Former Starfleet officer Mackenzie Calhoun, hero of the Xenex rebellion, is assigned to captain the starship Excalibur on its mission to patrol the disintegrating Thallonion empire. |

The Dominion War consumes the attention of Starfleet, relegating Thallonian space to backwater status, and Mackenzie is outraged when his request to join the fray is denied. |
