WorshipThe church worships the God known through the witness of the Christian Bible. The church worships the one God, who called Israel into covenant, fulfilled that promise in Jesus Christ, and embraced all people through the Spirit of truth. The church, therefore, worships the triune God, the one God known in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Reading the Bible is the heart of Christian worship. For Protestant Christians preaching from the Bible is the primary manifestation of Jesus Christ in the life of the church. In the Catholic and Orthodox traditions of the church the Eucharist is primary, yet in the twentieth century preaching from scripture has become more important than it was historically. In the New Testament Jesus prays by himself and with his disciples, and the apostles pray with their followers. The Psalms of the Old Testament not only continued to be recited as prayers among Jews but these poetic expressions of faith are also read regularly as prayers within the church. All Christians pray the Lord's Prayer (Our Father), and Protestant churches encourage Christians to pray in their own words. Visitors to this web site are encouraged to read the Christian Bible daily, as part of their discipline of prayer. Therefore, the web site contains a calendar of daily readings for each month of the year. If you would like to receive these daily scripture readings by email, please send a blank email letter to Christian-Bible. If you would like to participate by email in a discussion of the Bible and Christian faith, please send a blank email letter to the Christian Bible Dialogue. Sermons prepared by Rev. Robert Traer are also being made available on this web site for anyone who wishes to read them or use them. These sermons interpret passages of scripture from the Christian Bible and apply the principles of Christian faith to the issues that challenge the contemporary church. This web site also offers prayers for use within the life of the church. Please feel free to use these in the worship of your church or in your private discipline of prayer.
