Jr. Varsity

Coach Bly loves coaching at Custer High School. This is his first year as coach and he is enjoying it. He says that he wishes he'd done this before when they'd asked him to coach three or four years ago. He says that coaching is alot of fun. Coach Bly compared coaching to classroom teaching, it follows the same principal. "Like an outdoor classroom" Coach Bly put it.

I had asked Coach Bly if he'd think the team will win the rest of the games this season. He instantly said "We'd better" and laughed.

Coach Bly said that the loss against Racine St. Cathrine, on Saturday, September 2, 2000, was an eye-opener. "It puts everything into perspective." Said coach.

Coach Bly expects the team to do very well an to give nothing but the best in the games.

I had asked Coach Bly who he thinks the most challenging team will be this season. He started off to say that Madison High School (Knights) may be the toughest this year and said that we can't overlook the other teams. Coach wished to change his statment and said that CUSTER will be the most challenging team. If the team manages to complete all thier plays thuroughly the team will be unstopable!

The major thing the team needs to work on is remebering the plays and understanding them, which was one of the things coach leaned towards. Coach also noted that the players need to take the game of football seriously. They need to commit to the team. Coach Bly said that everyone needs to give 110%, including himself as a coach.

I had asked coach who his key players are. He started off with Nick Grady, the JV Quarterback. He said that Nick needs to build more confidence so that he'll be a more effective quarterback for the Varsity squad. Coach then mentioned his key Linemen, Steve Lentz and Chris Cobbs. Both, again, needing to build confidence, esspecially Chris, since this is his first year. Ricardo Perez was also mentioned by Coach Bly as an asset on the defense as a saftey.

Coach finished up talking about the players needing to develop a work ethic to the game. The players tend to come in one day hyped and ready to tear you limb from limb and the next day come in dragging and careless.

I thank Coach Bly for the interview for this season. Good luck to the Custer Cougars on thier games the rest of the season!
