December, 1998

December is a wonderful month with all the preparations for Christmas and then the holiday itself. I think Advent is my favorite season of the year. If we celebrate Advent by having an Advent Wreath and a family prayer time each night, it helps us to focus on the real reason for Christmas. That is, the fact that it is the birthday of our Lord Jesus. All the decorations and trimmings, music and Santa Claus are wonderful, but they are not what it is all about. Christmas would still come without all of that. But without Jesus, there would be no Christmas at all.
We need to work to remember that "Jesus is the reason for the season." He is what it is all about. We are waiting for his coming; a reenactment of his birth and also for his second coming into the world. Let's do all we can to prepare for this.
Be an example in the world. Have you been practicing being "a light shining in the darkness". Show everyone by what you do and how you act that Jesus is an important part of your life and that he is your example. Don't forget to "Collect Smiles." You might change someone's whole day.
I hope to see on this next Sunday. Have a wonderful week. Remember: Jesus loves you and so do I. (share a smile!)
Love,
Elaine
