| 6/7 March 2004 Swiss Club Red Flamingoes and Moosettesz became the first teams to qualify for the play-offs after maintaining their perfect starts with another victory. Moosettesz trounced NTU Tempest 8-0, while the Flamingoes overcame their main rivals in the Eastern Conference, Nhac Tre No.1. In a disappointing anti-climax, the supposed clash of the titans between the "perfect" teams fizzled out even before it began with a depleted and weakened Nhac Tre No.1 going down 3-10 to Swiss Club Red Flamingoes. Nhac Tre's Kristian Olsson did not have the support of his regular strike partner Niclas Erlandson, and fielded stand-in keeper Anders Krogh in goal, while Red Flamingoes were at full strength for this crucial tie. The Red Flamingoes thus become runaway favourites to win the Men's Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, Millennia Skools Innebandy took a stranglehold on the Men's Western Conference title when it shrugged off the attempts of Moosemen to get back into the picture with a 2-0 victory, thus extending the gap at the top to 8 points, and showing everybody that they have come a long way since their opening day defeat to Swiss Club Red Flamingoes. This was MS Innebandy's 6th successive win, and it was a thoroughly impressive one to prove that they have arrived, especially in defence. It was another impressive performance from MS Innebandy keeper Rajiv Makalingam. For Moosemen, it was their third loss in a disapponting campaign. It was overall a good weekend for the Millennia Skools teams. MS Floorball also proved their mettle with an upset 4-1 win over Team Tazs Arowana, despite fielding a weakened line-up due to injuries. Tazs had the better chances but could not overcomea resolute MS Floorball defence, except for its single equalising goal through a defensive lapse straight from the face-off after MS Floorball's opening goal. MS OSB also secured its first win of the season with a 4-2 win over Termites. In the battle of the universities, NUS Nemesis came out trumps with a 2-1 win over NTU Hurricanes, while in the remaining match, NUS Saints came out victorious by 4-3 against the pointless Tampines East Knights. In the Ladies' Division, the clash of the itans saw NUS Titans beating NUS Jupitans 7-1, while MS OSB Owls thrashed MS Floorball Youth 10-1. The consolation for MS Floorball Youth was that they finally scored their first goal of the season. In the remaining Ladies' match, Swiss Club Pink Flamingoes demolished Orionz 7-2, in an impressive third period display. While both NUS Titans and MS OSB Owls stand atop the Western Conference on 9 points, Swiss Club Pink Flamingoes are breathing down their necks on 7 points and have crucial ties against both teams to come. NTU Tempest however look doomed for any play-off spot. In the Eastern Conference, the question is who will join Moosettesz. NUS Jupitans are on 5 points but have 3 tough ties remaining. Orionz and MS Floorball Youth face each other next and then have ties against NTU Tempest so they are still in with a shout for that second spot. |
