The Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts was founded in Rome in the year 1886 on February 21 by Blessed Fr. Simpliciano of Nativity, OFM - a Franciscan Minor Alcantarine who opened a hospice for young wayward girls of Rome.
The Congregation expanded and reached the Philippine Archipelago in the year 1976, opened a school in order to reach out to families in the surrounding areas, helped in Parish work, that is, Sunday catechism class, feeding program in the urban poor areas, administering charitable institutions (orphanages), and teaching religious education in school.
Their mission is to reach out to the farthest end of the world and the SFSC or FSSH were now sending to Italy, South America, India, Korea, Philippines, Poland and Romania. In the Philippines, they can be found in Paranaque (Metro Manila), Tagaytay City, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan (Central Luzon), Banilad and Guadalupe (Cebu City), Sorsogon (Bicol Region), Borongan and Dolores (Eastern Samar), and General Santos City(South Cotabato).
Here in Bulacan, the sisters established the Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHMS), a Catholic School for boys and girls with the aim of having an apostolate for the "sanctification and formation of children and young people through education." It is located at San Jose del Monte in a land donated by the Guanzon Family.
The sisters inspired by their love for children especially the underprivileged ones also founded the Mary Immaculate Children's Center, Inc. in the year 1988. It is an institution serving up the abandoned and orphaned female children and youth.
