April, 1998
Each month all year we have taken one special word to learn about. For the month of April we have two words to compare to each other: "Joy" and "Happy". The reason I chose these two words is because often people think they mean the same thing, but really they don't.
Being happy is a feeling that depends on your reactions to other people or other things and situations. If you get an A on a test, you will feel happy. If you get a new toy, you will feel happy. But if the next day in school you fail a quiz, or the new toy breaks, the happy feeling is gone. Happy is temporary. Being happy, puts you at the center of things. Good as it is, it only lasts for a short while.
Joy is a way of life. It comes from living your life with God at the center. It is a permanent thing that depends on faith and trust in Jesus. It is a feeling of peace and security that comes from knowing that God is in control and that he is always there to help you and protect you. He will never let you down. Joy is a wonderful feeling of being loved and being at peace, that is with you all the time.
To acquire Joy you need to:
1. Accept Jesus into your life, acknowledging that he died for your sins and is your own personal Saviour.
2. Give your life to God, and let him handle things.
3. Trust God to take care of you and your problems. (Don't worry)
4. Be thankful to God, be loving and forgiving to others. Live your life as you know Jesus wants you to.
When you do all these things you acquire the Joy of the Lord, and it is a wonderful feeling. And it lasts too.
April 5, 1998 is Palm Sunday. It is the anniversary of the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem in triumph. It is also the beginning of Holy Week. There are several special services at church to celebrate this week. On Thursday, April 9, 1998, there will be a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, April 10, 1998, which is Good Friday, there will be a service of the Stations of the Cross, at 7:00 p.m. And then on Sunday it is Easter Sunday!! The day that Jesus rose from the dead! A JOYOUS day indeed. I hope to see you at some or all of these services.
I hope your Spring Break was special. I will be looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Have a wonderful week. Remember: Jesus loves you and so do I.
Love,
Elaine
