They went over the rules and the daily drills needed for a good first Practice! --Good Luck Guys! In Wrestling Coach Tomes was exceedingly pleased with the turn out. More than 50 kids showed up for the first day of practice! THis is Custer's first OFFICIAL Wrestling team in about ten years. Last year, as many know, Custer had to team up with North Division, yet, Custer too up the lions share of the Varsity squad and all of the JV squad. Tomes KNOWS that Custer will do extraordinary this year! And send many to State!!! 11/12/00 -- Custer Cougars 2000 Football Photo! The Cougars had ball controll most of the first quarter and made the first point in the game by a field goal. Unofortunately, the first Quarter was the only Quarter the Cougars had. The Defense started to break-down and the Bulldogs penetrated numerous time. The final score was 47 - 3, a poor loss for the Cougars. -->Click Here for Story 10/21/00 -- Freshmen Football! The Cougars' Freshmen Football team had won their Conference, yet had to share it with Riverside with a tie of 22 - 22. Coach Tomes is pround of his team's win, yet he wishes that they didn't have to share it with rival Riverside. The heart of the game was with Freshmen Fullback (and Varsity Lineman) Maurice Copening. "They never took his down." Said Coach Tomes. "The only time he was stopped was when he was driven out of bounds or a bunch of guys jumped on him...even then he didn't go down!"
In the Third Quarter the Defense was working their fullest. Jose Rodriguez finishedoff this spectacular run with a perfect kick with an extra point for the Cougars, winning the Conference Championship 17-0!!! 10/14/00 -- Freshmen Football! The Cougars Freshmen team beat the Blue Devils early this morning. Many of the Varsity players and Coaches were there to cheer them on. Coach Tomes and Coach Perfect were disapointed in the Kick-off Return team for letting the Blue Devils get so much off of them. Fortunately, the game ended with a score of massive score of 35 - 8. Freshmen stars: Demetreus Gaines, Maurice Copening, Wendell Eskridge and Damon Gaines. 10/13/00 -- Friday the 13th struck home! The Cougars were able to beat the North Division Blue Devils, but not as well as they should have. New Varsity starting Quarterback Nick Grady was nervous for his first game. Grady did the job just fine. Once Coach Bly sent in the old JV starting line Nick was able to relax. The game ended with a score of 28 - 6. Coach Zmudzinski believes that Nick Grady will do just fine come the Riverside game and the playoffs; he just needed to get the butterflies out. 10/9/00 -- Custer ties again! Similar to the Freshmen, the Jr. Varsity team tied with Marshall with a larger score of 14-14. In the beginning to the game the Cougars were on the downside of the game. New plays were not excecuted properly and half the team was sick from Saturday's game. Yet, in the second half Quarterback, Nick Grady out witted Marshall's team by keeping the plays simple and changing the counts causing the Cougars' opponents to jump offsides. JV Center Steve Lentz's knee was injured on a Quarterback sneak play. Fortunatly he got up with little problems and returned for the team. 10/7/00 -- Custer Loses...When hell freezes over!!! Hell didn't freeze over -- but it was close. Even this "high noon" match was very cold, at a temperture of about 30 degrees. The Cougars and the Eagles kept switching off the score in this game. The Cougars took the starting lead with a kick by Jose Rodriguez. The Eagles then took the lead by a touchdown, later. The Eagles kept the lead through most of the quarter until the last two minutes of the game the Cougars were able to get a touchdown run by Alvin Wilson that won Custer the game with a score of 25 - 22. The Freshmen team didn't do as well as the Varsity. The freshmen ended their game with a tie of 8-8 against Marshall's Freshmen Football team. 10/1/00 -- JV Cougars beat JV Generals! The Custer Cougar's JV team played, probably, their best game of the season this afternoon with a score of 28-0. Many of Custer's Freshmen did the team Justice. Both Demetreus Gaines and Wendell Eskridge got the team touchdowns creating a complete shutout game against the Generals. 9/30/00 -- Freshmen meets Varsity in Homecomming! 9/22/00 -- Cougars beat Knights by a MUD-slide! Despite the cold weather and the wet, muddy ground the Cougars were still able to win the game. Aaron Hanke scored a safety in the first quarter as Custer beat Madison, 9-8. C.J. Davis scored Custer's Touchdown on a 32-yard run and Jose Rodriguez (K) got the Cougars the game winning point in the first quarter. 9/16/00 -- Custer's Freshmen team losses second game. The Cougars have another win under their belt putting them at second in the over-all division standing and tie with Riverside in the Conference wins. Unfortunately, in Milwaukee, there were major thunder storm warnings occuring. The Cougars and the Pioneers both arrived at the park and started to warm up and do stretches, until lightning hit the field, close enough to shock one of the Pioneer's players. The game was cancelled for the day. The game will resume and we'll post it as we know the date and time. 9/9/00 -- Custer Freshmen vs Bayview! The Cougars Freshmen team went up against the Bay View Red Cats and lost by a score of 28-6. 9/8/00 -- Custer vs Juneau The Custer Cougars were ready to start their conference opening game. The Cougars dominated the Pioneers with a lead of 31 to 12 at the half. In the second half of the game the Cougars' defense were unstoppable never letting the Pioneers get another touchdown. The "heros" of the night were Alvin Wilson (12), CJ Davis (11), Jeremiah Carson (11) and Demetreus Gaines (9) who all scored the Cougars touchdowns! 9/6/00 -- Girls Volleyball team forfiets. Forfiets against Marshall -- ADD NOTES 9/2/00 -- Custer JV vs Racine St. Cathrine JV! The start of this game looked all too similar to a Varsity game the week before. Racine was able to rush by the Cougar Kick-off team score a touchdown early in the game. The Angels were able to complete the half with a 16 - 0 lead over the cougars. Though, the second half was a whole new game to the cougars. They score a touchdown of thier own and kept Racine from getting any more. The Cougars came close to tying the game, where the clock ended the game 10 yard from the end-zone. 9/1/00 -- Custer vs. Racine St. Cathrine! The Cougars started off etremely well tonight compared to the week before. Custer made the first touch down of the evening, on Racine home field, putting the score at 8 - 0 for the longest time. Racine got thier touchdown, but the attempt at a 2-point conversion was stopped by the Cougars! More... 8/28/00 -- Freshmen Playing on Varsity! It is very rare that Coach Zmudzinski will bring a Freshmen up to the Varsity level so early in the season. But, he did just that...twice. Demetreus Gaines and Maurice Copening are the new Freshmen that are with the varsity! Copening, at 5' 11" and 295lb, is not only an agressive linemen but a quick and rather frightening fullback! And Gaines, 185lb of pure muscle, is an extreme effort to knock down. More... 8/26/00 -- Custer JV vs. Sheb. South JV! The Cougars JV team traveled to Sheboygan early this Saturday morning to get revenge on the school that beat the cougars the night before. The score was kept down to an even 0 - 0 for the whole first half, but the cougars blasted thier way through getting Custer a touch down and a 2-point conversion early in the second half. The score was milk through out the half where the Cougars won 8 - 0! 8/25/00 -- Custer vs. Sheboygan South! As the team walked on to their home feild, at Custer Stadium, to face the Sheboygan Redwings the team was excited to start thier first game.
