Resources

I will treat as resources anything you can accumulate and use for something useful.

GOLD
The golden coins are used to upgrade your structures, or to level up your heroes up to their maximum level (and then they require crystals to upgrade to higher possible levels). What can I say? Gold works well in early game. Gold mine will produce more gold than what you spent to upgrade it in early game. These gold production structures (there are four: Castle, Market, Gold Mine and Palace) are NOT important after some time. You will still need gold (to do permanent upgrades) but you will get it from the fights you win. As you begin, upgrade gold mine as it pays, and use it to upgrade anything you can. As the waiting time becomes high, forget about these.

CRYSTALS
Blue diamond-like things. Crystals are what this game is about. Your main goal is to upgrade heroes to have a powerful squad, and to do that, you will need to upgrade your crystal mine. There are also other ways to improve your crystal incoming, and you should use all of them. These include daily quests, clan chest, Arena (making it top 100 should require minimum effort, while making it top 1000 probably requires a single fight), buying from the trader using gold or event coins, attacking castles in main raid, and getting them from some events. Crystals may be traded for almost anything in game using the traders, but usually its not a good idea.

STARS
Purple shuriken like things. These are the 2nd most important resources. You will use them to lots of things, like leveling up heroes, opening artifacts, and leveling up artifacts. You will need more stars than crystals, but you will produce more stars, too. Beyond Arena (not the tab, the building in your kingdom), daily quests are a very important source of stars. When you start, they can produce 4k stars each day, as you reach 4K, 6K, 8K and 10K medals. After you collect all Commander and King cards, these are replaced for 1k stars, too, so daily quests will generate 6k stars per 10K medals (you can produce in some minutes), AND, with blazons, these can be increased to 18k.

GREEN / YELLOW / RED GEMS
Green gems are triangles, yellow gems are squares, and red gems are losangles. What are they used for? To upgrade the artifacts your heroes equip. Innitially, it does not seem important, but soon these equipments may be very useful to your heroes. Each artifact may give up to +40% to a hero stat, and this is for each artifact level. Yellow gems can be used to turn green (level 1) artifacts to level 2. Red gems turn yellow (level 2) artifacts to level 3. Green gems make an artifact to become another artifact. Reforging artifacts using green gems is usually not required, UNTIL you are very powerful already. At late game, it becomes interesting trying to create what is called "perfect artifact" by some players. These are artifacts that increase your hero skill the maximum (+40% per level) and still give a HP bonus of 12% per level. These are very rare, however. I have seen someone saying that over 100 tries gave him just one perfect artifact. I have two myself. So, think about green gems as a reserve for the long run. Yellow and red you will need earlier, but not that many. Anyway, in the beginning, trading green gems for yellow or red with the trader can be something to consider.

PORTALS
Triangle blue things. These are used to skip fights you have previously won. Just suppose you made it to fight 68 of any event. As the event refreshes, you are back to fight 1. You can play the event again as normal, but you don't have to. If you use a portal, you are teleported to fight 11, AND you get the rewards you would get by fighting and winning (this does not "call" the trader, however). If you use another portal, you are teleported to fight 21. You can use portals up to six times, and if you do you reach fight 61, then from there you really need to fight if you want advance. My opinion: usually, using portals is not necessary. Remember: portals are also important to play Total War event, so remember to accumulate some.

ARENA PASSES
A scroll with two crossed swords. These are used to start each fight in the weekly Arena PvP event. As you use them they are regenerated by time (20 minutes each arena pass) up to 5. Or, you can accumulate them (the ones you receive from the merchant or buy at event shops), because they are also important in the Total War event. If you like to play at Arena, you have the option to accumulate some crystals instead, to use if a Total War suddenly comes (at least 5k crystals, I would say).

