| 13/14 March 2004 Millennia Skools Innebandy took another step nearer the Men's Western Conference title after they held Nhac Tre No.1 to a 3-3 draw. In fact, they could have even won the title if they had kept their 2-0 lead, but eventually had to come from behind to snatch the equalising goal that was hotly disputed by Nhac Tre No.1. MS Innebandy proved that size did not really matter that much. After last week's victorious David and Goliath encounter (based on reputation), this week they pulled off another David and Goliath upset (based on size). The title miss was because closest challengers, Moosemen were also held to a 2-2 draw by Team Tazs Arowana in a later match. However, the win maintained MS Innebandy's 8-point cushion at the top, and they will clinch the Western Conference title if they beat Team Tazs Arowana next Saturday. Moosemen cannot afford to drop any further points in their last 3 matches if they hope to clinch 2nd placing in the Western Conference. In other matches in the Men's League, Swiss Club Red Flamingoes extended it lead in the Eastern Conference to 5 points with a crushing 10-1 victory over Termites, who now drop to the bottom of the Western Conference after MS OSB beat Tampines East Knights 2-1. It was Knights' 8th straight defeat, and they remain the only pointless team in the whole League. NTU Hurricanes beat NUS Saints 4-2 to stake its claim on a play-off spot, while NUS Nemesis also pushed hard after overcoming Millennia Skools Floorball who were missing a number of key players. MS Floorball was missing regular defenders Calvin Tan and Arumaaran as well as keeper Pierre Boudville, who had been in outstanding form of late, and also centre Mohd Hairul and top scorer Tan Cheen Ming. Second keeper Donald Wan was also out, so in stepped standby goalkeeper, former national keeper K Shashidaran into his first match for the year as keeper, after having converted to a forward. It wasn't a happy match for him, as MS Floorball crashed 2-7. Ironically, his last match as a goalie was also against NUS Nemesis in the Cup last year, in which Skools Floorball lost 1-6. Meanwhile, IIVP Ladies' Champions, NTU Tempest, were the first team eliminated from this season's play-offs, after they lost 1-7 to NUS Titans in the Ladies' Division. Orionz and MS Floorball Youth did their chances no favour either after they both had to settle for a 2-2 draw. It was MS Floorball Youth's first point of the season. Orionz's chances of play-off qualification now looks to rest on goal difference in the last 2 important round of matches, but NUS Jupitans still look favourite to take the second spot in the Eastern Conference even though they lost 0-7 to Moosettesz. The win by Moosettesz, meanwhile, clinched the team the Eastern Conference title, as expected. NUS Titans look runaway favourites to lift the Western Conference title, but it will be a crucial last 2 matches for both MS OSB Owls and Swiss Club Pink Flamingoes, after they both shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. Both teams face NUS Jupitans, whom they should both beat, but their other match is against Moosettesz (Owls) and NUS Titans (Flamingoes). With a 2-point difference, Flamingoes would have to beat NUS Titans to claim that second spot. |
