The first paragraph of the Acts of the Apostles tells us that it is the continuation of the gospel of Luke. The book relates the early development of the church from the time just after the resurrection in the early to mid 30s to the arrest of Paul in Rome about 60 A.D. The author has addressed his entire account, beginning with Zechariah's vision in the temple in Jerusalem and ending with the teachings of Paul under house arrest in Rome, to an unknown Gentile or Jew with a Greek name. Before the four gospels were collected into the New Testament, this two-volume gospel story was read as a single account that presents a unified narrative of the early church from the perspective of a member of a primarily Greek-speaking, Gentile community of Christians.
