March, 1998
Each month all year we have taken one special word to learn about. For the month of March, our word is "Love". There are several different meanings of the word love. One is from the Greek word "eros", which is romantic love, the way your parents love each other. Another is from the Greek word "philadelphia", which is brotherly love, the way you love your friends. The third is from the Greek word "agape", the way that God loves us. It is an all encompassing love. It is everlasting with absolutely no conditions to it. There is nothing we can do to make God love us more, and there is nothing we can do to make God love us any less. His love is always there, perfect and complete; all we need to do is accept it.
This is now the season of Lent. We are going to be studying parables through Lent. Parables are stories that have a much deeper meaner than what they seem on the surface. We are going to have to really listen and think about them to try and gather the meaning of what Jesus was trying to tell us in his parables.
During Lent, we need to think about Jesus and how his love includes everyone. We need to try and be as much like him as we can. Making a sacrifice during Lent helps us to remember the sacrifice he made for us: giving up his life to save us from our sins. There isn't a greater sacrifice than that. For my sacrifice during Lent, I like to give up some of my free time to study the Bible and maybe read a special book about Jesus' life. You can "give up" whatever you think, but I hope it will be something important to you so you will feel that it is a sacrifice.
I will be looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Have a wonderful week. Remember: Jesus loves you and so do I.
Love,
Elaine
