Legendary Games & Moments Archive Games #1-499
Game #4 – Los Angeles (Derek) vs. Seattle (Cam) – Back-to-back kick returns for touchdowns by Tim Brown and BJ Edmonds. First and only time ever.
Game #36 – Chicago (Cam) vs. San Francisco (Derek) – With Chicago up 14-13 with time winding down, San Fran barely scrapes into field goal range, and proceeds to hit a 40 yard field goal as time expires to win the game 16-14, despite the holder being popped.
Game #40 – New York (Cam) vs. San Francisco (Derek) – The Cheapest Game Ever. For the first time ever the now conventional “Be Banks” strategy comes into play, and works to per-fucking-fection until the Tecmo Gods step in. San Fran scores in the dying seconds to win the game 7-6.
Game #48 – Seattle (Cam) vs. Los Angeles (Derek) – In a shocking game the former Seattle Blowers firmly established themselves as a Tecmo power. Seattle’s offense put up a huge 31 points against LA’s defense and managed to hold LA’s #1 offense to only 3 points. Having been slowly moving up the rankings Seattle finally made a statement game to claim a spot among Tecmo’s best. But they’re still the Blowers.
Game #62 – Chicago (Kyle) vs. Denver (Cam) – A pretty uneventful game other then a Tecmo-record 98-yard interception return as time expires for Chicago’s Dave Deverson.
Game #68 – New York (Derek) vs. San Francisco (Cam) – The Horseshit Bowl. San Fran scares the living hell out of the Giants until the Tecmo Gods refuse to let them lose. The game goes into OT, and the Giants win the coin toss, and the game.
Game #94 – Dallas (Derek) vs. Chicago (Kyle) – A season 2 match-up made famous for Mike Gentry’s 2 Kick Returns for Touchdowns. Giving Chicago the 14-9 victory. This was the first 2 Kick Return game by one player in Tecmo history.
Mike Gentry, getting gay returns since 1982
Game #96 – New York (Kyle) vs. Seattle (Cam) – Another season 2 game seeing the Giants and Seahawks go into over-time. 0-0 after regulation, the game was and still is the longest game in Tecmo Bowl history. It finally ended when LT said “enough is enough” got the INT and the Giants into FG range for the 3-0 win.
LT, everywhere since 1981
Game #100 – Chicago (Kyle) vs. Miami (Cam) – Mike Gentry up to his old tricks. With one kick return in the books already Gentry got the ball in over-time as Chicago won the toss after regulation time ended 13-13. Gentry proceeds to run the kick back for the major and the win. This was Mike Gentry’s 2nd 2 Kick Return game.
Mike Gentry, again. Not calling him Dennis since 2003.
Then for a long time nothing happened… Game #156 – Tecmo Bowl II – Washington (Derek) vs. Seattle (Cam) – The finals of the second Tecmo season saw Washington’s stingy defense, led by the Doom Combo of Manley and Mann, face up-start Seattle who had finally found a winning formula. It was a tight contest until late in the game when Washington managed to pick up a first down despite Seattle’s defense calling the play (something that would never happen under new Tecmo rules) this all lead to Washington getting the lead and the win. Final score 13-3.
