MY RIGHTS

I am not to blame for being beaten
and abused.
I am not the cause of another’s
violent behaviour.
I do not like it or want it.
I do not have to take it.
I am an important human being.
I am a worthwhile woman.
I deserve to be treated with respect.
I do have power over my own life.
I can use my power to take good care
of myself.
I can decide for myself what is
best for me.
I can make changes in my life if
I want to.
I am not alone. I can ask
others for help.
I am worth working for and changing
for.
I deserve to make my own life safer
and happier.

Who we are
: We are four social work students from Memorial
University of Newfoundland. This website is part of a social marketing project
we are currently involved in. We believe that domestic violence is a serious
issue that must not be ignored, and we hope this website will contribute
to Breaking The Silence.

Mission Statement
: It is our belief that everyone has
the right to feel safe and have the freedom to live their lives without the
threat of violence. It is also our belief that no one has the right
to control, manipulate, harm, or threaten another person.
We hope to raise
awareness regarding domestic violence across the province and throughout the
world and also to provide information and support to the survivors who experience
the horror first hand.
