PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The courses in physical education emphasize the importance of keeping the body physically fit through individual and team activities as well as addressing the social, psychological, and mental aspects of a healthy life style.

Health and Safety (1credit) Grade 10
Health and Safety is a one-semester required course. A comprehensive development of health issues is explored in the areas of growth and development, mental and emotional health, community and environmental health, nutrition; family life; consumer health, and personal health. The course focuses on the development of hands on application, writing, problem solving, critical thinking skills, listening, and verbal skills. Personal health investigation translates issues to a personal level. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program. Prerequisite: None.

Physical Education (.5 credit per semester) Grade 9
Physical Education is a full-year required course. It is designed to provide a broad-based program. Physical well being is stressed as well as a wide spectrum of sports and lifetime activities. Pre- and post-testing is included. The course focuses on the development of hands-on application, theory, and body kinesthetic skills. Sportsmanship and teamwork are also an integral aspect. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program. Prerequisite: None.
