Take This Job And Shove It, 1981, Robert Hays, Art Carney, Barbara Hershey, Martin Mull, Eddie Albert
All about the working man and beer.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
The Talented Mr. Ripley, 1999, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman
Wacked-out thriller is nicely filmed, but too long and very low on the manliness scale.
2˝ stars out of 5
____
Tango And Cash, 1989, Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Jack Palance
When was the last time either of the top two stars were in something good?
2 stars out of 5
____
Tank, 1984, James Garner, C. Thomas Howell, Shirley Jones, G. D. Spradlin
80s idiocy.
2 stars out of 5
____
Taps, 1981, George C. Scott, Timothy Hutton, Ronny Cox, Tom Cruise
Fun to watch but unbelievable.
3 stars out of 5
____
Tarzan The Ape Man, 1981, Bo Derek, Richard Harris, Miles O'Keefe
Snore.
1 star out of 5
____
Taxi Driver, 1976, Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel, Cybill Shepherd, Jodie Foster, Peter Boyle
Freaky and ultimately depressing movie that is worth watching only for DeNiro's great performance.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
Teen Wolf, 1985, Michael J. Fox, James Hampton, Scott Paulin
More 80s foolishness.
2 stars out of 5
>>>>
Teen Wolf, Too, 1987, Jason Bateman, Kim Darby, John Astin, James Hampton
Was there really a lot of demand for a sequel?
1 star out of 5
____
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 1990, Judith Hoag, Elias Koteas
I can't tell you how wonderful it is now that these little turds are no longer popular.
2 stars out of 5
____
The Temp, 1993, Lara Flynn Boyle, Timothy Hutton, Dwight Schultz, Faye Dunaway, Oliver Platt
Whatever you are thinking about this, you are probably right.
2 stars out of 5
____
10, 1979, Dudley Moore, Bo Derek, Julie Andrews, Robert Webber
Extremely funny when it isn't a bore, this was probably the last hurrah for Bo Derek, if not the only hurrah.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
The Terminator, 1984, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn
A masterful sci-fi action film which surpasses the much hyped sequel
4˝ stars out of 5
>>>>
The Terminator 2: Judgement Day, 1991, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick, Edward Furlong
Definitely a great one in every way, but it lacks the campy feel of the first one.
4 stars out of 5
____
Terror In The Aisles, 1984, Donald Pleasence, Nancy Allen
Snippets of all the great horror movies wrapped up into one surprisingly suspenseful horror narration.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974, Marilyn Burns, Gunnar Hansen, Edwin Neal
I guess this was something cool in its time, but nowadays it is fairly tame.
2˝ stars out of 5
>>>>
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, 1986, Dennis Hopper, Caroline Williams
Dumb stuff.
1˝ stars out of 5
____
There's Something About Mary, 1998, Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Chris Elliot, Lee Evans
This is not what I'd call a subtle comedy. Extremely crude and you can see Cameron Diaz's boobs through her T-shirt. It's practically an A+ for those two things alone.
4 stars out of 5
_____
They Live, 1988, Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster
Thankfully, this one never takes itself too seriously.
2 stars out of 5
____
The Thief, 1981, James Caan, Tuesday Weld, James Belushi, Willie Nelson
Made more interesting by Michael Mann's excellent knack for mood setting.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Thin Red Line, 1998, Adrien Brody, Ben Chaplin, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Elias Koteas
Neither as good nor as violent as Saving Private Ryan, but a solid film nonetheless. Unlike any war film you're likely to see and too artsy-fartsy at times.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Thing, 1982, Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, Richard Dysart
An amazing and timeless space alien horror movie.
4˝ stars out of 5
____
The 13th Warrior, 1999, Omar Sharif, Sven Wollter, Dennis Storhoi, Maria Bonnevie, Diana Venora
So-so tale of blood, guts, and supposed monsters doesn't match up as well as the book, but the decent casting helps. And considering how incomplete a tale the book was, everything is rapped up here into a watchable movie.
3 stars out of 5
____
This Is Spinal Tap, 1984, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Rob Reiner
A classic for all times. This is what rockumentaries should be about.
4˝ stars out of 5
____
Three Kings, 1999, George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube, Spike Jonze, Cliff Curtis, Nora Dunn
Much-hyped caper film would be better if it didn't try to shove politics in the audience's face.
3 stars out of 5
____
The Thomas Crown Affair, 1999, Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo, Denis Leary, Faye Dunaway
A real disappointment except for Rene Russo's boobs, which look about 30 years younger than her.
3 stars out of 5
____
The Three Amigos, 1986, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short
Dumb, dumb, dumb. But still kind of funny.
2 stars out of 5
____
Three Men And A Baby, 1987, Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, Ted Danson, Nancy Travis
Wuss film is good for a few laughs.
3 stars out of 5
>>>>
Three Men And A Little Lady, 1990, Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, Ted Danson, Nancy Travis
Unwanted sequel.
2 stars out of 5
____
Three Men And A Cradle, 1985, a bunch of French commies
This is the one Three Men And A Baby was based on. Although it is French, it is better.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
Time Bandits, 1981, Sean Connery, Shelley Duvall, John Cleese
