Speck
1998 - 2006

It is with deep sadness that I announce that Speck, my companion of these past 8 years, has left us. He was suffering from advanced symptoms of feline diabetes and had been experiencing increasing discomfort in the past several months.

He was born in Vancouver, BC, travelled with me to Calgary, then back to Vancouver, then to Toronto. He seemed to actually enjoy travel.

He was the most brilliant animal I have ever known and appeared to be studying English in his last months. He had learned to understand several commands and phrases. He also seemed to have learned to say the word "water" (two very distinct syllables) which he ended up saying a lot more as his condition worsened.

He enjoyed George Gershwin, soccer and roasted chicken. He was exceedingly social. He despised Stone Temple Pilots and would leave the room whenever any of their music was played. He had very singular taste.

He will be missed.

Hey Adam helped me figure out comments. I don't expect many people will actually post anything here, but you never know.

Happy... cold weather season everyone... ?!

I finally found some downtime to write some more here. I never thought I, of all animals, would be so busy. But I am. It could be worse.

Adam bought me some kind of fuzzy ball thing with a bell inside it. I'm not entirely sure why. I thought it was some sort of art installation piece at first (noisemaker, with texture, which can be moved) or some kind of other experimental item. So I stared at it for a long time. It doesn't have any sort of power switch. Odd...

Anyway I guess (?) I'm glad to have something new. I much prefer the wet food he bought for me. That was gone in moments. Yummy!

It has begun to get very cold again. I enjoy watching it get cold outside. Glad I'm not out there. Those people are crazy!

Oh! My squirrel show has begun again. More later.

And I thought I kept crazy hours!

Adam has been working a lot lately and I realized we're not on the same schedule anymore. I thought I'd try switching that up a bit, get creative with my wakeup calls etc. I don't think it's working.

Then again: this week he seems to be back to his "old" schedule which I think still works best for him.

It's gotten cold suddenly though. Very strange to see it suddenly so cold outside.

Did I already mention our new windows? They're excellent but what a lot of work to get them in. Two remaining ones apparently going in on Saturday (day after tomorrow.) I was trying to get an idea of how the workers were putting them in but they'd stop talking when I checked in on them. They weren't even talking the same words as Adam usually says so I am fairly certain they actually didn't know what they were doing. Still: now we have new windows!

Anyway: Maybe this means I can watch squirrels again! I love that show. And it's always on!

I noticed there is more and more spam showing up for pitiful, hopeless stocks. Remember that OB basically means "Out of Bounds." :) And now that hurricanes (whatever they are) have caused so much trouble I have to go back on what I said about commodities. Although if you already invested in some of those, maybe you can donate some of your earnings to the relief efforts (whatever those are. I'm reading from crib notes I was provided by accountants.)

I have to go sleep at last. I'm at the mercy of the French markets and they close at bizarre times.

Rowr rowr?

Well the construction is done for the moment at least. Now we just have to get a leak fixed in our bathroom. It caused quite a mess! I was worried Adam would think that was me but he somehow knew it wasn't. I can't reach the ceiling. (Not yet anyway. I should get something to do that. It looks fun.)

Now if we could just take care of the heat. It's very hot in our rooms. I don't like it. I don't think Adam does either. He gives me something called "ice" now. (sp?) It's pretty good! Feels all weird. I like it. More please!

My email address has again been used by another stupid spam sending person or cat. I hate spam sending things. So if you came here because of that you should know: I don't like whoever did that. I have claws. They should be aware of this.

Finally diversified my primary portfolio and now all these people are asking for advice. I can't help most of you because it's not my job - and, you may have noticed, I am a cat. I'm also not licensed. However I will reiterate that oil is not something you probably want to stick with in the long term, but gold and platinum probably are. And insurance companies. Though I hear the ones in Florida are risky.

My medicine lately means I'm not up in time for the UK or Hong Kong exchanges so I can't help any of you on that one.

Oh and mutual funds. And T bills. And uh... Well you get the picture.

Speaking of which I discovered I can't apply for a mortgage. Don't they know who I am? I thought I'd give it a try since there are so many competing websites out there. No deal. Weird. I don't even need that large of a space. (But don't tell Adam cuz I like how big my space is now.) You'd think they would be nicer to me. Maybe I should set up an office appointment...

Adam's remotes often don't point in the direction I need them to, or he closes the door on the TV before he goes. This is highly irritating behavior. I need my CNBC from time to time. Frustrating. I moved one to where I thought it should be and he moved it right back up to the table. He has no idea how much effort that takes!