Doom Combo, causing Doom since 1983
Game #216 – Tecmo Bowl III – Chicago (Derek) vs. New York (Cam) – Another season, another Giants win. Totally unshocking stuff if this site has taught you anything. Standard New York’s #1 defense giving up 0 points and Simms and the boys doing their job. Final score: 10-0. Game #217 – Chicago (Kyle) vs. San Francisco (Derek) – The first game of Season 4 saw a dramatic finish. With time running out San Fran battled into field goal range and attempted the long field goal for the win. But Otis Wilson had other ideas. Wilson manages to shock the crowd and block the field goal! The game went to OT where Chicago eventually came out on top for the 13-10 win. Game #253 – New York (Kyle) vs. Seattle (Cam) – Down 14-0 entering the 4th quarter it looked like Seattle was going to cruise to victory. That is until the Giants, led by LT and JoMo, score 14 unanswered in the 4th to force OT in dramatic fashion. With both offenses looking unstoppable the coin toss was of the up most importance. The Giants won it. And quickly got the FG for the win, prompting a NES fist smash of doom. This is probably the first signs of Kyle coming around with the New York Giants, something that was made official a little further down the road. Game #287 – Los Angeles (Cam) vs. New York (Derek) – The New York Gods. Basically by fluke accident it is discovered that the New York Giants’ defense can totally own the best offense in the game. By picking Pass 1 and being Banks, LA’s offense can go nowhere. This basically solidifies New York’s status as the undisputed heavyweight champions of Tecmo Bowl, never to be overtook.
Carl Banks, shutting down LA since 1984
Game #296 – Chicago (Cam) vs. Miami (Derek) – A totally insignificant game made famous for it marking the dying of the kick return for Touchdowns. Mike Gentry put one on the board this game to help give Chicago the 13-6 win. Since this game there have been a big drop-off in kick returns for touchdowns. This is not to say big kick returns are not happening, because they still are (just ask Crawford) but they aren’t going for majors anymore for whatever reason. Game #298 – Minnesota (Derek) vs. Los Angeles (Cam) – The Infamous NES Wall Throw. Yeah, wall throw. After two completely inexplicable incomplete long bombs way down field thrown by LA’s Jay Schroeder, Cam announces that if Minnesota scores any points he is going to throw the Nintendo at the wall. One field goal later the Nintendo was tasting wall. And rightfully so. It was up and running again in 10 minutes. Game #301 – Washington (Cam) vs. New York (Kyle) – Dexter Manley Says No. In a hugely defensive affair, with both the Giants and Redskins struggling to move the ball, Manley steps up and becomes a certified Tecmo legend. It is widely know that the Giants TOTALLY own the Washington O and that they can barely go 10 yards, so Dexter Manley decides to do it himself. The Giants had the ball at around mid-field and were getting close to FG range, and the 3 points they need to win, until Phil Simms lofts up an ill-advised ball on patented Pass 2. Dexter Manley comes flying into the screen at LT-like speeds, grabs the ball out of the receivers hands and proceeds to run it back 40 or so yards to inside the Giants 15. QB Doug Williams capitalizes and gets Washington the major for the HUGE upset victory 7-0.
Dexter Manley, assassinating the run since 1981
Game #307 – Miami (Derek) vs. Cleveland (Kyle) – With Miami at full powerhouse status at this point everyone in the crowd was expecting an easy Miami victory, but Cleveland’s defensive co-coordinator had other ideas. In what maybe the biggest play-calling effort in Tecmo history Cleveland stymied the unstoppable Miami O in unbelievable fashion, and was in position to win the game until Cleveland’s kicker Bahr stepped onto the field. Bahr missed 2 FGs on this fateful day, costing Cleveland a 6-3 loss even after super-human defensive effort from Dixon and the boys.
Matt Bahr, missing clutch FGs since Kyle got a hold of CLE
Game #320 – San Francisco (Cam) vs. New York (Derek) – The Greatest Game of All-Time. Derek was 17-0 with the Giants entering the game; the only remaining undefeated team in Tecmo. The pressure had begun mounting for weeks as several teams gave the Giants some close calls, including SF a couple of times. But Joe Montana and Spider-Man were not to be denied this time. In an extremely close game the Giants had managed to get up 3-0 with time winding down in the 4th quarter. Montana rallied the troops and marched down field in a spectacular drive that avoided play-picks like the plague, and saw Montana show no fear in the pocket. With SF ultra deep in Giants territory, but LT looming on any FG attempts, Montana decided to go end zone, and who better to throw to then the Greatest of All-Times, Jerry Rice. On a gutsy Pass 1 call, Montana quickly cycled and found Rice in the end zone for the major. The Giants were left with little time remaining, and Phil Simms last second drive could not get it done against the determined San Fran defense. Final score SF 7, Giants 3. Amazing stuff. Made more amazing by Derek being 0 LT all game. Shocking stuff, since LT was begging to save the game, like he always does.