This fantasy film has everything but naked women. Definitely fun, as most Terry Gilliam films tend to be.
4 stars out of 5
____
Titanic, 1997, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, David Warner, Frances Fisher, Bill Paxton
It was so packed in the theater that I had to sit in the second row, stare straight up for more than 3 hours, and feel my seat shake every time a really loud scene would occur. Then for the last 25 minutes I had to listen to someone sobbing uncontrollably somewhere behind me in the theater. But hey, it cost $200 million to make and you get to see Kate Winslet naked. Enough action for the guys, romance for the ladies, and great special effects for those numb to plotlines.
4˝ stars out of 5
____
To Be Or Not To Be, 1983, Mel Brooks, Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, Tim Matheson
Average Mel Brooks.
2˝ stars out of 5
____
To Die For, 1995, Nicole Kidman, Matt Dillon, Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck
This over-hyped black comedy is fun, but not the heir apparent to Pulp Fiction that moronic critics were implying when it first came out.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
To Kill A Mockingbird, 1962, Gregory Peck, Mary Badham
Faithful adaptation to a most excellent book.
5 stars out of 5
____
To Live And Die In L.A., 1985, William L. Petersen, Willem Dafoe, John Pankow, Dean Stockwell
Overdone, overacted, and generally stupid.
1 stars out of 5
____
Tombstone, 1993, Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Michael Biehn, Sam Elliott, Powers Boothe
Val Kilmer is the only standout in this shoot-em-up. Melodramatic acting make this one a laugher.
1 star out of 5
____
Tommy Boy, 1995, Chris Farley, David Spade, Bo Derek, Brian Dennehy, Rob Lowe
Not great but definitely funny and worth the price of a rental.
3 stars out of 5
____
Too Young To Die, 1994, Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, Michael Tucker, Michael O'Keefe
Given the talent involved, this one is a real letdown.
2 stars out of 5
____
Tootsie, 1982, Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman
Funny stuff, but perhaps a bit too 80s.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
Top Gun, 1986, Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt
Sorry, but this movie always was a nosedive in my book.
2 stars out of 5
____
Top Secret, 1984, Val Kilmer, Omar Sharif, Peter Cushing
Crazy hijinx galore in WWII. Fun.
3 stars out of 5
____
Tora! Tora! Tora!, 1970, Martin Balsam, Sô Yamamura, Joseph Cotton, Tatsuya Mihashi, E.G. Marshall
This classic recounts all the events leading of to the attack on Pearl Harbor in pseudo-documentary style. Very well done and the attack still looks realistic by today's standards.
4˝ stars out of 5
____
Total Recall, 1990, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside, Ronny Cox
Surefire Schwarzenegger fun goes to Mars.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Towering Inferno, 1974, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden, Faye Dunaway
One of the better 70s disaster flicks. A definite must for fans of the genre.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Toxic Avenger, 1985, Mitchell Cohen
The world's raunchiest superhero movie.
3˝ stars out of 5
>>>>
The Toxic Avenger Part II, 1989, Ron Fazio, Lisa Gaye
Not quite as masterful as the first one but still a hoot.
3 stars out of 5
____
The Toy, 1982, Richard Pryor, Jackie Gleason, Scott Schwartz, Ned Beatty
Another subpar Richard Pryor movie. Plus it's PG.
2 stars out of 5
____
Toy Soldiers, 1991, Sean Astin, Will Wheaton, Keith Coogan, Lou Gossett Jr.
Ridiculous premise makes for a surprisingly entertaining movie for some odd reason.
3 stars out of 5
____
Toy Story, 1995, animated
Disney takes on a new kind of animation and succeeds with flying colors. Fun for all.
5 stars out of 5
____
Toys, 1992, Robin Williams, Michael Gambon, Joan Cusack, Robin Wright
Not Williams' best by any means.
2 stars out of 5
____
Trading Places, 1983, Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, Jamie Lee Curtis
A must for Murphy fans and non-fans.
4 stars out of 5
____
Traffic, 2000, Michael Douglas, Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, Dennis Quaid, Catherine Zeta-Jones
Excellent look at the drug war and the massive holes encountered while fighting it. The family subplot in this is something to be desired, but that's the only bad thing in an otherwise accurate portrayal.
4 stars out of 5
____
Trainspotting, 1996, Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd
Knocked for supposedly glamourizing heroin usage, this movie does anything but. A completely depressing and riveting look at the dark side of drugs.
4 stars out of 5
____
Tron, 1982, Jeff Bridges, David Warner, Bruce Boxleitner, Cindy Morgan
Still fun to watch.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
Tropic Of Cancer, 1970, Rip Torn, James Callahan, Ellen Burstyn
Poorly dubbed and almost as poorly acted given the reputation of the cast. Even Ellen Burstyn naked doesn't do much for this stinker.
1 star out of 5
____
True Lies, 1994, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton
Arguably the most well received Arnold endeavor, this is not nearly his best.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
True Romance, 1993, Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman
A truly bizarre outing for Slater and cast. Gary Oldman is a blast in his minor role.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Truman Show, 1998, Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney
Although more serious than most Jim Carrey flicks, the role is still pretty unchallenging. Apart from that, there is an inventive script and a good overall result.
