The Foreign Language
program develops skills allowing effective and positive communication
and interaction with native speakers for work and travel abroad, as well
as sensitivity to other cultures and societies in our world.

French 1-2
(2 credits) Grades 9-12
French 1-2 is a full-year elective course. This course introduces pronunciation
and intonation patterns, basic grammatical structures, and vocabulary.
Cultural learning is an integral part of French 1-2. This course focuses
on the development of writing skills, critical thinking skills, listening
skills, and verbal skills. Valuable for both a college and/or technical
prep program. Prerequisite: None.
French 3-4
(2 credits) Grades 9-12
French 3-4 is a full-year elective course. After reviewing French 1-2,
this course concentrates on mastery of syntax, expansion of vocabulary,
reading and writing the language, and cultural studies. This course focuses
on the development of writing skills, critical thinking skills, listening
skills, and verbal skills. Valuable for both a college and/or technical
prep program. Prerequisites: French 1-2.

French 5-6
(2 credits) Grade-10-12
French 5-6 is a full-year elective course. Vocabulary expansion, cultural
studies, and reading material provide greater facility in all language
skills. This course focuses on the development of writing skills, critical
thinking skills, listening skills, and verbal skills. Valuable for a college
prep program. Prerequisite: French 3-4.

(2 credits) Grades 12
French 7-8 is a full-year elective course. This course is conducted entirely
in French. Skills are refined via listening, speaking, reading, and writing
activities. This course focuses on the development of writing skills,
critical thinking skills, listening skills, and verbal skills. Extremely
valuable for a college prep program. Upon recommendation of the teacher,
students are eligible to take the AP tests offered by the college board
and possibly qualify for college credit. Prerequisite: French
5-6.
