looking for me because of something I did to you years ago? You really need to learn to let go of your grudges. You can live in your past all you want, but I look ahead. You may have been on top of your game years ago, but that was then and this is now. And, believe me, the NOW belongs to The Boy! Besides, going after me
is a big mistake and does nothing but throw a giant monkey wrench into your plans. Ever read 'The Art of War?' There's a great quote
in there that says 'so in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.' You see? You came upon a crossroads just like this but you took the wrong turn and went down a road that will lead
you to your demise. You can't win now because you are going up against me and, as we all know by now, I am The Boy and that does mean I am The Best! You know what? Forget how great I am for a second - and I know it must be hard - but just think about what
you are doing here; you are trying to take me out, yet Rob Gamble doesn't care for me either. Would it not be in your best interest to ensure that all of Rob Gamble's enemies are healthy? I guess you never were the brightest guy in the locker room, huh?"
NURSE LAURIER-
"You got it all wrong! I don't think Mercy wants to fight you, I think you are both being forced into this match!"
HELLINGS-
"That's naive. Of course Mercy wants to face me; there's nothing he wants more. You don't come looking for revenge against just one ghost of your past and pass up the opportunity
to take out a second. Mercy can tell me whatever he wants, but I won't believe a word he says. Never have, never will. If nothing else, I know he'd like to send a message to Rob Gamble
through me. But I won't let that happen. Mercy is not only bitter he's also quite delusional if he thinks he can take out me, The Marquee Player, the Franchise Saviour and the Number One Money Maker! But I think
there's already quite the precedent for me beating Mercy, so that's nothing new. I applaud Mercy for believing in his abilities the way he does, really I do. But sometimes you need to realize that you're not that good and
you never were. That time is at hand."
NURSE LAURIER-
"I don't think you should overlook Mercy. He's given you headaches in the past, hasn't he?"
HELLINGS-
"You know what? Why don't you worry less about my (making quotation marks with his fingers) 'headaches' and worry more about
this injured neck!? Look, if you don't believe me then there is nothing I can say to convince you otherwise. All I can say to you is to
watch what happens at Supremacy. You'll see that Mercy is clearly outmatched. There's a wonderful Latin phrase I like to live by: res ipsa loquitur. Basically it means
'the thing speaks for itself.' Well that is exactly what I am going to do at Supremacy when I prove to everyone that Mercy is a has-been! And maybe then I will finally
rid myself of this annoyance. But...I am aware this is the Christmas season. So, in the holiday spirit I am in a bit of a giving mood. That is why I am here: to offer Mercy a deal."
HELLINGS-
"You brought me here for this?"
HELLINGS-
"Well, I could have done this from my hotel room, but I feel visuals are much more powerful."
NURSE LAURIER-
"I hate you."
HELLINGS-
"So here it is Mercy: if you SOMEHOW beat me at Supremacy, I will promise to aid you in your quest to take out Rob Gamble. That's right - I'll do whatever it takes
to help you out along the way. But...if I win? (An evil smirk comes across The Boy's face). If I win, you owe me one favour. That's it, just one. A favour which I can call upon at any time.
So what do you say Mercy? Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil along these crossroads, are you prepared to do the same? Are you willing to do what it takes to possibly
achieve everything you have ever wanted in life? Want to be a superstar once again? You know that if you were to win that with me your side, well...no one would be able to stop you. Think it over and
get back to me. Normally your chances of winning would be zero so there would be no point in accepting my offer but this time? Well I can't completely guarantee a victory because of the intangible factor that is my injured neck. You just never know what might happen in our match. You should know this though: if you do not take my offer, well than I can't be held responsible for what I do to you. In the meantime, I'll be waiting. But I gotta tell you I feel that, unless my neck doesn't hold up, I will be walking out of Supremacy as a winner. Just like I always do. Why? Because I want to, because I CAN!"