Jerry Rice. The Greatest of All-Times since before you were born.
Games #330-333 – Various – Games #330 to #333 saw a streak of 4 straight games going in over-time, providing further proof Tecmo parity has become a full scale reality. (Damn.) Game #354 – San Francisco (Derek) vs. Cleveland (Cam) – Dixon with 4 INTs. Tying the Tecmo Bowl record, we think. A truly insane maniac performance that lifted Cleveland to a hard fought 6-3 win. Game #366 – Tecmo Bowl IV Finals - Miami (Derek) vs. New York (Kyle) – The game that finally showed Kyle, playing in his 100th career game, could win with the Giants, like all real players can. A rock solid 9-0 victory. Much more important in terms of human player development then in the actual game itself.
Giants winning the Tecmo Bowl. Since the beginning of time. Game #380 - Chicago (Cam) vs. Los Angeles (Derek) - Mike Gentry gets the first kick return for a TD in 84 games played. Kick returns are offically back, and are gayer then ever. Game #383 - San Francisco (Derek) vs. New York (Cam) - With the NYG up 7-3 and only 1 second left you would think the game was all but over, but instead Montana managed to squeeze in an extra close 10 yard pass to his TE on Pass 2 and grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat. Cam, not standing for this kind of bullshit promptly stomps the Nintendo into submission, collapsing it's insides. Speculation abound of whether this was the end for Nintendo were put to rest after opening it up and repairing the bent steel case. Already weakened from earlier structural damage Nintendo is still coming on strong, because it is Nintendo.
Nintendo, being invincible since 1985. Game #384 - Tourney 7 Finals - Chicago (Cam) vs. San Francisco (Derek) - The New York Giants not involved in a Finals. Strange and disappointing stuff. San Fran managed to pull out the close 3-0 victory in a game dominated by defense. San Fran winning this tournament marked the first time a non-NYG, LA, WSH team had won anything. Game #391 - Miami (Cam) vs. New York (Derek) - Miami Shocks the World. Miami's 3-0 victory on this day marked only the 2nd time Derek had lost with the New York Giants. Marino totally dominated the NYG Defense, getting his team inside the Giants 10 on 3 different occasions. Despite only coming away with 3 points, it was enough as the Miami defense played unbelievable, holding the Giants in their own territory the entire game. This looks to be Miami's last hurray as a totally unstoppable mega power, but you never know when you're talking about a team as gay as Miami. Game #394 - Tourney 8 Finals - San Francisco (Cam) vs. Minnesota (Derek) - Minnesota Shocks the World. Minnesota proves that they are without a doubt the gayest team in Tecmo Bowl. After beating Dallas in Round 1, then shocking the experts with wins over 2 very good teams in Cleveland and Miami, Minnesota goes out and wins a freaking tournament. After getting up early, Minnesota is reward a questionable INT from a driving Montana, prompting a good old fashion quit from Cam. Handing Minnesota the 21-0 win, and the tournament. Game #408 - Tourney 6 Finals - New York (Cam) vs. Chicago (Derek) - Tourney 6 was delayed while Kyle was off being an ass. After getting gang probed by Ken Bell in the semi-finals the NYG special teams are again outrageously gang probed dispite being the supposed "best special teams in the game." Mike Gentry gets 2 returns past mid-field (the record against the NYG), making 3 kick returns past the 50 in a row against the Giants, when in their previous 70 or so games it happened exactly once. This caused for a big knee right to the Nintendo's face from Cam. Come on 3 in a row?!?! The Nintendo was seemingly unaffected after 15 minutes of rest. Final score 13-3 Chicago. Their first win at anything. Game #417 - Denver (Derek) vs. Indianapolis (Cam) - This Tourney 9 match-up saw Indy score early, and later