The Cougars put themselves in the running for the playoff in a game against the North Division Blue Devils!

In the first Quarter Cougar reciever Jebari Craig caught a 17-yard pass from Quarterback Nick Grady for the Cougars first Touchdown of the evening. In the second Quarter Runningback Ryan Isabell dashed down the field, a 22-yard run, scoring the next Tocuhdown for the Cougars making the Halftime score 12 - 0.

Jebari Craig helped his team out again with a 31-yard fumble recovery putting the Cougars further on the board. Defensive Tackle, Nehemiah Carson, scored a safty for the Cougars and getting one last Tocuhdown before the end of the game. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils were able to break through. North Reciever Cedric Benson had caught a 59-yard pass from Quarterback David Earl putting them on the board, but ending the game with a score of 28 - 6!

The Custer Cougars have had a respectable season thus far. The Cougars coach, Barry Zmudzinski, has noticed that the Cougars need to work on their mistakes. "The biggest problem we have is our mistakes" say Zmudzinski. Coach 'Z' is confident that the team will win the conference game against Riverside (Wednezday Oct. 17, 2000) providing that the team works on their mistakes.

"It's been a while since two undefeated team have gone against eachother for conference" Zmudzinski told his players. Coach 'Z' is more than sure that his Cougars and Riverside's Tigers will defeat this weeks opponents. For the Cougar they meet up with the North Division Blue Devils and the Tigers are to go against the Juneau Pioneers. Coach 'Z' mentioned that the Cougars will match conference records with the last years football team, who won the 2nd place conference title, assuming they will win against North Division and will be better if they win conference. Another thing Coach Zmudzinski said to bring up the teams spirits is that the Custer cougars will break the record for most consecutive enteries into the playoffs this year, if they beat, at leat, North Division.

Coach Zmudzinski told his players that next season the Custer Cougars will no longer be playing Sheboygan South or Racine-St. Cathrine. For opponent replacements Coach Zmudzinski said that Wauwatosa West will take one spot and the other spot may be taken by a city school such as Vincent or Washington. No one knows why Sheboygan and Racine have pulled out for next season, but the Cougars feel as though they couldn't take the beating!

Last weeks game against Marshall was a frighteningly close game with a final score of 26 - 22, Cougars. Coach 'Z' said that the Cougars are not a bad weather football team, which he said about the team at the Madison game. The weather was quite cold making it hard for many players to keep warm. Coach Zmudzinski that he was not happy with the effort his team showed out on that field, but he was pleased with the fact that the Cougars were persistant and refuse to loose, which is what Coach 'Z' thinks will upset Riverside, making thier conference win farther from their Tiger paws. There were a few limping starters who had to toughen it out through the game, such as Youree Wells who was nursing a twisted knee and Alvin Wilson who's ankle was affected by the cold/dry weather.

Custer's Homecomming game was a nice game to see, both from the players' perspective and the fans. The Cougars had their largest crowd that night! Roughly 150 fans from school, relatives of players and former Cougars came to see this game against the Rufus King Generals. At the start of the game the Generals took the lead in the beginning with a kick-off return touchdown ending the half at 20 - 27, Cougars. But that didn't last long. The Cougars Defense did not let the Generals get anymore of a score and finished the homecomming game with a score of 20 - 48, Cougars. "They shouldn't have gotten those other touchdowns." said Coach Zmudzinski implying that the Generals earned that kick-off return touchdown in the beginning.

The game against Madison was atroscious. The weather was horrible on that side of town making the wet and muddy ground hard for the cougars to play. "We're not a good bad wather team." Zmudzinski regretfully said about his team. The game started off rather rocky with the Madison Knights getting their first touchdown from kick-off followed by a 2-point conversion. It took the Cougars a bit of a struggle to get their points on the board but they did with a safty, forced in by Aaron Hanke and a touchdown score by a 32-yard run down the feild by C.J. Davis. The game winning point, though, was retrieved by Custer's new Kicker, Jose Rodriguez.

The Cougar shut-out the South Division Cardinals, Spetember 15, 2000, making the final score 27 - 0. This was Custer's third and last Non-Conference game of the season and their second consecutive win in a row. All the coaches were expecting to win this game, being that the Cardinals weren't the best team in the City.

The first Conference game the Cougars played was against the Juneau Pioneers, September 8, 2000. All started off well for the Cougars getting three consecutive touchdowns in the first half retrieved by Freshmen Demetreus Gaines, Senior Alvin Wilson and Junior Jeremiah Carson. The Cougars were doing alright until the defense started to colapse. The Juneau Pioneers had gotten two touchdowns of thier own before the half putting the score 31 - 12. In the second half the Cougars started a new game! Both Alvin Wilson and CJ Davis brought the team another three touchdowns making the final score 50 - 12!
