The business courses provide learning which may lead to attendance in a college or a business school, or to pursuits in the job market. Courses focus on business theory, management skills, computer applications, current technologies and personal business skills that are essential to everyday life. A commitment to academically, professionally and personally developing students at all levels exists. It is our belief that through well designed curriculum, zealous work ethic and constant determination we can prepare students for the challenges they will face in today's business world.

Introduction to Business (2 credits) Grades 9-12
Introduction to Business is a full-year elective course. It allows students to gain a general understanding of the private enterprise system and the role business has on a capitalistic system. Topics discussed are: management practices involving time and money, comparison of economic systems and how private industry functions, government and labor's role in private industry, and the affect of the banking system on the economy. The course focuses on writing skills, problem solving, critical thinking, theory, and listening skills. Valuable for a college prep program. Prerequisite: Knowledge of the computer and computer applications is helpful.

Marketing (1 credit) Grades 10-12
Marketing is a one-semester elective course. It is designed to acquaint the student planning to enter the business sector with a thorough understanding of the customer concept, the company effort, and profit in a capitalistic society. Students are familiarized with the many functions essential in providing goods and services wanted and needed by the consumer. The skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to perform successfully on the job are detailed and discussed. The course focuses on writing skills, problem solving, critical thinking, listening, and verbal skills. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program. Prerequisite: None.

Sales (1 credit) Grades 10-12
Sales is a one-semester elective course. An appreciation of the role of wholesale and retail selling will be presented. It provides students with an awareness of the selling appeals and techniques encountered by the consuming public, and aids students in developing business and personal selling skills. Other areas presented included product knowledge, honest and ethical practices, promotional activities such as sales letters, radio, and television promotions, and human relations in the business sector. The course focuses in hands on application, writing skills, problem solving, critical thinking, listening, and verbal skills. Prerequisite: None.

Accounting 1-2 (2 credits) Grades 11-12
Accounting 1-2 is a two-semester, computerized elective course. It provides the basic skills for accurate records dealing with financial transactions. An introduction to the complete accounting cycles used by all major businesses as well as the skills used by general office clerks, accounting clerks, administrative support personnel, book keepers, accountants, and computer operators, programmers and analysts will be presented. Topics that will be included are proprietorship, corporations, depreciation, payroll, and taxes. The course focuses on hands-on computer application, lab work, writing skills, problem solving, theory, listening, and verbal skills. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program.

Accounting 3-4 (2 credits) Grades 11-12
Accounting 3-4 is a two-semester, computerized elective course. An introduction of advanced techniques of recording and interpreting financial data is presented. Major units of study include partnership, corporation, departmental, cost, budgeting, and computer-assisted accounting systems. The course focuses on hands-on computer application, lab work, writing skills, problem solving, logic, listening, and verbal skills. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program. Prerequisite: Grades of "A" or "B" in Accounting 1-2.

Business Management (1 credit) Grades 11-12
Business Management is a one-semester elective course. This course stresses the opportunities and problems of managing a business in a free enterprise system. Topics will include the foundations of management, organizational structure, communications, staffing, policy-making, automation in the office, and employee appraisal. The course focuses on the development of writing skills, problem solving, critical thinking, listening skills and verbal skills. How to manage people, machines and procedures for the environment will also be discussed. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program. Prerequisite: None.

Business Law (1 credit) Grade 11-12
Business Law is a one-semester elective course. This course provides a foundation for a basic understanding of the law as it pertains to individuals and businesses. The recognition and prevention of legal problems and the utilization of professional counsel will be discussed. The course focuses on the development of problem solving, critical thinking, theory, and listening skills. Topics studied are the characteristics of the US judicial system, crimes, torts and civil procedures, written and oral contracts, and legal responsibilities. Valuable for both a college and/or technical prep program. Prerequisite: None.