in the game get a huge defensive stand inside their own 5. After going down by 2 touchdowns from a super long pass by Trudeau, Derek smashed the controller full blast onto the Nintendo, causing some major league structural damage. After opening it up to repair it Nintendo has looked shaky in recent games, a couple of freezes out of nowhere and the like. The Nintendo is now on it's last legs in the stretch drive to 500 games played. Game #427 - Cleveland (Derek) vs. New York (Cam) - This Tourney 9 games saw regular contender Cleveland challange the always champion New York Giants. This close defensive contest (did you expect offense?) saw Cleveland manage their way into field goal range (inside the NYG 10) and hit the only score of the game for the 3-0 win. This game marked the first time Cleveland had defeated the powerhouse Giants, something that they are capable of, gayly enough. Sometime around this game the new, crazy and insane motto "Why Call Run?" came in to exsistence. Deviating a lot from the standard and traditional What Do You Do? You Call Run. Game #430 - Chicago (Cam) vs. Indianapolis (Derek) - Bickett is Larry Bird. With Chicago up 10-3 late in the 4th, and deep in IND territory, Bears quarterback Jim McMahon casually calls Pass 2 and puts up an easily completed pass to wide reciever Willie Gault. Indy linebacker, Duanne Bickett, however had other ideas. Dispite being MILES away from the WR he manages to haul in the pass for the incredible INT. This INT set new standards in how far the defender can be from the receiver and still get the pick, breaking Dixon's recently set mark. It was literally unbelievable, as jaws were on the floor for several minutes. Indy almost used the momentum to make the comeback but an Chicago INT ended that. Game #434 - Tourney 9 Finals - New York (Derek) vs. Cleveland (Cam) - The championship game of the 9th Tecmo tournament (the first of the double knock-out variety) saw the 5-1 Giants (lost to CLE) face the 5-1 Browns (lost to NYG). Another standard New York Giants defensive affair, this game went to overtime tied 0-0. Immutable laws be damned, the Tecmo Gods give the Giants the toss win and the Giants O did what they do, and that's get their points. It ended 7-0 NYG, giving LT his 4th tournament trophy. Game #472 - Dallas (Cam) vs. Washington (Derek) - Some time around here, maybe before, it was found out that Washington can't move the ball and became the worst team in the game. By being the RE and calling Pass 2 Washnigton's offense can only do 2 things: 1. Go to Run 2, which can get about 6-7 yards 50% of the time and 2-3 the other 50% and 2. Go to Pass 1 and force in some risky passes. Washington's only hope now is Manley to step up huge on defense.
Dexter Manley, Washington's only hope since Game #472. Game #474 – Chicago (Cam) vs. New York (Derek) – Late in the 4th quarter with the game tied 0-0 the Giants had the ball in their own territory. Instead of electing to punt and force the game into overtime the Giants inexplicably go for it on 4th down and, with accordance to Tecmo’s Immutable Laws, have their play picked. Simms was unable to get it into the air in time in order to gain a little field position and was sacked deep in Giant territory. The Bears took full advantage and managed to gain the 10-15 yards needed for the game-winning field goal. Final score 3-0. This game marked only the 3rd time in 29 games that Derek has lost with the NYG, all on the road. Game #489 & #490 – Dallas (Cam) vs. Miami (Derek) & Minnesota (Cam) vs. Miami (Derek) – These 2 games officially marked Miami’s fall as a full blown mega power, and dropped them to merely unstoppable but beatable. Dallas won 12-3 on the back of a couple of Jeffcoats INTs, and Minnesota managed to win 13-0 prompting a Nintendo smash. Back-to-back losses to 2 of the bottom 3 teams in the game have really dropped Miami down the power rankings. |
