The Sisters of the Divine Shepherd is a Diocesan Religious Congregation founded on December 10, 1989 in the Diocese of Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines by Most Reverend Cirilo R. Almario, Jr., D.D., now Bishop Emeritus of Malolos. He was assisted in the congregation's formative stage by Sr. Ma. Fatima R. Senarillos, and Sr. Ma. Imma Conception A. Masocol two formerly professed religious sisters of the Handmaids of the Holy Trinity. Providing assistance were novices: Sr. Ma. Agnes N. Alberastine, Sr. Ma. Angelica A. Alincomot, Sr. Ma. Bernadette 0. Mahomoc, Sr. Ma.Cecilia Banuelos, Sr. Ma. Catherine R. Cariquitan and Sr. Ma. Monica Dolorosa Pacot with three postulants, Sr Ma. Jesusa L. Bona, Sr. Ma. Therese Arcilo and Sr. Ma. Joseph Almanzor.
We occupied the classrooms at the second floor of the Immaculate Conception School for Boys building for five months since there were no classes held yet. On May 1990 we
transferred to the other side of the building which was formerly occupied by the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit.
The Bishop entrusted to us the social service apostolate, thus, our first assignment was to serve the aged at the Emmaus House located in Caingin, Malolos, Bulacan. There, we shared our time and talents in taking care the sick and the dying. We extended our support most especially in spiritual and moral aspects.
On May 16, 1990, another apostolate was launched. The Caritas Malolos located within the compound of the Cathedral was blessed and opened by Most Rev. Cirilo R. Almario, Jr., D.D. With the help of some volunteer doctors, dentist and a nurse the sisters were able to help the poor avail free medicines and check-ups every Wednesday.
To be with the poor was our thrust, so we continued reaching out to people most especially those living along the railroad tracks. Most of them are not church goers so the sisters catechized them. They served snacks which they themselves prepared. They often went every Saturday afternoon to promote their apostolate.
With God's abundant blessings the sisters were able to procure a house and lot at 15 Kabihasan St., Caniogan, Malolos, Bulacan. They made it a harbinger for the streetchildren and the abandoned ones. It was blessed and opened by Most Rev. Cirilo R. Almario, Jr., D.D. on October 25, 1995. Currently, they are attending to almost seventy children.
The congregation has a threefold aim: to see the Glory of God, to live up to their own sanctification and to help ensure the salvation of others in keeping with the new congregation's charism.
The congregation seeks to love, serve and suffer in the person of Christ through its various apostolates. The members totally devote themselves in the salvific mission of the Church, through social service and charitable works among people, especially the poor and the needy, nay, the least of Christ's brethren.
