Honors Diploma

The Academic Honors Diploma, a special high school diploma offered by the State of Indiana, is a curriculum of specific courses which will prepare students for the rigor of college coursework. It encompasses a wide variety of areas of study and introduces students to many Fields. How do I get an Honors Diploma?

  1. Complete at least forty-seven (47) high school credits between ninth and twelfth grades. That is 4 credits more than those needed for the basic diploma and 4 credits more that the Core 40. (One credit equals one semester of the class, with the exception of physical education.)
  2. Among those forty-seven credits, you must complete courses in the areas listed below. These courses must have been approved by the Department of Education as qualifying for the Diploma. You must check with your high school guidance counselor for these approved courses.
  3. Get at least a "C" in each course. (Any grade below a "C" will cause you to be ineligible for the diploma unless you can retake the class and earn a "C" or better in it.) You must also have an overall "B" average (3.0 grade point average out of 4.0).
  4. Meet any additional graduation requirements of your school.

Why should I get an Academic Honors Diploma? Indiana's public colleges will guarantee admission to their schools if you successfully complete all of the requirements of the Diploma. Ball State University, Indiana State University, Indiana University, University of Southern Indiana, IVY Tech State College, Purdue University, and Vincennes University will guarantee admission to recipients of the Academic Honors Diploma. Also, recipients will receive a special seal on their high school diploma and a special notation on their high school transcript. Additional financial aid is also available for the students who qualify for the state financial aid.