4 stars out of 5
____
Truth Or Dare, 1991, Madonna, Warren Beatty, Sandra Bernhard, Kevin Costner
If you never liked Madonna, this won't change your mind.
1 star out of 5
____
12 Monkeys, 1996, Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, Madeleine Stowe
Yet another cool and whacked out film from Terry Gilliam.
4 stars out of 5
____
Twenty-One, 1990, Patsy Kensit, Jack Shepherd, Patrick Ryecart
Sometimes funny but mostly boring because it doesn't show Patsy Kensit naked nearly as much as it should.
3 stars out of 5
____
Twins, 1988, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb
One of the best Arnold comedy adventures.
4 stars out of 5
____
Two Of A Kind, 1983, John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Charles Durning
Nothing new here.
2 stars out of 5
____
____
U-571, 2000, Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel, Jon Bon Jovi, Jake Weber, David Keith
Good action and special effects cover a few minor plot flaws. It is also relatively free of profanity (not that I care), which makes it watchable for the kiddies.
4 stars out of 5
____
U Turn, 1997, Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte, Powers Boothe, Claire Danes, Billy Bob Thornton
Oliver Stone's annoying style of communist direction is minimized in this freakshow of a film, but the results are still just a bit above average.
3 stars out of 5
____
The Ultimate Warrior, 1975, Yul Brynner, Max von Sydow, Joanna Miles
Mostly just another post-apocalyptic yawner.
2 stars out of 5
____
Unbreakable, 2000, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Robin Wright
One can sense that so much effort went into this only to get such a hokey result. Worth watching, but don't be surprised if you end up concluding that it was a letdown.
3 stars out of 5
____
Uncle Buck, 1989, John Candy, Amy Madigan, Jean Kelly
John Candy was actually still making decent movies this late into his career.
3 stars out of 5
____
Under Siege, 1992, Steven Seagal, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, Erika Eleniak, Nick Mancuso
Quite possibly Seagal's best. Jones is quite the bad guy. So what if Erika Eleniak is laughable with a machine gun: at least she looks good.
4 stars out of 5
>>>>
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, 1995, Steven Seagal, Eric Bogosian, Katherine Heigl, Morris Chestnut
Formidable sequel doesn't disappoint.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
Under The Rainbow, 1981, Chevy Chase, Carrie Fisher, Eve Arden
If you like to laugh at the misfortune of midgets, this is a film for you.
3 stars out of 5
____
Unfaithfully Yours, 1984, Dudley Moore, Nastassja Kinski, Armand Assante, Albert Brooks
I don't remember much about this and it has Nastassja Kinski in it so it can't be all that great.
2˝ stars out of 5
____
The Unforgiven, 1992, Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris
Not exactly a conventional western, but great nonetheless, especially when Clint goes ballistic in the end.
4 stars out of 5
____
Unlawful Entry, 1992, Kurt Russell, Ray Liotta, Madeleine Stowe
Contrived, but having Madeleine Stowe naked gives it a boost.
3 stars out of 5
____
The Untouchables, 1987, Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert DeNiro, Andy Garcia
Complete blast in every way.
5 stars out of 5
____
Up In Smoke, 1978, Cheech & Chong, Stacy Keach, Tom Skerritt, Strother Martin
You don't have to be as high as Cheech or Chong to enjoy this one.
3˝ starss out of 5
____
Used Cars, 1980, Kurt Russell, Jack Warden, Frank McRae
A lot of good jokes are offset by the cheezy 70s ending, but still a classic.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
____
Vampires, 1998, James Woods, Daniel Baldwin, Sheryl Lee, Thomas Ian Griffith, Maximilian Schell
Full of cliches a well as bad dialogue, it somehow manages to come across as a fun movie. Must be all the disembowelings and beheadings and other cool stuff.
3 stars out of 5
____
The Vanishing, 1993, Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland, Nancy Travis, Sandra Bullock
Fairly cool film about a guy whose chick vanishes.
4 stars out of 5
____
Varsity Blues, 1999, James Van Der Beek, Jon Voight, Amy Smart, Ron Lester, Paul Walker
Incredible as it may sound, this is a good movie. It has laughs, it has a bit of drama, it has some of the best filmed football sequences you're likely to see, and it has boobs.
4 stars out of 5
____
Velvet Goldmine, 1998, Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Toni Collette, Christian Bale
Manly men definitely like pretty women and rocking music, but generally don't take too well to watching some sexually confused young man take one up ye ole poopchute. This flick has the first two, but also the third. The result is a film that is only somewhat enjoyable.
2 stars out of 5
____
Venom, 1982, Nicol Williamson, Susan George, Klaus Kinski
Poisonous snake goes ballistic.
1˝ stars out of 5
____
Very Bad Things, 1998, Christian Slater, Cameron Diaz, Jon Favreau, Jeremy Piven, Daniel Stern
This one alternates between contrived and hilarious. Since it ends in hilarious fashion, it gets a good review.
4 stars out of 5
____
Vice Versa, 1988, Judge Reinhold, Fred Savage, Swoosie Kurtz
Formulaic but enjoyable comedy.
3 stars out of 5
____
Victory, 1981, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Pelé, Max von Sydow
Ludicrous plot is helped by good pacing.
3 stars out of 5
____
Virus, 1998, Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Sutherland, William Baldwin
Part Alien, part Leviathan, and part Runaway makes for a movie that is totally stupid.
1˝ stars out of 5

