Tecmo Bowls: I, III, IV, V, VII

Instruction book introduction: Superstar team leader "TAYLOR" holds the defense together which is out to destroy any offense. Quarterback "SIMMS" is the key to their offense and is counted on heavily.
Quarterback - Phil Simms In the top half of Tecmos quarterback class, Simms gives New York a reliable passing attack and solid overall play from under center. Skill-wise Phil Simms is almost dead average, but he knows how to win, and has a sense for when its time to go get the required three points for the Giants. The bottom line is Phil Simms gets it done.

Running Back Joe Morris Much like Phil Simms, BoMo is about as average skill-wise you can get. Not that thats a bad thing. BoMo has enough speed, and good enough plays, to demand respect from the opposing defense, which allows the offense to use the pass to get down field. Morris is know for his ability to split the defense and take over games at times with big plays. Hes not a pro bowler, but hes a solid running back all around.

Receiving Corps Lionel Manuel, Stacy Robinson, Mark Bavaro Manuel is below average with no speed, or playmaking ability. He also holds the distinction of being the weakest receiver in the game, as defenders can simply push him to the turf without engaging in a grapple. Robinson is an average receiver with a girls name, thats everything you need to know about him. Mark Bavaro is the best tight end in the game, with tremendous speed, very good power, and has enough juking skill to make even star defenders miss. Bavaro is Tecmos second best receiving threat. While not a great overall receiving corps, this unit can get it done and Bavaro gives it all the playmaking ability it needs to be very effective, especially against weaker defenses.

Offensive Line Bill Ard, Bart Oates, Damien Johnson, W. Roberts All of these guys have the bare minimum offensive line abilities, so theres nothing to say about them.

Defense The Giants have the best defense in the game, thanks to the hulking combination of LT and Carl Banks. With LT at bottom outside linebacker, Banks at top outside linebacker, and the second best right end in the game (Leonard Marshal), the Giants can play great defense against anyone, and can mix and match their defensive style whenever they need to. The rest of the defense is made up of solid role players who have a knack for closing in on the ball carrier before they can do a lot of damage. Overall this is a totally dominating unit.

Kick Returner Phil McConkney You could make the case that McConks is the worst kick returner in the game. McConkney has no speed and rarely breaks off anything past the 30. Basically a non-threat.

Kicker Raul Allegre One of the worst kickers in the game, Allegre makes it tough for the offensively limited Giants, as he needs to be inside the 40-yard line to make a kick. To recap, Raul Allegre sucks.

Punter Sean Landeta The best punter in the game, Landeta can bomb punts over 75 yards and can always win the field position battle for the Giants if up against strong opposition. Landeta is almost too good, as touchbacks are very common with him.

Star Player Lawrence Taylor New Yorks bottom outside linebacker, LT is the fastest defensive player in the game. A terror against the run and pass, LT also blocks all field goals from outside about the 10-yard line. Blocking extra points isnt out of the question either. LT is the man.

Overall - The New York Giants continually dominate the Tecmo league and are considered the best team in the game. With a superstar studded defense, and the game's best punter the Giants play the field position battle better then anyone, and it allows them to win a lot of 3-0 games. Their offense is average, or slightly below, but can always get it done, and their special teams can be considered strong, despite weak field goal kicking and kick returning, thanks to Landeta's punts and having Taylor to man field goal blocking duty. Overall New York is Tecmo's #1 team.
