Custer vs. Juneau
Varsity

Last year the Cougars came in second place in the Blackbourn Division Conference, with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. This young team went to the WIAA State Playoffs against 2nd place State champions Brookfield Central and lost. Coach Zmudzinski says "We overachieved a little." He had also stated that the team speaks well for itself, talentwise.

Coach Zmudzinski talked about last years Freshmen team's efforts for the up comming year. He refered to them as "A good Freshmen crop." He said that these young Cougars will add depth to the team. Many of them filling voids on the team, as long as they keep conditioned over the summer. Coach said that others schools will also be working on weightlifting and endurance. "We'll have to out work the other teams." Coach said.

Coach Zmudzinski mentioned some of the teams he thinks will make some good competition next year. Riverside, Rufus King and Madison have all put up some good fights the passed few years. We've won the Conference Championship in 95, 97 & 98. Coach says that he thinks we should win it this comming year.

I had asked Coach Zmudzinski about the Homecomming game against Rufus King. He said that we've beaten the Generals two years in a row, last year being their homecomming. This year should be no different.

Last year the Cougars had only two returning letter winners, whereas this year the Cougars will have 20 returning letter winners, both major and minor.

Towards the end of the interview coach Zmudzinski mentioned his top three returning players for the 2000 season: Alvin Wilson (RB), C.J. Davis (RB) and Ryan Isabell (RB). All three are next years Captains, including Lineman George Ewing.

It looks as though the other city teams will have a few good reasons to be afraid of Custer in the year 2000. Good Luck Cougars, and Thank you to Coach Zmudzinski for the interview.