Being a former wrestler, I am particularly endeared to this Rocky-esque story.

Mostly lame.
2 stars out of 5

Extremely smart and biting comedy that never lets up.
4˝ stars out of 5
____
Wall Street, 1987, Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas, Michael Sheen, Daryl Hannah
Hard to like because it is directed by the notorious Oliver Stone, this is still a captivating look into the so-called "decade of greed".
4 stars out of 5

Tough guy Rutger Hauer hunts down Gene Simmons for an ending that will make all real men cheer.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
The War Of The Roses, 1989, Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito

4 stars out of 5
____
Wargames, 1983, Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, Ally Sheedy
The original Computers-Will-Run-The-World type of film. This time, a computer sort of sets off a nuclear war with the commies.
4 stars out of 5

Dated but cool look at gangs in futuristic NYC.
3˝ stars out of 5

A financial disaster, this one still manages to keep your interest.
3˝ stars out of 5

Sometimes funny but mostly dumb. Obviously not good enough to where I wanted to watch the sequel.
2 stars out of 5
____

Easily better than most of Sandler's previous efforts, and with a good soundtrack to boot.
3˝ stars out of 5
____
Weekend At Bernie's, 1989, Andrew McCarthy, Jonathon Silverman, Catherine Mary Stewart, Terry Kiser
Any movie about trying to make a dead guy appear alive has to have some potential.
3 stars out of 5

Weekend At Bernie's II, 1993, Andrew McCarthy, Jonathon Silverman, Terry Kiser, Barry Bostwick
Ye gods! Four years after the original, this one isn't quite as funny.

Funny for about the first 20 minutes, then downhill from there.

____
Who Framed Roger Rabbit, 1988, Bob Hoskins, CHristopher Lloyd, Joanna Cassidy
Sight gags and jokes galore make this one a truly great entry into the animated genre.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Whole Nine Yards, 1999, Matthew Perry, Bruce Willis, Rosanna Arquette, Michael Clark Duncan, Amanda Peet
I had to throw Amanda Peet in there instead of Natasha Henstridge and Kevin Pollak because she's just so darn cute and shows her boobs in this otherwise lame comedy.
2 stars out of 5

Hard to watch but well worth it.
4 stars out of 5
____
The Wild Bunch, 1969, William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Warren Oates
Classic western in modern blood n guts format. This movie had people literally running out of the theater and vomiting during advance showings in 1969. Nobody had ever seen so much blood. It's pretty tame by today's standards, but it'll make you want to drink beer, fart, and strap on those cowboy guns you had when you were a kid.
4˝ stars out of 5

Terrible sex-filled melodrama.

Mediocre.
2˝ stars out of 5
____
The Woman In Red, 1984, Gene Wilder, Charles Grodin, Kelly LeBrock, Gilda Radner

____
____
The X-Files, 1998, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Martin Landau, William B. Davis, Mitch Pileggi
Truly great action and effects coupled with a coherent plot for fans and non-fans of the TV show. Just enough is revealed for those who have been teased by the show for years, and just enough remains murky to keep the show continuing for a few more years.
4˝ stars out of 5
