| The 150 residents of the area had previously lived in shanty houses along the side of a road which the government was now expanding. For most, this would be their first time to live in a sturdy house with a cement floor and a roof. The project consisted of the construction of 40 homes, and over the course of the week, we built we were able to help in all stages of house building, including making bricks out of sand, mixing and pouring cement, digging and carrying bags of rock and mud for the foundation, painting beams, sifting sand, and many other tasks. |
