Nathan Thomas Jackson was born on March 12, 1967 in Oakland, California. His early childhood was rough. Obediah worked hard and came home tired. His mother, Mahala, worked hard to instill good values in her children.
When Nathan was seven, Mahala was raped and committed suicide. Nathan blamed his father for his mother's death, feeling that Obediah was somehow responsible. Wishing to preserve Mahala's dignity and memory, Obediah kept the circumstances behind the suicide secret from the family until just before he himself died. Father and son were then reconciled.
When Nathan was 18, he joined the US Army and became an MP. This was a job he enjoyed greatly and he pursued his college degree in the field of criminology and law enforcement. When the Gulf War broke out, Nathan was assigned to a medical unit and picked up an interest in medicine there. He has taken course work to become a paramedic and works one weekend a month on an ambulance to maintain his certification.
After the war ended, Nathan left the military and moved to Four Corners, Arizona, where he joined the county sheriff's department. His job allows him to pursue his areas of interest. It also allows him to spend time with his best friend at her ranch and help her out whenever he can. Though Nathan owns his own small home close to town, he often stays in a spare room in Laura's house when working there. He drives a Ford Expedition. Some of Nathan's hobby-like interests include horse back riding, reading, bird watching, and surprisingly enough, playing the piano. He has a pleasant sounding singing voice and will often relax with Laura at her house, playing their favorite songs on the piano and singing along with her, or just watching the sun go down from her front porch.