With that I sign off. I have more doctoring things coming up which I'm not sure I like. But they use nice shampoo on my fur. :)

Off I go.

There has been some quite elaborate construction work going on during the day which I don't think Adam is aware of. He only sees the ladders after they've gone. Very strange. I didn't order this. It is harder and harder to concentrate with all that noise.

That and the heat of course. We still didn't get the air conditioning. I don't know what that is but if it means it's less hot outside I would definitely like it. I discovered that our fridge is essentially like a small little cold room. It fits me perfectly! Why doesn't he just let me stay in there? I showed him how comfy it makes me and everything. Hmm... He's such a fussy man.

Adam seems to be attending a lot of things without me. It works out okay because I'm in the midst of a lot of overseas stuff. (Thanks to the recent UK situation I have a lot of re-organization of my portfolio to do.) But it sounds like they usually involve food. He knows I like food. Is he crazy? He never even brought any back and he even had shrimp! I love shrimp! If someone sees this please remind him to bring me some.

Been feeling pretty lazy as a result of the heat. Adam has prepped a hotel weekend for me in August. I'm excited for that. They give great massages there.

And I think that's it. So busy lately. Also Adam has made modifications to my laptop that make it that much more useful. (DVD! Fantastic.)

My soup is ready. Off I go.

It has been suggested to me that I should write a book about sound investing strategies for cats. I don't know that a market for such a book exists but I'd certainly be willing to find out and give it a try. Will I need a press agent? An assistant? A stylist? I'll probably need some disk space. As it is I've eaten up a lot of space on this laptop. (Did I mention that I like the laptop? It's practically all mine. Adam's not using it so much. I like the laptop!)

So I'll have to consider some titles. (Besides, of course, "Sound Investment Strategies for Cats.") Maybe I should append that to "...For YOUR Cat". Market it to cat owners. Or roommates of cats. Hm. Possibilities!

I went to my Doctor on the weekend but I did not stay overnight like I usually do. Hm. I don't know what the problem was but I didn't have much done to me. They used that brush again though. That was cool! Adam says I'm going to be okay. Doctor didn't say much to me at all. Maybe it was Adam's Doctor? Hm! Anyway it means treats and a car ride. Yippee!

I should go again. London closed and euro markets are insane again. Adam was talking about moving to California for a while there. With the US dollar the way it is: what is he thinking?

P.S. I repeat: no Oil! Gold, baby, Gold!!

So hot... Sooooo... very very hot.

Adam has not invested in air conditioning, and I think he said something about it being due to the electricity in our place. *sigh* Anyway it is hot enough that I've had to resort to using the laptop. That actually works out better: the keyboard is smaller and fits my tiny hands better anyway (I'm a hunt-and-peck typer. Most of the other cats I know don't even type.)

(Actually wait: they don't even know what "type" means either. So scratch that comparison.)

Anwyay the only issue there is that all my contacts are not on the sleek little laptop, they're on the big, hot-running main pc. But it's so hot that I don't want to go to all the trouble of starting up the pc, the monitor, etc. Plus climbing up on the desk and all that that involves. Just too much effort.

The bathroom is the coolest room in the whole apartment but there's no power in there. Nor is there a desk. Catch-22, as Adam might say. (I don't know what that means but he says it a lot, usually about dinner planning. Maybe it's about food... ? I like food! Catch-22! Catch-22!)

The poor Euro is still battling away but I've moved on to commodities instead. I'd have to say that it's the best choice at the moment, really (with the exception of oil. Stay away from oil. Nasty stuff. They call it light and sweet but it is not either of those things. I personally stick with grain. I like grain!)

Beyond that I noticed my spam has gone way down. At last. Adam recommended that I get a gmail account and, well, I did it. And man: life is good! No spam! To avoid further spam I have to be crafty about how I list it here. So here goes.

(Have to be all sneaky these days, don't I? I wish it was because there were international spies looking for my email. Unfortunately it's just crappy spammers. Gr.)

But that's it. Please note that I cannot read or respond to Japanese email on the laptop. (Besides even if I could, that monitor is way too small.) I'm off to the spa this weekend so I'll be off email for a while. But you can certainly try. :)

I hope it is nowhere near as hot wherever you are reading this. And I wish I could be there. Possibly with a cold drink. Mmmmm... cold...

Off I go!
