RANKS

Back in the main hall there are a number of assassins milling about.  Some of them have purple sashes, others are just wearing plain black.  An eager young assassin runs up to you.  "Quick, hurry!  Don't you know?  They're naming the ranks and promotions!"

Student:
Possibly not even here to become an assassin.  Students sometimes come just for the excellent education we offer.  Usually young and keen.

0 - 25 dollars.

Tea-boy:

Passed the exams so is doing well, but starts out making tea and coffee e.t.c. for the more established members of the guild.  The tea-boys regard this as a useful period as they can learn from the senior members.  They are liked by all.

26 - 45 dollars.

Trainee:

Has done enough to warrant actually training as an assassin.  Trainees are never given the important jobs but learn by reading reports and sometimes, running the less important 'errands'.

46 - 65 dollars.

Prefect:

Has just completed their training and is now able to try their hand at the more significant jobs.  However they still have a lot to learn so things like an assassination attempt on the Patrician are still too advanced.

66 - 85 dollars.

New assassin:

Is now a proper assassin and can do whatever he or she wishes to take on.  Although they can still learn from senior members of the guild they now have the right to pass on knowledge to those who are lower in the ranks.

86 - 105 dollars.

Full assassin:

At this stage they begin to leave the common ranks and move towards superiority.  They now can go on and train to be highly specialised in ceratin areas, such as knife-throwing.

106 - 125 dollars.

Senior Assassin:

The first ones to be chosen for tasks which require certain skills.  Senior assassins are only too happy to help newer members and have vast experience.

126 - 155 dollars.

Armoury Overseer:

In charge of sets of weapons.  A very important job which requires a lot of responsibility as it involves the tools of the trade, as it were.

156 - 185 dollars.

Advanced Assassin:

They command respect throughout the guild and are amongst the most skilled and valued members.  They have millimetre-perfect aim and, on missions, are as quiet as a particularly pious churchmouse with fluffy slippers on.

186 - 205 dollars.

Master Assassin:

The highest attainable rank, and also the greatest assassins on the entire disc.  Easily recognisable by their purple sash, they could stand right in front of a man and slit his throat without him noticing.

206 dollars + .
