Jeaux's Jubilee...
Jeaux's Jubilee contains horse and cowboy poetry. All of the work here is original and copyrighted by Jeaux himself (with a little help from me, anyway. Horses can't type.) You will not find the polished version of anything here, sad to say, because there are too many 'writing theifs' roaming about on the net.
THE OLD BARN

There's a brand new barn still smelling sweet of fresh-cut pine,
and seventy acres of tall green grass behind.

The horses there, they rear and snort,
fire flaming in their minds,
Galloping on dark, black dreams
carried away upon the winds.

Time wore on, as it will do, and carried them off long and far.
And now that sweet new barn looks like it's been around since the Civil War.

One by one the champion mares were turned out to the pasture.
The stallions have seen better days and the old roan's china eyes have finally lost their luster.

They all wasted away and faded beyond the reach of time.
But they still run on dark, black dreams
to a bran-new barn still smelling sweet of fresh-cut pine and seventy acres of tall green grass behind.
ALL AT THE HORSE SHOW

The shift of the saddle as the stallion heaves,
The sigh of the wind as the sky breathes,
The thrill of the ride and the cantering gate,
all at the horse show, so don't be late.

The blistering heat, the sweltering sun,
the whinnies and cries of nerves come undone,
The cheers of the crowd when the ribbon is blue,
all at the horse show and the time is near due.

The chains and the shoes of both stallion and mare,
The bright-colored ribbons tied into their hair,
The talk of big names, and stud fees, and stride,
all at the horse show where smooth is the ride.

The clanging and clatter of horse hoofs on steel,
The starting of engines, the tires creating a rumbling feel,
The thoughts of returning to pastures of clover,
All on the road home, for the horse show is over.
BLAZE'S TRAILER-TRAINING: A LIMMERIC FOR MY GIRL

Come on Blazer! Just get in the trailer!
Or Jeaux will come and you'll be starvin'.
It's safe and it's free,
So if you ask me,
I'd say it's a pretty good bargain.
(Don't ask. Just don't.)
FOR STORM: MY GIRL OF GOLDEN HEART

Black as night and heart of gold,
Racing with thunder underfoot,
With her mind as pen and spirit as ink,
Rewrote how her own story was told.

And though she once was so untame,
She weathered through it all.
She took me into her heart and soul,
And I did her the same.
THE STARWAY: DEDICATED TO MACKIE

They climb the Stars on wings of gold.
They drink the warm, sweet moonlight.
They run and gallop like mavericks so wild,
Over the plains of glory untold.

I love you, Mackie. SPIRITS NEVER DIE.
COYOTE'S LEGACY

The wind carries away the eerie cries,
Shattered among the stars,
Singing of black dreams,
Of blood spilling unto the skies.

The icy waters are stained red with strife,
There are prints of gnarled claws upon the ground,
From weary feet now caked with dirt,
For death is a way of life.

The Coyote's Hour nears, their gleaming eyes I see.
A night trembling with songs of killing,
For this is the Coyote's Legacy.

Sing them away tonight... fear the Coyote's Legacy.
IF I TRIED TO TELL YOU: DEDICATED TO BEAUX AND MACKIE
If I tried to tell you how much you were loved, and how much I cried,
If I attempted to share the thoughts of those who were standing there when you died,
I would fall back to where we began,
Thinking of you as you bucked and ran,
Over the pasture where you would roam,
I'd think of you there- and I'd be home,
If I tried to tell you.
WHEN I REMEMBER YOU: DEDICATED TO BEAUX
When I remember you, I think of your mane whipping in the wind.
I think of your strong hooves pounding into the ground again.
I think of your little whispers like a silent, flowing stream,
And for just a moment it's like you've come back for me.

You'll climb the stars with strength anew,
You gallop over the green once more,
----------------------------------------
When I remember you.

ETCHED IN STONE
Long before the rising sun,
In a young world when the ancient runes were new,
A Destiny was carved into a cold and dying star,
And your fate was written for you.

The flames perished, the star burned low.
And yet what was there left to see?
Written deep as the length of the sword, dark as the starless night,
Was the story meant to be.

But now in the dead of night, the mountain seems to fade.
Silent guide and lone reliance,
Remembered hope and forgotten fear,
Gone now is the stone defiance.

But how long can you veil the truth?
And from who is it to hide?
Forgotten hope and remembered fear,
This is the last ride tonight.

Chase the wind just one last time,
And remember you are not alone,
For you will join forgotten ghosts,
And you must for it is etched in stone.
