GRADUATE STUDIES

On the desire of ASCOT to contribute to the development of professionals in Aurora Province, the Graduate program was initiated in August 1, 1997 in collaboration with the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST). This is also in response to the growing demand of  professionals employed in the DECS, LGU’s and other private agencies/establishments in Aurora to take graduate courses related to their respective fields. In addition there is no need to travel long distance and spend more money to pursue graduate courses in Cabanatuan or in Manila. The consortium with ASCOT and NEUST will last until the second semester of 2000. ASCOT will then fully resume the operation of the graduate programs as it already has capable, trained, and qualified faculty members to handle the courses. The increasing number of graduate students encourages the College administration to pursue further improvement and development in the delivery of instruction to upgrade the competencies of teachers and employees in the province of Aurora.

The ASCOT-NEUST collaboration includes equal distribution of competent faculty members to handle the graduate classes, administration assistance and consultancy for effective management of the program and model curricula designed by both schools. The joint management of the program covers the following:

    1. Admission of the qualified students.
    2. Selection of subjects to be offered during the semester based on the curricula being implemented.
    3. Administration of the comprehensive examination.
    4. Administration of thesis writing program.
    5. Deliberation of qualified candidates for graduation.
    6. Graduation Activities
    7. Planning and evaluation of the research and extension program of the Graduate School.
    8. Planning and evaluation of the student services program.
    9. Evaluation of Instructor.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

As the result of the said collaboration, more than one hundred professionals belonging to the academic, business and public sectors were able to enroll regularly every semester.

After two years, a total of 21 professionals enrolled under the Master in Management major in Public Management (MM-PM) and Educational Management (MM-EM) successfully graduated these courses during the NEUST graduation ceremonies held in Cabanatuan City on November 1999.

The collaboration also resulted successfully in the undertaking of extension program in the municipality of Dipaculao, in the effective integration of selected faculty and staff of the NEUST and ASCOT.

That this collaboration will continue until the time the ASCOT can manage the graduate program on its own capabilities with the approval of Board of Trustees.

DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL EDUCATION

The School of Education is one among the eight ( 8 ) departments planned by the College to be established in its original development plan. However, It was only in the start of SY 1999 when this department formally started. According to the ASCOT seven ( 7 ) year Development Plan, "The Department of Education intends to educate and retain for growth, well-rounded and competent committed teachers for basic education schools in the province and region." To keep the members of the faculty abreast, they were sent to different seminars/workshops in the field of their specialization. Five faculty members are completing a Doctorate degree while 5 recently finished their Masteral studies.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

The School of Engineering and Technology offers ladderized courses leading to Bachelor’s degree namely in Civil, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, Industrial with four majors to choose from and Food Technology. A bachelor's degree in Food Technology is also being offered. The department ensures that the engineering and technology students will leave the college with full knowledge and equipped with skills vital in their chosen field of specialization. This way they become ready to face the steep competition during the job hunt. Students were well oriented during their hands-on activities wherein they do actualization of the concepts gained from lecture activities.

In order to produce globally competent graduates, the students were also given various computer subjects such as Computer System Application, Computer Aided Design I and II. All are applied in computerized designing of building plans. Instructors in Mechanical and Civil Technology are likewise trained by a specialized volunteer (through the Korea International Cooperation Agency - KOICA) on Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and Mechanical Vibration. The Department benefits from the College's faculty development program thru faculty trainings and scholarships. 3 of its instructors have already undergone training in various technological fields in Seoul, Korea.

ACHIEVEMENTS

A remarkable output of this Department is the overall performance of its first batch of Engineering graduates who took their respective licensure examinations in 1999 and 2000. 75% of the students who took the Licensure Board Examination for Civil Engineers passed. 100% for the Master Electrician Examination and 70% in Trade Test given by the Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), respectively. The succeeding tables present these details.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND AQUATIC SCIENCE

The Department of Agriculture and Aquatic Science is operating a curriculum that starts with the Diploma in Agricultural Technology (DAT),  a two-year course leading to Bachelor in Agricultural Technology (BAT). The program aims to provide students with massive technical/agricultural skills so as to enhance the capability of students to become competent, future farmers and good entrepreneurs in the province. The bulk of the Department is situated in Barangay Bazal, Maria Aurora.

Students of the Department of Agriculture and Aquatic Science regularly  participate in different activities such as: Intramurals; Monthly Convocations; Town Fiesta Parade; Foundation Day; Acquaintance; Christmas Party;Mass work; and motorcades.

Trainings are also regularly attended by students to enrich their knowledge (such as: Credit Seminar conducted by MADECO; Feasibility study preparation conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry; Leadership training conducted by ASCOT).

Projects

Several projects are established by the Department addressing the four functions of the College: instruction, research, extension and production. These are on crops, fish, livestock, poultry, scion-groove nursery, cutflowers, meat and crop processing. In addition to the existing infrastucture projects, the Feed Mill and Oil Mill at the Bazal Campus are now fully established and operationalized. For faculty development, faculty members are sent to trainings and seminars to update their knowledge and expertise based on their respective field of specialization.

DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

The establishment of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science is a response to the challenge for the protection and conservation of the bountiful and diverse biological and natural resources of the province of Aurora. The overall thrust of the program is tied to the developmental goals of the province in relation to the kind of forest resources all over Aurora. The Foresters comprising the faculty of the Department are all well trained and qualified to deliver basic instruction to the students. The success of the implementation of the program is manifested by having its first batch of students' post a laudable passing percentage in the licensure board examination for Foresters last June 1999. The list of Board Passers is shown in the following table:
