Well, it turned out that Blaze just didn't like the brand of feed dad had switched her to. I wouldn't have eaten it, either. It just didn't look right. I don't think she's spoiled, she just has good taste. Well, she is spoiled, but in this case it's just her refined pallette. I think.
Yesterday Blaze just wouldn't eat. It really worried us. She had also run quite a bit (for no apparent reason) and her leg was sore. We gave her some Butte and her leg is okay now, and she's wanting to eat again. Of course, we have her on a strict hay-only diet right now.
We put a basketball in the pasture with Jeaux today and he loves it! Really funny to watch. Now we want to get him a bigger one. It's really gotten his mind off of pestering Blaze for a while (yipee!). Speaking of, she's really doing better. Her gait hasn't changed at all from what I can tell by looking at her stride. One very knowledgeable person we talked to couldn't even tell she was hurt! She'll still hold that leg up, though, and isn't too keen on using it, but we're happy with her progress. In the meantime, we're goint to try and breed her when she comes in next! I'm so happy!
I know she'll have a beautiful foal. We figured this would be a good time to breed her, while she's 'out of commission.'
Well, I'm back from my trip! I was with my friend Kristi for three days, and I had a great time but boy was it good to see Blaze again and see how well she's doing! We got the joint supplement in. It's nasty stuff that even Blaze will turn her nose up at, and that's saying something! She'll only do that with one other thing: Butte (pain reliever for horses). Anyway, it's in powdered form, and she gets a scoop in the morning with her feed, and then a scoop with her dinner.
Well, got some bad news about Blaze. What else is new? She may not heal until six months from now, and as the vet wouldn't give any definite answers (because there is no definite answer to give) we don't even know if her leg will ever be the same again. Dangit. I can't STAND not riding her or seeing her run without being in pain for that long. It's really gonna by torture. We are doing everything we can, though, and getting a
Sloppy Jeaux's mother died when he was just a little bitty thing, so he was hand-raised by people. It's easy to see, then, why he thinks either he's a human or humans are horses, too. Well, he's wrong. I really wouldn't have a problem with this if it weren't for the behavior that comes with it. He will eagerly try to 'play' with us by bucking at us, nipping and biting at us. We may also have a little 'dominance disorder' with him at the moment. Whenever I go out to the pasture, it's bite, nip, bite, ears back at me, bite. And just for those of you who didn't know it- horse bites HURT! Just today I was really waken up to the fact that we have a problem with our Jeaux. Don't get me wrong now, he's sweet, but Houston, we have a problem. I had just given Jeaux two slices of apple, nothing wrong there....
Last night the horses got out through a weak spot in the fence and got on the road. There were these two cars coming, and Mackie got hit and killed. One hit Blaze, too, but all she got out of it was a swollen ankle and a plug of felsh out of her head. Mackie was able to make it back to the barn, but had to be put down because there was too much damage. Jeaux is okay, thank the Lord, but I can't believe Mackie died. I woke up and the horse that had been there for so long, from the beginning, one of our first, was just dead. I wish I could just keep Blaze locked up in her stall where I know she'lls always be safe, but I can't. Besides, she can bust the lock when she wants to.