EVENT COINS
Yellow coins with red center. You will receive these winning fights in events like Cave and Fog. These can be traded for all sorts of other resources in the event shops. Some time ago, these didn't have a really important use, so I used them to buy crystals, for example. But now, this have changed. There are cards you can buy just using event coins. There is the Fog trap, and all these heroes: Druid, Thunder Catcher, Sorcerer and all Titans (Dazzling, Treebeard, Dendroid and Minotaur - looking at the runes being sold, we already know there is another Titan, the Iron Giant, to be released). What to buy? He has the chance to be nerfed in the future, but for now I would say Thunder Catcher. He's very useful, helps a lot at Cave event and other events like it, makes most fights faster, and is a must have for Arena, if you intend to try it. Also, his cards cost 9K event coins, most other heroes cost 13.5K. Titans are also interesting, but there is a limit of two you can have in your squad. King is already very good, easy to get cards, and a hero most old player have upgraded already (he was a normal hero, but he was transformed into a Titan when the others were about to see the light). I still didn't see other Titans being really used against me (I don't really play the Arena), and I guess top players are still collecting their cards. I started to collect Treebeard cards, he looks great. When I have a better opinion about the Titans, I will let you know. IMPORTANT: your amount of event coins is not visible for you to check unless there is an event that uses them being played, BUT, you keep them anyway. You DONT need to spend your coins in something you dont need when the event is about to end, because when next event comes, your coins will be there, they arent wasted.

HERO / TRAP CARDS
Cards that allow you to use and level up your heroes (and traps). To be able to put a hero in your squad, you need 5 cards. The hero may have his stats leveled up to level 10. When you have 15 cards, you can level up the hero to rank 1, so their stats may be leveled up to level 20. For next hero rank (2), you will need 35 cards, and his stats will have level 30 as their top. This goes up to hero rank 5, which you will need 155 cards, and may upgrade his stats up to level 60. As you probably realized, you need collect these cards to have a strong squad. A few heroes have cards being produced by structures in your kingdom, but most of them you need to win event battles to get (including many useful heroes). Traps follow the same card logic, but are much less relevant to the game.

BLAZONS
Flags that you can buy in the shop using real money and give benefits like increased battle speed and increased production of crystals, stars and gems from your buildings. There are 3 types: Blazon of the Leader (yellow), Blazon of the Commander (blue) and Blazon of the King (red). You may also get some of these from the trader / event shops, maybe from free chests, or trading for crystals or event coins. The yellow is really not that useful, and I don't really care about. In fact I'm using some in Satyrs / Dazzling events (the ones with battles that automatically move to next one). This because killing enemies there rewards event coins, so I'm thinking about the increased battle speed. The blue and red blazons, however, double most event prizes, and this includes event coins and cards awarded for beating enemies (except for Ogres at Total War), yeah! About blue and red: previously, when Cave event used to give you more event coins each win, and I didn't see a reason to really accumulate them (the amount I was getting was enough for what I was buying), I used to buy red blazons and use one every week with the Cave event. This is what I suggest you to do with red blazons you get for free, but I wouldn't buy them anymore. Now I use blue blazons. Look: using a well timed blue blazon will allow me to get double coins through events of two days, AND, increase my castle buildings production (crystals / stars / gems) by 100%. For a week I would use 3 blazons which cost 74250 event coins, or, if I decide to use four, it costs 99K event coins. I can also decide not to use a blazon for days I would have little time to play. If I use a red blazon, it lasts for seven days, but increase my production 50%, and costs 120k event coins. So, blue blazons is now my way to go. NOTE: yellow and blue blazons last for 24 hours, but the time to refresh daily quests is 20 hours, so, if you use them correcty you can get increase daily quests rewards for 3 "days". Activate the blazon when daily quests have one hour left, for example (even if you have collected the rewards, you can receive your additional bonus), then you have another "day" of 20 hours to get the bonus, and when it ends, you have 3 hours to get your bonus for the last time. Yellow blazon multiplies rewards x2, and blue blazon multiplies x3.
