The main raid is always there. The goal is to defeat the Dark Lord at battle 400. This should take some time. Main raid influences the cost and gains you can have in gold. The higher the fight you are, higher are trader gold prices (crystal prices aren�t affected). Also, there is the shop. Free chest there (�Daily Pack�) will give you more gold, the higher you are in main raid. Also, the coins you can trade crystals for are higher. In fact, it�s smart to check, after advancing in main raid the most you can, if the gold amount you get for 100-200 crystals isn�t enough to upgrade some buildings at your castle.

Main raid will also have castles of other player for you to attack, one each area (group of 10 fights against AI). You always should attack these castles to get the bonuses. Your possible gains are: gold (same amount you would get for beating next fight), 10 crystals, 10 stars, 5 green gems, 5 yellow gems, 5 red gems and 10 medals. You can spend 10 crystals to get another opponent if the current one is too hard for you to beat. This way you spend the crystals but can get other items at least. NOTE: the castle appears after the 2nd fight of each area, but you can attack it any time, even if you didn�t beat 1st and 2nd fights of the area.

You can always reset the main raid, clicking at new raid button and confirming (tip: if you will do it, beat fight 10 at least, so you get prizes for beating 2 castles, one for fight 10-20 area, and another one after the restart). You will receive an amount of stars that increase as you advance (top is 2k, in case you beat fight 400). This also resets your gold, your gold production structures (making them useless in the long run), and your heroes stats. Reseting heroes stats looks bad, but in fact it�s not. The maximum level their stats got can be reached without spending crystals again, just gold. And leveling up heroes stats again and again is the way to produce medals, which will 1) complete daily quests, 2) add to clan chest, and 3) complete medals related badges (in case you want them).

NOTE: unlike most events, main raid is not affected by your squad. The enemies in each fight and their stats are fixed, the single thing that changes is enemies position at the battlefield.

If you are curious about how the Dark Lord looks like, here is the answer. And, his skill is fireball, like Red Witcher. Dark Lord isn't specially strong, and, in fact, the real challenge is to beat fight 399, fight 400 is much easier.
