In the Match of the Week between Team Tazs Arowana and NUS Nemesis, Tazs repeated its come-from-behind victory from last year's 3rd/4th Placing play-off, by scoring two late goals to triumph by 4-3.  R Saravanan scored two goals, while Noorkhairi Samsudin bagged the winning goal in the 56th minute.
Both NUS teams lost on the day, as NUS Saints were beaten  5-2 by defending champions Nhac Tre No.1.  NUS Saints made a fight of it after trailing by 4-1 at the end of the 1st period.
NTU Hurricanes scored an early goal after only 29 seconds, the fastest goal in the League this season, and a goal feast was expected.  However, it failed to materialise as no further goals were scored for the rest of the 59.5 minutes.
There were plenty of goals at the 3 matches at Millennia Institute.  MS Floorball started things off with a 7-1 win over Tampines East Knights, but should have scored much more given the hatful of chances that they missed.  The goal feast continued in the following match between Swiss Club Red Flamingoes and MS Innebandy.  A shock was on the cards as the youngsters from MS Innebandy led 2-1 at the end of the 2nd period.  However, Swiss Club Red Flamingoes shook off any signs of bird flu and went on a flight of fancy in the last period to finish with a 6-3 victory to show off its fine plumage.  MS OSB also took a shock 2-1 lead at the end of the 1st period against favourites Moosemen.  However, Moosemen put its house in order over the next 2 periods to win by a landslide 11-3 scoreline.
With the first weekend of matches over, and the chance to see all the teams in action, the top 4 favourites would seem to be Moosemen, Nhac Tre No.1, Swiss Club Red Flamingoes and  Team Tazs Arowana.  NUS Nemesis seem to be a pale shadow of last year's victorious Pesta Sukan team in this early stage of the competition.  MS Floorball seem lightweight compared to last season's team, and will need to improve on their finishing.  The quick passing youngsters from MS Innebandy will do quite well against some of the teams, but will have to improve on their defending.  NUS Saints had a reasonably good performance against defending champions Nhac Tre No.1, and could spring some surprises.  NTU Hurricanes, Termites, Tampines East Knights and MS OSB seem to lack the firepower to do really well in the tournament.  However, it is only the first weekend of the League, with 10 more rounds over the next 9 weeks, including the bumper weekend next week with all teams playing on both Saturday and Sunday.  The credentials of the teams will become clearer at the end of next week.
