| 10 April 2004 Millennia Skools Floorball and NUS Nemesis created the upsets in the play-offs by beating their more fancied opponents in the Men's Quarter-Final play-offs. While Swiss Club RedFlamingoes beat NTU Hurricanes 10-2, and Moosemen overcame Team Tazs Arowana 9-2 in two bad-tempered matches, Millennia Skools Floorball edged out Millennia Skools Innebandy 6-5 after a penalty shootout, and NUS Nemesis overcame a depleted Nhac Tre No.1 side by 4-3. The Swiss Club Red Flamingoes-NTU Hurricanes match-up turned ugly as the match wore on, with many bench penalties given. It was even worse for the Moosemen-Team Tazs Arowana match, as rowdy scenes erupted towards the end of the match, with many 2 and 5 minute bench penalties given to both sides, as well as Match Penalties.. It was drama of a different kind in the match between the 2 Millennia Skools teams. MS Innebandy took a 3-0 lead before MS Floorball pulled one back at the end of the 1st period. When MS Innebandy regained their 3 goal advantage in the 2nd period, all seemed lost for MS Floorball, until a second goal reduced the arrears again, going into the final period. A relentless MS Floorball side kept on attacking in the final period to keep their hopes alive, and were duly rewarded with 2 goals to equalise, and could have gone on to win with a little more luck. The match went into a penalty shootout, with more drama as well. In the mandatory 5 penalty shots, no goals were scored as MS Innebandy were woefully off-target, while MS Innebandy goalkeeper Rajiv Makalingam produced a few good saves. The match went into sudden death penalty shots. MS Innebandy scored theirs, but MS Floorball equalised. MS Innebandy's next attempt was saved, but MS Floorball netted theirs to enter the semi-finals. There, MS Floorball will meet NUS Nemesis, who overcame Nhac Tre No.1, who were without a number of their key players due to the Easter holidays, including top scorers Kristian Olsson and Niclas Erlandson. They still put up a good fight but could not overcome an unrelenting NUS Nemesis side. |
