As a teacher of social studies, I should:

• Connect social studies to the lives of my students
• Connect social studies to other areas of the curriculum
• Guide my students into investigating the "how" and "why" and not just memorization of facts
• Teach for understanding, rather than for memorization
• Reflect on and improve my teaching
